10 Players either not on the panel two young injured or just not up to senior standard yet.

Would you mind telling me who is not on the panel from the list I named, and who is injured?

I don't buy the argument about being too young. If you're good enough you're old enough. Is Paddy McBrearty too young? Is Cillian O'Connor too young? Are Danny Geraghty, Aidan Walsh, Mark Hehir, Colm O'Neill too young?

Utter nonsense you can carry one young lad but 9 or 10 no way can you do this. Senior lads will protect the young lads but how many senior lads have we left. Too many young lads I am sorry to say. I am all for youth don't get me wrong but this many going into the preliminary round of Ulster is suicide.

Because when I read posts like yours and some of the others I have too.

I think a lot are looking at the last three programs from the Antrim match the Ulster under 21 final and the All Ireland U21 simi and coming up with a team.

Also as an adult I have every right to log on and make a post love them or hate them its your own prerogative

All bar one but I would never pick your team thats for sure but well done.

Could you perhaps expand on why you wouldn't pick my team Sean. I'd be interested in more than a one line answer and to read your reasoning. You see the team in training so I'd like to hear a bit of what you have to say re my selection.

Replies to Sean and Richie

Sean, I did say at the start of my team selection post that I was not privy to the latest news on panel, injuries etc and picked my selection assuming the names players were available. You're closer to the action so in a better position to judge who's in line and who's not, injuries, recovery etc. In an ideal world I selected my best team and I'm happy to stick with that.

Richie, you're correct in saying that I am a keep advocate of youth development and am delighted to see us making progress at minor and U21 levels. Long may it continue. However, I have noticed that there is a sharp drop off from U21 to senior and would only expect 2 or 3 of an U21 team to successfully play on to senior county level. That is why I discarded the players you mentioned. On recent evidence I think they have peaked as far as county level is concerned. From the 2010 U21 team there are players who started against Donegal in the Ulster Final that aren't even making their club first teams now, but don't start me on that subject. That was the U21 All Ireland that really got away from us.

Because of what I do I can see what is performing what is injured, I just could not name people that I feel are not up to it. I am sure you understand this. I did say well done with your selection however.

Seanoroinn,

Just a word of advice.
Players doing well in training does not mean that all will be well on the day. Don't fall into the same trap as you fell into last year !!
Matches are a far cry from training stints !!
There is nothing like the real thing !!

Ondforty I just can't agree how u21s from 2010 could have peaked already after 1 season with the senior squad. The whole process is a learning process, which includes gaining experience from winning and losing.. So for me it would be impossible to already be discarding a bunch of 2010 u21s so soon and be replacing them by a bunch of less experienced u21s from 2012 team as you have done in your team that you picked.. By my reckoning if we added 2/3 players each year to the experience we had( before they were discarded) we would have a solid panel next year. Instead posters here are calling for 5/6 of this years u21 team to make the Donegal game on the basis of their u21 ulster success. That's a total relighting of last years mad move against Donegal.. Blood these young lads very slowly..

I fell into no trap I can tell you WHO could have legislated for what panned out over the last 5 Months.
I expect there are those that can answer what happened and who did not do what was requested of them or had other agenda's.
We had even players walk because they were asked to play in different positions.
We had the players let me tell you to get us promoted but for the life of me NO ONE could have legislated
for the teams that were picked and the substitutions that were made from match to match.
I fell into no trap we had the players but sadly not all got their chance.
I can tell you with the same panel of players that we had at the start of the league I would never even have got near naming the fifteen that started match after match
even worse the substitutions that were made the mind boggles.

Richie,
we seem to be in agreement that 2/3 players from an U21 team should be drafted on to the senior panel each year. We just don't agree on who those players should be. I don't rate the players you mentioned as county seniors, but that's just my opionion. In some cases I doubt that they will be on their club's first team in three years time.

Ondforty the players i mentioned were only used as an example but they are better than this years u21s. Apart from p leddy and Tierney no one else could step up this year at short notice. By all means blood some of them slowly over next years mc kenna cup and league.

K Fanning
JmcLoughlin Killian Clarke D Barkey

K Shanaghy(lacken) John Mc Cutchoen F Flanagan (butlersbridge)

G mc Keirnan Owen Mc Guigan

Fergal Flanagan E Keating M mc Keever

Jack Brady David Givney Kevin Tierney

That would be my team,i dont know if K Shanachy or Mc Guigan are on panel or not.I went for givney at full forward because of square ball rule, and two quick thinking forwards each side of him .A hard working half forward line plus they can mix it aswell.Midfield strong, half back line are the best in county at minuite and that line struggled in league

It doesn't matter who we play against Donegal, fact is if we played 20 players we would still get beat, just not good enough.

Slippery (It doesn't matter who we play against Donegal, fact is if we played 20 players we would still get beat, just not good enough)
The lads will be really brimming with confidence reading statements like above!!!!!! Talk about throwing in the towel!!!
You would never think we played in the last 3 Ulster u21 finals, winning 2.
OK we have not been setting the world on fire lately at Senior but we always have to be optimistic. As well last years gutless performance in Breffni against the same opposition doesent bode well but fighting spirit and a bit of pride in our jersey you never know what could happen.
Remember it was only a few years ago that morale was at a low level in Donegal also and see how McGuinness has turned it around.
We have got to believe that there is a big performance in our lads. Think of the hurt after last year, fight for every ball, respect them but dont fear them, take our chances and who knows!!!
