Cavan v Wexford

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

A more important game then the Mckenna Cup final, although it would have been nice to get silverware. It was good to see Jason McGlaugin make his first appearance of the year against Tyrone and Mark Mckeever coming off the bench, Mckeever still has a lot to offer for Cavan. Not sure if the u21's will be involved against Wexford as Cavan u21's are playing on the 12th. Wexford will be looking to bounce back after being well beaten by Ross in round 2, they are without Lee Chin this year, concentrating on Hurling. Redmond Barry and David Murphy have retired so they are not as strong as other years, Ciaran Lyng carrying an injury too. But they still have good talent without those players and will be a tough game.

When the fixtures first came out we probably would have considered this to be our toughest match, Wexford haven't been overly impressive so far but a win down there would be a massive step towards promotion. Cavan by 3

Without doubt this is the most important game to date in 2014, a win and promotion is then a stong probability. We should win but it won't be easy, no away game in the league is!

Never mind the McKenna cup, this is the one that matters. Good to see Jason Mcloughlin and gearoid get some game time and Mackey and Givney back. We can win this but it will be a tough test for us.

Hope Eugene Keating is ok he came of holding hamstring? in Tuam. Why did Joe Kiernan play so.many Tyrone & Cavan players after their game on Wednesday, no wonder they ran out of steam in the second half. Other players had two weeks rest. Well done Connaught & good luck Cavan next Sunday.

Kernan started Givney in the Railway Cup final last year, the day after playing in the Sigerson Final, and playing Semi on the friday. Not much care for player welfare.

The last thing we need is an injury to Keating who is in the form of his life lately!

Any truth to a Keating injury? That would be a disaster before Wexford. Hamstring, if gone, could keep him out for 4-6 weeks. If this is true by the way???!!!

He went off after 12 minutes, must be something.

I agree with you FoolsGold it must be something serious for a player to leave the field so early on.
And yes they played David Givney in the final after the Sigerson final the previous day. For anyone
that cares about player welfare it's worth reading Colm O'Rourke's article in last Sunday's Independent.
The GAA has a case to answer here and should be made to answer it. They're good at breaking their own rules
as he points out. If they want to be taken seriously as a sporting organisation it's time they stepped up to
the plate and did something about the injury situation. I think it may take a legal challenge to do it though
because nothing focuses minds like the prospect of having to pay up a load of money.

I would say he had his mind on next Sunday's game feeling a little tight and took nothing for granted.

This is a must win game for Cavan to really be in with a shout at the end of the league.
From here on it will be hard to pick up points as teams are now coming up to the mark and are starting to get fitter at this stage.
Best of luck to Mr Hyland and his team.

I hope your right sean but there should be no risks taken with him if he is injured...we can still win this game without him.. Mackey went off early as well so I wonder what the story is there. He looked very good in the Tyrone game so lets hope he makes it.. Playing either or both carrying an injury would be silly as we have enough quality in the squad to get us trough this game in my opinion...but it will be tough...!!

Makey has being working on his groin since Cavan Gaels did the job on him in the championship but with rest he will be fine.
Regarding inside information if I had any its not on this forum I would be posting it thats for sure.
I am not sure we can beat Wexford however without Keating for he is in serous form and as strong as an oxx and it will take two people to mark him. I hope they prove me wrong for this match is a three pointer on the head to head system.
Getting away from the match its great to see Roan Flannigan back training and the best of luck to him and a speedy recovery. Sean

Yeah great to see Ronan back. He had some brilliant last year for Cavan, hopefully he can get back to that level.
