Cavan v Wexford

Keating facing a spell on the sidelines, hamstring injury. He was in great form. Such a shame, but maybe Givney can go into the ff line and Gearoid can slot into midfield.

It's a blow but remember that Cavan hockeyed Meath and Monaghan last year without Keating.

Bad news on Eugene, anyone know if Mackey is ok ? Would big Gearoid be fit for a full match at Midfield yet ? Im not sure of that but at least we have options there now. It could be worth throwing Givney in at FF, he is a good target man, gives a nice pass and is improving on the scoring front. He did well in that position against Meath last year. I am wary of this fixture in Wexford, they have alot more experience than us and are on their home patch. At least the Tyrone game shows that we are in the right division (for now) lest we have lofy ideas that Division 3 is beneath us. It will dispell any complacency that may have been creeping in among players and supporters...it HAS to be one game at a time and its going to be a slog.

A huge blow to be without Keating for this game and the next few games as the games as the games are coming thick and fast now. But up to the other lads to show why they are on the panel. Wexford have an injury crisis themseleves http://www.hoganstand.com/Wexford/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=210488

so your reckon the players will still be tired from this game come the ulster championship?

Eh ! NO. I reckon the more games you play in quick succession the more tired you are, and the more tired you are, the more you are susceptible you are to injury. Hope that is clear.

Bad news on Keating but no need to panic. We have options. This will throw up an opportunity for someone and I think Terry will make the necessary adjustments. Tierney can play there and could get us goals as we know. Givney is another option and I think it might be a good time to get some experience back in the team with Mark McKeever (if fully fit) a man to steady the ship. Would be great to see Gearoid start but only if he is ready - losing him again would feel like a bad breakup!!!

Of course Keating is a loss, a huge loss ! playing fierce well at the minute.
But look it he's one player, and if we're going to whinge about missing one player because of injury, then we seriously have no right to have lofty ambitions of getting out of Division 3.
A chance for some of the other boys to step up to the plate. Every team has injuries, all of the time.
Be very surprised if Givney doesn't go in around the square.
The only thing I'm worried about is that I always thought Wexford were fairly strong around the middle of the field. Of course having a strong midfield won't win you the game on its own, we can always by-pass that area of the field.
Headin down to Wexford anyway saturday afternoon, and I have to say I'm quietly confident from what I've seen in the first two games.
Onwards and upwards.

Keating has to be protected and if he mises 3 to 4 weeks so be it. I don't want a Michael Lyng scenario of 2006 when he was suffering from injury and was rushed back to play in the U21 Ulster final, lasted 10 minutes and suffered for years thereafter.

With the potential talent still available to the management they should still be able to select a side capable of getting the two points on Sunday. Certainly, I won't be using his loss as a source of comfort if the two points are not obtained.

Heading off with the family tomorrow to Wexford. Blows to the panel recently with the injuries but that's what the panel is there for. And reading the last few posts its great that we now have a panel and have a few options to try and replace the injuries. A big test away to Wexford but they have injuries as well. Its an opportunity for other guys to step up the plate and take their chance. Keep it going guys. The Future is Blue!!!!!

I would agree with all the previous posters that the other forwards have to step up to the plate. No place to hide now!!
But we do definately have some options and somebody mentioned Givneys fine display in Navan last year. He could be an option in there on Sunday even though a fully fired up and sharp Kevin Tierney I think would be a better option. Mackey and Lyng have to come back since the Offaly game and Mooney would be another big asset , maybe on the '40 as well.
Maybe an old head like McKeever could be crucial on Sunday. Someone to steady the young lads and give a bit of guidance.
I presume Argue, Givney and both the McKiernans will be in the running for Mid-field as well as Mooney perhaps.
Alan Clarke could return at centre back and Jason Mc played well in Armagh. So we do have lots of options. Just hope the lads play with confidence and take their chances. Looking forward to the trip to New Ross.
Cavan Abu!

I think Wexford are more hit with injuries than Cavan and they also have to deal with some high profile retirements. Good time for Cavan to play Wexford and i think they should win by 2 to 4 points.

Have to laugh at some of these posters. When a player cant make the cut in his natural position he all of a sudden becomes our best attacker .David is not a forward and never will be.Turlock only started playing with Cavan Seniors this year in Mc Kenna cup games ,and is a good prospect, but not a link man on the 40,or not a cert for a place just yet.He tends to go missing for spells in games.Keating may be playing yet.Theres no need for panic.Jason Mc had a poor match against Tyrone ,but it was only his first game back and was rusty, but will improve.Cavan have a panel of 40 so surely we will be able to get one out of that to fill in for Eugene if he is not fit to play.Tough game but one we can win if we get the workrate right .

I think David will play up front with Tierney because of the injuries I expect that G.McKiernan may well get the nod but is it too soon for if he injures himself so soon after his op we will not have him for the year is it worth the risk I am not sure?? Don't be surprised if T.Corr gets a run at some stage Sunday.
Its all down to whom Mr Hyland decides to start with and how they respond to the situation they will be handed for this match is a three pointer so the least from this match has to be a draw for a loss will be a major set back to our promotion hopes.
Promotion is all we should be looking for nothing else and if we get it then and only then should attention be diverted towards Ulster.

Mackey
Lyng
Reilly, Martin
Dunne
McDermott
Tierney

Assuming all the above are available they should make up the forward sector

Leave David where he belongs in the centre of the field with Turloch or Dec McKiernan

Mooney is still out is he not? Mark McKeever is another option at half forward. Tierney needs to up his game if he selected.

Jumping into the car now for my trip to Wexford.
My long lost friend from Carlow has reappeared and we're meeting up in Wexford town this evening.
See where a lot of teams are named already, but not Cavan ! Obviously a bit of doubt there !
Anyways hope I'm reporting tomorrow night on a hard fought win !
The one thing that gives me hope with this team, is their teamwork. Very evident in this Cavan team, and we didn't always see that in Cavan teams !
Keep the faith.

Looking forward to this trip. A win here would put us in the driving seat for promotion, as well as burying Wexford's hopes of going back up. I thought at the start of the year them and Roscommon would be our biggest challengers for promotion, and because Roscommon have already beaten Wexford, it is vital that we do so as well. We have a injury concerns, but that'll show us the worth of our panel. Anyone know if the u21 lads are available? I would have thought not?

The Tyrone game brought us right back down to earth, and taught us a few things, namely we need to improve our concentration and start burying teams when we have the upper hand. Hopefully we'll see some of that tomorrow!

An Cabhán Abú! BELIEVE.

I am really looking forward to this, heading down with a few of my work colleagues to the brandon house hotel, just outside new ross. We will be stopping off in Croker too on the way down for a feast of football! We originally scheduled to stop in Navan to see our championship rivals Armagh but the luxury of Croker and the geographical factors in relation to wexford, driving and enjoying the night won out!
I do believe the u21s are travelling, don't know how that is sitting with Peter Reilly but promotion is a must this year, its really just Kilian Clarke we need at the minute from the u21s as I heard a murmor that Rory Dunne is struggling with a knock?
Anyway, the ethos and mindset the team has developed the past couple of seasons should be enough for us to scrape a 2 point win and to make the journey home with sore heads Sunday worth our while!
