I've been thinking about this today and I've tried to put myself in the shoes of the management and then in the shoes of the player. If* the player was a constant source of negativity in the camp and if* he was instigating a coup d'état amongst the players then I think the management may have a genuine case for omitting him. If* the player has not received support from the CB or his fellow panelists following his omission then he has a right to feel aggrieved. This may* be a situation of the players making, or it could be a clash of egos with the management team. The truth probably lies somewhere in between, like other posters I will reserve judgment until all the facts are laid bare.
Transferring between counties is deemed 'unethical' by the purists but in reality is a common practice - see Karl O'Dywer, Larry Tompkins, Ken Darcy, Sean Lowry, Stefan White, Ciaran Barr, Billie Joe Padden, Billy Sheehan, Alan Costello, Shay Fahey, Rory Gallagher, Gareth Smith ... the list goes on. If the CB and the rest of the county players have not offered their support then it is hard for people to use the 'loyalty' card against him. Practically speaking Seanie is left with no other option if he wants to play at the highest level considering he has only next 4-5 good years left in him. If he is eligible to play for Kildare it will be a sad day for Cavan football, but he's fully committed now and for his sake it might be best if the transfer hearing goes in his favor.

Why havent we heard a " work hard and get yourself back into the panel Seanie" from Mr Andrews since this story blew up??
Management should say that the door hasnt been closed completely. That would leave Seanie in the position to fight for his place
If the door has been closed completely well Seanie has no other option but go if he want to play at inter county level.
But management are not prepared it seems to say whether the door is firmly closed on Seanie or if there is a way back this year. Thats where all the confusion has arisen because i believe if there was a way back for Seanie he would fight for his place. Just like he did with the gaels this year.

Been reading with interest here. Sheva7, your loyality to the gales is to be admired but you need to take a step back for a min and look again. You put all the blame with the CB but has Seanie come out and said that he is willing to fight for his place, has he said he would like to come back??? Val did say the door wasnt closed for ANYONE, I dont think he needs to start singleing out fellas for a special mention. Jelly is a great footballer when he fancies it, but all too often last year he didnt fancy it and his attitude wasnt right. The wicklow game aside, I cant remember a game when he really stood out. I do remember him getting bottled up several times and blown for overcarrying and giving outto the ref against donegal though. I think he wont get it that easy to walk into a hard working Kildare team. Its sad to see all this take place and there wont be any winners in all this but if its whathe wants then he should be let go. Fair play to Val for making the hard decisions. I'll be some treck from Straffan to cavan everyday for work and then training with the Gales 3 evenings a week aswell. !! Wouldnt fancy leaving terry coyle at 10pm, head to straffan and then back to cavan for 9am the next day. !!! GOing to be an interesting summer.

Hi hear that Luke Fitzgerald is looking to transfer to France. He wants to play international rugby and went to France on holidays once and thought it was a nice place.

I think Seanie has been either ill advised or a bit naive here.Yes he doesnt seem to have many friends at CB or management level prepared to stand up for him.
My advice to him would to to speak to respected members of the gaels club who have been involved in football a lifetime at club level. Listen to what they have to say, they wont put him wrong. Knuckle down with the gaels, When Andrews comes calling then Seanie has 2 choices.AND I KNOW THE CHOICE ID MAKE!

Let johnston go people and quit making a big scene over him...all the gauson is looking for is attention and with people starting threads about him then hes getting exactly what he wants. If he was a true cavan man he wouldnt be looking for a transfer. He would knuckle down and play with his club for the next year or so and then when val moves on he would be back in on the senior panel.
CAVAN ABU!!!

I agree let him go,God knows he's being trying to get away this last few years. In 2007 he headed to the States during the Championship,he apologised to the management team(Donal Keoghan etc.) and his team mates afterwards and was back for 2008.At the end of 2008 he told the incoming management team (Tommy Carr, etc.) that he wouldn't be available for the 2009 championship as he would be travelling that year. Now this year he wants to travel to Kildare, well the best of luck to him, the K Club's a much better golf course than the one in Cavan.

Sean o rinn you are so far off the mark when you do hear the truth clubs are not going to be happy. 3 months ago we had thr PRO telling us there was no panel yet Andrews was dropping blokes in october by fone? Any out spoken guy who questioned any mistakes that were made last year was dropped. Andrews has told Johnston that he wont play for him again. Thats a fact. Seemingly not been able to explain the mistakes of last year to Senior players led the management to come out with "we gona try something new this year" Sadly there is no way back for johnston under andrews and this has led johnston to look for a transfer because its pointless staying to fight for his place. Thats what he has been told. NOW YOUR READING FACTS

Yes, that is the technicality he got in on. Not many people complain when their club or county adopts a player, but when it's the other way around the defiant 'One club One county' line gets rattled off by every misinformed eijit. Gareth Smith was born in Dublin, lives in Dublin, represented Dublin at underage, plays his club football in Dublin and I'm told that he attended Dublin senior trials more than once. He was all the talk around Cavan two years ago and rightly so, yet Michael Brides came in for a fair bit of critisicm when he transfered from Redhills to Gareth Smiths club.
If Seanie Johnston is left with no other option but to switch counties then I don't think people should be so harsh to judge him for doing so. I've no doubt theres quite a few one-eyed bregrudging twits who would love to see him accept his fate and play out the rest of his club career like a wounded animal. If people want to vent frustration then the should focus on the 'powers that be' and ask how they allowed such a situation to arise on their watch.

"Now this year he wants to travel to Kildare, well the best of luck to him, the K Club's a much better golf course than the one in Cavan." Seriously the vast majority of Kildare supporters would prefer if he stayed in Cavan and we relied on our own homegrown talent. Feel that Cavan might use Seanie as a motivating tool this year and have a good year.

It has gone too far now anyway.I started this forum to clarify rumors I had heard. Sean is not going to play for Cavan this year and anyone can see that! He will be a great loss. But, seeing the comments and replies over the last few weeks my opinion on the matter has changed. If seany Johnston wants to go and play for another county, let him! He s not going to play for Cavan this year. There are management issues with seany it's clear to see, but Val is there now and he s staying for at least another year. So why take a chance and actually back him. We have nothing to lose, and things can't get any worse thats for sure. The lads have done outrageous work over the last few months and they are actually getting the the results. To keep things rolling I think we should focus on the positives and this my friends is one big NEGATIVE!

Slow down there a minute! WHAT RESULTS ARE THEY GETTING?? We have let in 5-13 in 2 games against a Donegal team that had 4 regulars and a bunch of students thrown together.....powerfull stuff eh? Against Donegal we scored 0-5 from play by our forwards. We have kicked untold wides in 3 games. Yes there have been positives like Dunne and McClarey in the forwards but we are leaking goals the other end and honestly that wont be stopped by reading coaching manuals. Lets not lose the run of ourselves here

sheva, so what you're saying is by creating 30 scoring chances and only getting 15 scores a game things are bad? that's dominating matches... on the negative side we are letting in too many goals with both keeper and backs to blame, but that can be improved with coaching.

I never said it was bad what i said ppl are starting to lose the run of themselves. Yes we won 2 games which is great for moral but defensively we are poor. Even if you look at last nights first 3 substitutions the management took off 3 forwards even though their corner forward had scored 2-1 in the first half. A proper defensive coach is needed on board to help coach these backs. look at Louth they brought in John O leary from Dublin to work with the goalkeeper and backs. You can see where Stephen Kings midfield experience and coaching is working well for Givney and McKiernan
Same is needed urgently with the backs. Some one like Jim Reilly or Ollie Brady who can command respect to coach these backs badly needed.
