Division One League 2012

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Can anyone shed light on the fixtures for the division one league? Is there a scheduled format fixed at all? Last year was very difficult to follow the league as games seemed to be fixed and arranged only a week in advance.

It's an absolute thundering disgrace that there will be no double headers this weekend and therefore no football for many who have slogged during the winter training. Then when there is a junior match to be played it in turn will become a single fixture and teams will put out their strongest teams thus disadvantaging some players - probably those who attended all the sessions. It also has to be said that they are also making away teams, players and supporters travel twice and probably pay twice into both games and therefore put more undue financial pressure on people travelling. County board & fixtures committee have no respect for ALL players in my opinion. The games should be played as double headers so everyone can get a chance to play. But the fixtures committee will clap each other on the back when the league finishes in October again having brought it further back to be played in February. Joke.

Your spot on with that assessment.. I wouldnt mind but there would be bigger gate receipts if they had double headers...

IN REPLY TO LIFEBUOY, A very big amount of what you're saying is true, but in theory I suppose the county board decided to try and protect the pitches.
But yes in total agreement that double headers are by far the best for everyone concerned - be it players, supporters, clubs, etc.
IMO the junior match should always be played first. it's the curtain raiser and that way not many of your seniors will be wanted "to stand on the square" and real junior players will get their game.

its the clubs that keep all the gate money from all their home games in the league, it will only give more money to your club.

to true, its a joke that they arent doubling again this suits the stronger clubs, also putting alot of extra expense on players and the clubs. I also think the way the fixture committee is notifing the clubs of the fixtures isnt right, its all be email. What happens if you dont have access to a computer or cant use computers, what happen to publishing them in the celt as has been done all along. it seams to be kept a bit of secret. . .

my club wouldn't be able to field 2 teams so that would mean some players playing twice the one day which isn't ideal either. It's up to the management to pick the reserves for the junior games and up to those players to demand they are played

There are no reserve fixtures only for the first two rounds of the league - TO SAVE PITCHES! Not every club has the luxury of having a second field and this is an attempt by the county board not to force those clubs into playing 2 games on pitches in February when there not ready. Don't forget, Minor league games are being played on these pitches also. When the senior league restarts in April, pitches will be able for double fixtures and things will get back to normal. Rd 1 and Rd 2 of the reserve leagues will be played in March when there are no senior games.

So Castlerahan's league game with Lacken is called off because ronan flanagan is with the Ulster team today. Wonder can we get our game called off because one of our players is away playing handball & is not fit to play ? If every team that had a player missing did this, there would not be many games on each weekend. Play without him for christ sake

That was a decision taken by the County Board and not Castlerahan's decision to call it off.. The same goes for Swanlinbar and Gearoid County Board called his game off..
