Seanie Johnston...

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

No way I want him back. You boys have short memories. This boy walked out in breffni and played against us and went out of his way to tap over a free. He can stay where he is. I don't want him and more importantly Cavan doesn't need him.

I would never say never but I would have a lot of sympathy with Fredflint. That day that he ran out in Breffni and the Kildare fans all round me sneering and laughing at us, hurt very deeply. Then to compound it he wrote a full page article in the Times on how he was treated so badly by Cavan!!It was very, very wrong to do that on your native county and supporters that cherished and adored him for so long.
So it would take an awful lot of explaining before I would accept him back in a Blue jersey.

Qualifier game in a matter of days for this new look Cavan team, yet only in Cavan would you get so called "supporters" discussing a man who walked away from his native county, and then proceeded to play against them in another teams jersey. Think Mackey, think Alan Clarke, think McCutcheon, lads who also found themselves dropped and didn't run off to the nearest county who would have them.

Focus on what matters ffs.

There is a thread about Saturdays game already, keep to it if you want to talk about the game.

It takes a big person to revisit a difficult situation like this especially where mistakes were made on both sides. We are obviously not at that point but I would like to tease this out further if only for the sake of argument. Why have people taking this personally; and what would it actually take for us to arrive at a point of reconciliation?
Like I said, if it's for the greater good of Cavan football it should be a no-brainer

cant help but think if seanie had been playing against monaghan, well it might have been cavan in the final, yes what he did may have been wrong, only he knows that, and yes a lot of people in cavan would be hurting, i rate him as a great player, none of us are saints, and i believe we all deserve a second chance, yes yous have a great young team, a team that will dominate ulster in the future, anyway best of luck,

Con. It is simple if you open your eyes. Compare the work rate and togetherness of this years Cavan team and then think back to say the team Seanie (unbelievably) was captain of. Is he really as good a footballer as you think - what has he done for Kildare - sure he cant even make the team. You think it is somehow worth risking the harmony in the panel to bring this fella back. You are out of your mind and I am quite sure there is zero chance of that happening. It is you that needs to convince me what there is to gain by doing this. We don't need him. We have Dunne, Keating, McDermott, Enda Reilly, Paul O Connor, Connor Madden. Barry Reilly, Jack Brady, Kevin Tierney etc coming along. Them lads I named above are 110% committed to Cavan and are willing to follow instructions and work as part of a wider team and I wouldnt displace one of them for Seanie Johnston and all his baggage.

What did Seanie bring to the team??

I can't believe people are actually saying this. Do you all forget the Wicklow game for one instance when he dragged us over the line?

Seanie was at fault for leaving but Andrews was more at fault in my opinion.

Con, yes what I was trying to do was put this thread to bed, as first of all we have an important match on Saturday evening, and secondly I personally feel that Seanie belongs to the past. Other "older"players went back to their clubs and through performances got back on the county panel along with buying into a team attitude.
I always found Seanie's decision to go to Kildare hurtful, selfish and annoying.

First off Val Andrews was not on his own here.
The wicklow was not won by Seannie it was won by Miko's inability to cope with the two extra men he ad as he just did not know what to do with them.
This match was won by the introduction of McKeever Cahill and Flannigan and Clarke playing freely. They played out of their skin. Of course the scorer will always get the nod but the suppliers on the day were the inspiration for that win.

Sweep it under the bed you mean - not cool. Firstly, there is a thread about Saturdays game and secondly you make no valid argument for revisiting this issue other than your feelings being hurt.

At least Fred raised the issue about upsetting the current dynamic, which is a very valid concern. I would be looking to enhance the current situation, not release the cat amongst the birds. Concessions would need to be made and heads would need to be pulled.

Seanorfoinn,

We have often had plenty of a supply but nobody to make it count. Seanie at least could do that. Give him some credit for God's sake.

Con, you said "secondly you make no valid argument for revisiting this issue other than your feelings being hurt"
Seanie left, I didn't ask him to go. Cavan have moved on without him. Other older players played their way back into the team which shows guts. Seanie didn't, end of story.

Cavan-Slaher when you get time read my post like a good person.
Show me where I knocked the individual but you will see I give credit where it is due.
Like many on here you are so blinkered you cannot see the wider scale.
Its no wonder Cavan football is where it is. (TUNNEL VISIONED)
I wonder did they have the same tunnel vision in the 40s and 50s I doubt it ????

He has never said he was coming back to play for Cavan. People are getting ahead of themselves, only speculation and that's all.

Seanoroinn,

I didn't say you knocked the person. You were reluctant to give him the credit he deserved and were willing to credit the other subs and also to point out Micko's mistakes before giving any credit to Seanie at all. He scored one of the best points we will ever see in Breffni that day.
