Cavan v Armagh SFC

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Will everyone stop moaning about the team selection, and get behind the lads. They are all going to give it their best shot. ANyway, from reading posts here all the time, it seems that there's a whole lot of negativity out there, and there shouldn't be. Look at the minors of 2011 and the last 3 U-21 titles and the joy they brought to the county. Lets not invite bad karma, look what Armagh are doing, shouting about all the confidence they have going into the game, why can't we be the same, and say that we'll give them a good run for their money, instead of having whingers on dragging everyone dwon to their miserable level! Rant over! An Chabhan abu!

I think you guys are being very harsh on some of our players , Fergal Flanagan is obviously there to mark a kernan and is a good manmarker . Cant see Jack b playing . would like to see mossy playing . Ronan flannagan is one of our best player i think , been on the panel last 8 years and played for ulster the last 5 of them only he was inj for this year . So both flannagans obvious have played well in Cavan shirts . very harsh comments i think. we will see sunday . passing the ball is keeping precession of the ball . Jamie clarke is going to be hard watched also .

From reading the comments here its clear alot of people dont agree with Hylands selection for sunday, like most teams nowadays there will proabably be a few late changes made, which could change the mindset. As a very interested neutral looking on I think its a hard game to call,Cavan have named a very young team but as others have pointed out this isnt the first championship game for these players, while Armagh have a few players starting under the radar including an 18 year old at CHF. There is no doubting that Jamie Clarke has the abaility to win the game,so a lot will depend on Cavans ability to reduce his threat by cutting his supply, particularly by Aaron Kernan. It has the potential to be a good match as there isnt much past history between the players which might help it be an open game.

What kinda attendance ya reckon will be in Breffni sunday folks?
As a Fermanagh man looking on,it will be very interesting viewing and im sure whoever the victors are on sunday will be eyeing a semi final,be a tough game no matter who awaits us.

Said it all year about hyland, he is gonna march out there, chest out, watch the Armagh half back line destroy us, and when asked why we were bet in Breffni by 6/7 points by a poor Armagh team, he will start spouting about " a work in progress". Mark mc keever must be sick, if he retires from intercounty before the back door draw I wouldn't blame him.

Also, I think you g mc loughlin will do fine on Clarke, I would be more worried as to who will pick up Ciaran mc keever and Aaron Kiernan.

Am I missing something? Do we have 5-6 All Stars on the bench that nobody has told me about?

This is close enough to the team I predicted right at the start of this thread although Mossy and Gearoid have been injured since then. What team did people think would start?? This is as good a Cavan side as we have at the moment. McKeever not being included is a mild surprise given how regularly he played in the league but this will be a 20 man game, would people rather we bring on a fresh McKeever after 50 minutes or an U21 player? Is Mark McKeever really that much better than the wing forwards that are starting?

To whoever the lad above was that reckoned Jack Brady had a poor year and was over rated, I'm forced to ask if you have ever seen the lad play?? Jack Brady is arguably the best forward we have in Cavan at the moment. Did you see him against Cork? Did you see him in the closing stages of the Donegal game? Did you see him against Fermanagh Seniors last year? Exceptionally intelligent player who is capable of opening up defences and can play just as well inside if needs be. Nailing down a starting place on that DCU team for the past 2 years should give you an indication of his capabilities.

As for the goalkeeper selection, Gilsenan is more than capable, has better kick outs than Reilly and can come up and kick a long range free off the ground.

People seem to be extremely angry but few people are actually saying what changes they would make? Out from McKeever and possibly McCutcheon who else is a surprising absentee?

Quit moaning lads, not a bad team selection. Only change I would make is hayes for r Flanagan, rest would be positional which I'm sue will happen anyway. There are 2 types of experienced players on the panel - those with winning experience and those with an experience of loosing, I think by picking a young team terry has went for experience of winning.
On the goalie - do people forget the moaning on here about kick outs and bad goals conceded last year...?
Good luck Sunday lads.

Well everyone will have their own selections but would agree with a few guys that McKeever , (in particular) Mossy and McCutcheon are unlucky. Also Martin Reilly had a good League and is a bit unfortunate. But I suppose with a big panel a lot of lads will count themselves unlucky not to start. My own reading is that one or 2 of the above mentioned could still start. Mind games from Terry.
I suppose the type of game we need from Cavan on Sunday is a high tempo game with a lot of defensive work from our half forwards. Mgt obviously have worked out a system to beat Ard Macha and these are the players that they think will carry out their plans. I really hope we can hit our scoring forwards a little bit sooner and start taking our scores not like other years. Remember Gearoid will be missed for a few scores as well as his ball winning.
I really hope it works and I will be 100% behind Terry and the lads. Yes some people have reservations but that shouldent stop ye from supporting Cavan. Surely the u21 success will have to rub off and we can get a famous win. Still optimistic.

The clowns on here are really outdoing each other today. Do any of you ever stop and ask whether your posts might be having a negative effect on the players? I mean does any other county have such an idiotic reaction to a team being named? Here are some interesting facts...

- Cavan have played one challenge game versus Meath since the league. The other challenges have been games amongst themselves. Have any of you seen these games? I doubt it, so what makes you think you know who should or should not be playing.
- Some players are injured - McKeever, Corr and Dec McKiernan
- Some of these young players you have decided to slag off have more medals in there 3/4 years playing for Cavan than all these experienced players put together. For example Jack Brady has won 3 U21 championships and a Sigerson - apparently he is no addition.

In all seriousness I have never come across such a bunch of negative whinge bags in my life. I hope the lads do it in spite of you, it will be all the sweeter when none of ye come on here to post if we win, you will all vanish to await the next chance to have a moan.

hope cavan can win. doubt it. if f flanagan is on a kiernan, kiernan will have field day in my opinion. hayes should be on for r flanagan. also think the half forward line is a little light with both mackey and brady. no real power.

If mc keever is injured why is he on the bench? He is not injured in the slightest.

best of luck to Toastie and the boys on Sunday. should be a cracking game. remember it's a 20-man game nowadays and expect to see some of those absentees introduced at some stage. I think K. Clarke will play midfield. expect barry Reilly to be introduced too. Cavan by 1 or 2.

Best of luck to the lads on Sunday, they'll need all the support they can get when you read some of the comments coming from so called supporters on this forum. Hang your heads lads, witch hunting before a ball is kicked. Good to see plenty of posters with a more positive outlook. Cabhán Abú

Look at, in any sport, the best players, managers, coaches are the people able to withstand ANY criticism that is levelled at them. You thrive in sport by answering critics. You think Ferguson and his players went onto message boards and read fans criticism of his team selections? You think Cody and the Kilkenny players when they didn't win AI titles let criticism get to them? Not a hope. In sport, to be a winner, you have to have a certain mindset and a certain mentality. It has been said that Ferguson when he was at united used to pick on his young players. If they backed down from him, they were no use to him and he knew that. Why? Because they did not have the mentality to be a winner. If you could take his criticism and use it to drive you on, well, it landed you any amount of PL titles you wanted.

Fans are diverse in their views, there will never be consensus even if we win 10 AI's, there will never be consensus.
