Congrats to big Gearoid on making the Hogan Stand team of the week. He is building up a nice reputation and with David Givney to come back it gives us a very formidable mid-field platform. Thought Martin Dunne was unlucky not to make the team as well for the 2nd week in a row. He really looks a fine prospect and I think he has surprised a lot of people. He fills a void left by a certain Gaels man and I think he will be a massive player over the next 5 years.
Another man who has quietly surprised many people is Cian Mackey and again on Sat night he was superb. Picking up the ball, finding gaps and linking the team together.
So with the older lads like P. Reilly, McKeever, Corr and McCutcheon stepping up to the mark allied to the hunger of the lads coming up from u21 and minor it augurs well for the future. I see the u21's had a good win on Sat as well!!

Any news on the injured players? Barry Reilly, Keating, Meehan etc. Also where is Niall Smith, Jason Mc Loughlin, Maloney-Derham, K.Tierney,? Presume K.Clarke, Jack Brady are with the colleges as is Joshua Hayes even though he played Sat night.
Future looks bright.

Very early days yet.. Remember, we looked impressive in the McKenna Cup last year.

McLoughlin and Clarke are both still U-21 and won't be involved until the end of that campaign. Don't know about Tierney but I would have thought he would be a certain panel member after being in such good form last year. As far as I know Maloney-Derham isn't in the country.

Tierney was on the panel at the start of the season but I assume he is injured.

Thought we did ok again , McKiernan had another excellent game . Was impressed with Corr aswell . It's a bit early yet to be making judgements , the Antrim game will offer more of an idea of where exactly we're at but I thought the movement again up front wasn't great at times , and we ran out of steam fairly early in the second half . We had alot of players behind the ball , but they were very stationary , with little breaking runs , and we ended up being very predictable in our hand passing , carrying the ball into contact and losing possession in dangerous areas . Didn't really see the point of making substitutions with one or two minutes to go , we needed to make them earlier .
There were alot of positives to take from the game , we showed alot of heart and put some very good moves together at times . It will be interesting to see what team he goes with v Antrim and if he'll commit more up front . I would say that we have a huge amount of work to do on our fitness levels . To persist with and improve on the system we're trying to play , we're going to have to be at a level of fitness way above where we are now , or indeed , where any Cavan team has been at over the last number of years .

Enjoyed watching both McKenna Cup matches to date from home thanks to Newry/Armagh TV. I have been keeping an eye on the Kildare team sheets in the O'Byrne Cup (3 matches) and there is no sign of the great Seanie playing. Is is still living in Cavan Town and working with the VEC? C'ant see him getting his place back with the way young Martin Dunne is playing. Down to win tomorrow night to kill off of any further chance of Cavan advancing.

Just a pity we dident qualify as it would have given an extra game or maybe 2 to the young team. Missed chances against Down and changing our freetaker at half time dident help but it is a learning curve for everybody!!
Have we a full strength u21 team for Saturdays final? Are we favourites?

Hard to call it,this is the longford team that won a leinster minor 3 years ago, they hammered wicklow and Roscommon. Clarke will have his hands full with robbie smith. Mcgivney and Barry mckeon will be hard handled aswell. Should be a great game if it goes ahead.

Humpty,

Don't mind what that lad says, he can talk about us all he likes. I'm sure Terry and the lads have a plan B, and even a plan C. Yes, we were very defensive in the two games we played in the sense that we brought numbers back and crowded out. However I'd imagine we'll be playing a very different style when Keating is back in the full forward line. Himself and Dunne will complement each other well, we just need a faster more direct ball.

Armagh have been given a big shot in the arm with Jamie Clarke available for the championship. We could not handle young Forker the other evening, now there's Clarke to deal with as well. Our full back line need's a lot of fine tuning.
