Jamie Leahy (Castlerahan) Martin Cahill (Denn) James McEnroe (Ramor Utd) Cillian O'Reilly (Killeshandra) Alan Clarke (Kingscourt) Kevin Tierney (Ballyhaise) - ???? Eddie McCormack (Drumalee) Thomas O'Reilly (Killeshandra) Pearse McKenna (Kill) Keith Fannin (Drumgoon) Sean Gaffney (Kill) Turloc Mooney (Redhills) Brendan McKiernan (Crosserlough) Shane Tierney (Lavey) Paul O'Connor (Cavan Gaels)
Is that a missprint lads or is there something more to this? Can think of a handfull of lads better equipped for CHB based on the games I've seen this year. Cant believe theres only one Gaels man in there too.
Anyone else think this is odd?

Your missing my point. Its not just about scoring a few points, the primary job is defending, not attacking, and for me, theres better at that playing at 6. But sure everyone has their own opinion.
2 lads from the mighty Kill and only one each from the Gaels and Kingscourt even tho both are flying at the min.

Heres one,
Who'd win this game between the 2 teams below?
C Gilsenan, Jamie Leahy J McLoughlin, Martin Cahill R Dunne, James McEnroe K Clarke; Cillian O'Reilly J McEnroe, Alan Clarke A Clarke, Kevin Tierney R Flanagan; Eddie McCormack D O'Reilly, Thomas O'Reilly D Givney; Pearse McKenna C Mackey, Keith Fannin K Brady, Sean Gaffney F Flanagan; Turloc Mooney N McDermott, Brendan McKiernan M Dunne, Shane Tierney E Keating. With the exception of the cuple of lads on both teams who do ye think would win?

keep saying it... this is nothing to get worried about. Its a fundraiser event by the club. Good luck to them but there will be as many players named as possible over the year and this will make sure each club has an interest to pop the €500 for a table at the presentation, 40 clubs x €500 = €20,000. Who is the selection committee, its all on hear say and how can they decide on the winners - is someone taking stats on every player in every game ? Video evidence? I dont think so. I looked at the 2 who were nominated from my own club for last months team and to be honest they have been the worst performers so far this year. So who nominates and who decides and on what criteria. Its a publicity and fundraising campaign by the Munter connaught club. Its a novel idea, good luck to them, but wouldnt think players are too worried about making selection.

Look like your upset and not getting nominated again, dont worry, they will cover the junior c's later in the year im sure.
Why do you keep turning this into a thing about club or about money.
This is a football forum and people are on these forums to discuss football. I dont really care why this is being run or for how much, the concern should be the team, and considering how little lads have achieved at senior level this would be a nice honour for each individual to get.

What exactly is hear say? From what Ive read up on it theres nothing too confusing about it, all very straight forward and looks to be well organised from the outset. Theres an independant judging panel from clubs all around the county judging on the games. Seems fair enough unless you have an alternative way of doing it.

Not getting your point, Its not the All Stars, the team is picked every month. The COUNTY PLAYERS might make up the whole 15 next month who' knows.

Of course they might, but thats not what Im asking.
Im asking which do people think is the stronger team, the lads who are on the county team or the supposedly form team in the county at the moment.

my point is, each club will naturally nominate who they think is performing best for their club in any particular month. When it comes to a decision on who makes the team from all the nominations who decides on who makes the cut? For example say each club nominates 2 players, thats 80 players. Who decides the 15 from that 8o, because lets face it the committee cant possibly look at all the players from all divisions who have been nominated. "Hear Say" might be a bad term but they are relying on the views of a few who may only have seen some of the players. For example, Declan McKiernan was in flying form when he played against our club. A mate of mine from Mountnugent told me he put on a scoring display when Killeshandra played them. Yet no mention. The point I am trying to make is that it is being selected on the basis of a committe who cant possibly attend every club match to access player performance. As for me playing Junior c !!! I wish !!! I retired a few years ago through a career ending injury. Not that it was much of a career but i'm not bias in any way to any player. I admire every man and young lad that pulls on a jersey and plays the game at every level. Anything that promotes the game in my mind is brilliant.

BUt is the independant committee not representing all other clubs, not just their own. Surely if theres a lad there who keeps putting his own lad forward then he needs the others, who should be independant to that club, to agree aswell. Or am I wrong there?

We had this in Meath for years, the green stars and the dubs still have the blue stars. Was always a good thing to keep lads on their toes getting the team of the week in the chronicle each week and the award at the end of the year was nice for those who were selected. The Dublin one is taken fairly seriously from what I hear and the selected 15 then play the Dublin seniors in both football and hurling on new years.
Seems a good idea from the outside but may take a year or two for lads to get familiar with it and dtake it serious enough.

accessit County: Cavan I agree but how do the indepentent committee decide on the final 15 from all the nominations. There are on average 20 first team games per week. Is there someone from the independent committee at all of them . Perhaps there is a person at each game not connected with the teams playing in that tie to give an unbiased opinion ! And who decides if player A from game 1 actually performed better that player B in game 2. What criteria to they apply? I dont know!! For example when choosing the Hogan Stand team of the week there is video evidence to analyse. I'm not rubbishing the idea so long as it is independent and that the committee see all of the players. I also hope the Munter connaught club do well from this. It is so dam hard for clubs to raise funds as people as hard pushed for cash to support every event.

I cant comment on the internal workings of the committee that pick the players because Ive nothing to do with it, im just looking from the outside like yourself, but Id imagine that they have to meet and then trawl through their selections from over the year and see what players regularly crop up and so on. Im sure its not completley faultless, but it would seem balanced enough to me that if a particular player is playing well enough all year, then over the course of 15-18 league games and 4-6 championship games then he should be seen enough to earn his place on it.
My main point is that its a bit of crac and interesting to see whos performing well from week to week or month to month and I know if I think it would be a nice way for a player to sign off the year with a place on the team of the year within the county.
