3. Feargal Flanagan
4. Ronan Flanagan
5. John McCutcheon
6. Padraig O'Reilly
7. Barry Waters

12. Niall Murray
13. Niall McDermott
14. Eugene Keating
15. Martin Dunne

3 Championship debutantes there in Smith, Dunne and Barkey. Kevin Meehan and Damien O'Reilly were left out but won't be far away in reality. I think it's too soon for Killian Clarke and Jason McLoughlin. Tierney doesn't offer anything at the moment that McDermott doesn't already provide so Flanagan would the only U21 to warrant inclusion. If Barry Reilly was fit I'd have him in the half forward line for his range of passing. He pulled the strings in the Donegal victory in the U21 game last year.
There is no expectation, no build up to this game, just the overwhelming feeling that we are in for a trouncing. The lads should embrace that and play like they have nothing to lose.

how about this - post a team which you think gives us our best chance against Donegal

I'd be interested in having a stab at this, and I have done below, but there seems to be a lot of confusion as to what players are currently in the mix. With players dropped, asked back, injured etc it's very difficult to know who to chose from. Is Rory Dunne back playing yet? Did John McCutcheon go back to training? are Jack Brady, Josh Hayes on the panel? Assuming yes to all of the above, here's my preferred team.

1 K Fannin
2 O Minagh
3 Rory Dunne
4 K Clarke
5 J Hayes
6 J McCutcheon
7 M McKeever
8 G McKiernan
9 P Leddy
10 D Givney
11J Brady
12 N Smith
13 B Fitzpatrick
14 N McDermot
15 C McClarey

Ondforty.............quick question for you here......You been such and avid follower of underage teams you seem to have discarded lads u21s like murray, maloney derham, meehan in favour of this years u21s like j brady, leddy.

How can you justify replacing some of 2010s under21s with some of 2012s u21s?
I thought this whole underage process was to add experience slowley. you saw what happened with 7/8 newcommers in last years championship, but you are proposing something similar again this year.
Seems we always starting to teambuild but we never really start with so much chop and change

You have named seven players above who will not hack it at senior level this year anyway. One player in the most important position will not last the full match, Strange call for sure.

Seven players either not on the panel or are not ready yet for the higher level.

Heard in Dublin last night , Niall Murray , David Givney and Tierney Chicago bound for summer , Hayes ill with a virus and out and Dunne not going to be back from injury , all that if true will put a few holes in these teams. Haven't posted in a while here but have to say sickened at post saying we just need to be ready to take a hiding from Donegal , could not disagree more. Hyland and Forde are no fools, will stand up to the job select the very best out of what is in the panel and it is full of talent, we will win, start believing!

Glad to see other posts telling Richiej to shut it. His posts are the reason I think there's alot of disdain for this forum in the county. Enough of the negativity. Hyland and Forde deserve their chance and they're taking over a team which has beaten 3 Division 4 teams in the Championship in the last 6 or 7 years (Fermanagh, Antrim and Wicklow) so we're far from world beaters. We need to give a management team time for once. ur players don't tend to be the most commited either from what I've seen over the years so hopefully with the U21s we'll see a change. As for my team:

At the moment I'd be going with:

Fintan Reilly (if he goes back to the panel). Goalkeeper is a major problem. James Reilly isn't the player he was and Fannin is a good shot stopper but his kick outs are weak.

Ronan Flanagan
Oisin Minagh
Damien Barkey

Barry Watters
Pauric O'Reilly
John McCutcheon

David Givney
Gearoid McKiernan

Niall Smith
Mark McKeever
Robert Maloney Derham

Bud Fitzpatrick
Eugene Keating
Niall McDermott

I'd then drop Maloney Dernham back as a half back and allow McCutcheon or Podge O'Reilly to play as a sweeper with Eugene Keating and one of the two corner forwards playing as a two man full forward line, the other forward dropping back as a half forward.

I think Keating needs to stay in the full forward line so we've a big man in there. If he's needed out the field (he's capable of kicking long range scores,) then I'd take McDermott out for Cullivan.

Are all these players in the panel Seanorinn?

cfsm- def not true about Givney know him well might go if Cavan knocked out but 100 pcent committed to Cavan. Cornafean bet Cootehill in Division 2 last night they didnt have Hayes he didn't play so don't know what story is there . Martin Dunne is back training and should be fit, don't know about the other 2. Have seen Gerald Pierson mentioned here too anyone know if height come in, one of the best forwards on the county a far greater talent than any other forward in Cavan at the min , would go so far as to say Kildare poached the wrong forward!

sean,

who cares if they're not on the panel. .we are under new management who said they would look at all players in the county.

maybe the fact that so many of the players named in the teams above are not on the panel tells u something.

the team u put forward yourself wont be a million miles away from what the team WILL BE but is a long long way from what the team could or SHOULD BE!

What is the point in naming players that are not on the panel better to name from whats there.
One could name several players who are not on the panel but.

well terry hyland said that he would look at all players playing in cavan, but ok let's look at only the ones on the panel.

as someone in the know, could you please post a list of the current cavan senior panel.

Sean commenting on the number of players you think each person has got "wrong" isn't much of a discussion. You could at least say who, why they are not ready etc.

Well in fairness do you think thats my job to name the full panel.
To tell you the truth right now its near impossible it is changing that much.
I am sure when the program is printed for the 20th you like I will have a fair idea.
