Seanie Johnston...

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Johnstone was captain for the Gaels last year. He was stripped of the captaincy around the Gowna league game in terry coyle park.
Didn't he also play for the Gaels 2nd team in the championship before he played with the 1st team in the championship in 2011

I think its terribly sad that Johnson is looking for another County. He has played for at least seven years for the County, proving he has nothing to prove to anyone. His skills have entertained all Cavan fans and it is simply a case that management seem to think that would be better of without him.Two games, and fourteen wides each game proves we cannot be without quality forwards.I let a friend who played for Wicklow for over ten years and is now retired know that Cavan management have chosen to do without his services. He is now retired in America, but this is what he said,'I think that is a very foolish move by Andrews to drop the experienced players I think. I don't think I ever saw as amazing 35 minutes shooting from one player in my life as when Seanie Johnston hit 5 unbelievable points against us in my last game for Wicklow - it was a bad game to bow out on for me, we were up by 5 points at half time and had an extra man. Seanie was getting scores from the sideline. He can't have gone that downhill in 18 months, surely'.Truth hurts!I hope he returns!

in the artical it suggests kildare need goal scores and seanie hasnt scored a championship goal in 8 years of 20 games! so would he even get playing for kildare?

Seanie never asked to leave Cavan . He was told he wasn't needed this year. Posters should lay off him and management should explain their position as to whether he is needed or not. If he's not needed he can go where he likes.

yes i think cavan management should just tell everyone what the story is including sennie , the story on h.s states sennie says he had a ten second conversation with the manager , kind of saying val didnt want to speak to him ,thats what i get from it . i think its very unfair for him and cavan supporters not to be told .i was really hoping they just didnt select him for the mc kenna cup ,and he would be back for the league . thoughts ?

Sheva7. I think you will find that it is you that is fuelling this topic! The management do not have to justify their panel to anyone. In my opinion Seanie spat the dummy (not for the first time!) after that phone call in October. He has closed the door on his playing career, not the management who have remained tightlipped and must be respected for that. You are certainly passionate about Seanie's treatment but your posts are not helping either him or Cavan football in general.

It's a very sad state of affairs. Cavan needs to hold on to Seanie. Whatever happened in the past is irrelevant. He's an accurate forward, and exactly what our Senior team needs. The man just wants to continue his inter-county career, so if he can't do it in Cavan, then he has no choice but go elsewhere. Pity though.

its where he's from and who he should want to play for and do whatever it takes to achieve this! so he falls over after 8 years and doesnt want to get back up.. poor attitude!

i think its total disrespect to the players aswell as he's basically saying im better than you's and im going to prove it!! what happens if all goes threw an we end up playing kildare at some point! what will he do???

wise up will you he was shown the greatest of respect and remember this goes both way's. Remember this Val Andrews said the door is locked to no one so for those that are resumed to have been dropped they can fight and train to get back onto the panel, is this hard to ask of anyone. There should be no such thing as a sure thing for it creates complacency and not only that disharmony in the dressing rooms for players say to themselves why should I bother trying when he or they will walk back into the starting 15. Its great now moral is high and everyone fighting for their place.

Good point jinky15. No one seems to know the full story regarding Seanie Johnston and the Cavan management but it does seem strange the manner of his dropping from the Cavan panel. If his transfer goes through without him having to change clubs this sets up a dangerous precedent for the future. It could open up the floodgates and have players from all over the country trying to transfer to other counties. Perhaps wiser council could prevail and Val Andrews might be persuaded to rethink his position. Why couldn't Andrews have given the players a time frame to satisfy him as to their suitability, fitness, committement such as the end of the McKenna cup or the league before making a final decision on his championship panel?

From what Seanie Johnston is saying is that the door was closed to him after a ten second phonecall. Admittedly it does seem unlikely that any manager would dismiss any player in that short space of time.

I think Seanie doesn't realise that football is a team sport.if he wants to go let him go.why allow yourself be elected players rep for the Gaels if he already was thinking of getting out of Cavan football

I wonder then if the conversation was cut short by one or the other with no chance to communicate well then that being the case it could well have been it BUT Val has stated no door was shut on ANY PLAYER THE DOORS ARE OPEN TO ALL INCLUDING Sannie

It was in one of the news papers over the last few weeks which one I cannot remember but I can tell you its a known fact no door is shut and that should be the end of it. If one of these players say's it was shut thats his prerogative and its up to you and I if we wish to believe that ???
