Seemingly the so called rumours about Johnstone, lyng, nesty, Reilly, Mackey omission were true after all. Seems in cavan two footed scoring forwards are not needed. Roadrunners the order of the day.

Yeah I missed a few! So did Val it seems. We conceded 15 goals last year and the management drop 4 forwards. Makes sense????? Not one player from the county champions starts Sunday. Div 4 here we come. And the sooner the better. We might get proper action when we rock bottom

Not one player starting from either of the 4 teams involved in the senior championship or division 1 league final. Interesting

This is the McKenna Cup not the Championship we should look at our panel, it's refreshing to see the whingers are back!

Sean , every game is important . Winning breeds confidence. A run in the McKenna cup would gives early confidence for the league. A Run in the league would give momentum for the championship. I still feel Andrews hasn't the best players on board. If you look at Fermanagh since Canavan was appointed, every player wants to play for him. Players who hadn't played for years are coming back, just because Canavan is manager. Shows the height of respect there is for him. I really feel even at such an early stage that they have run their course. If you cant entice good players to play well you don't have that special touch or respect. It's frustrating that players like Johnstone (who I regard as the best Cavan forward since Charlie Gallagher) can't find his way into an average panel of players. Surely the best way to gee up someone like Seanie is to leave him on the subs bench for a few games? Not drop him completely? After all he scored on 11 of the 13 competitive games last year. Scoring 2-35 which was 1/4 of Cavans total. So can I ask Val who is going to equal those stats???? Watching club football this year I found lyng Johnstone and Dunne as good a combination as I saw in any club game. None of the 3 are on the panel and I ask the question was Andrews at ANY county championship games this year????

Results are what matters,
From what I heard recently, Val Andrews has done a hell of a lot of work in the past year in trying to change the culture of Cavan football, from what I have been told players are better prepared, from speaking with players on the panel, they are happy about the preparations and excited at the possibilities this year.
As most know I have been the one of Val Andrews harshest critics, however, I feel that he has approached the task with a demonstrated plan, a devoted diligence, an applied intelligence, a strength of character, on occasion a streak of stubbornness, a sprinkling of wisdom, and at times, baffling as it seems to us mere punters, a streak of madness.

I hold judgment on the team that Val built until judgment by comparison is an honest measure of the team.

Right now I say let the Lads do us proud, and if the Lads are Val's Lads, then I say…Let Val's Lads do us proud.

Shev is Seanie back from Australia? And if he is, do you think he should go onto the panel immediately?

its your opinion but as far as it goes for me Val Andrews is building a new panel of players and this McKenna cup should only be used as a guide going forward for it has no value right now. Promotion to Division 2 should be the only issue on anyones mind for 2012 and maybe a run in the qualifiers.

seanorinn, I dont post on this too often but your argument seems to be the same as a lot of people. Why is Johnston not on the squad, why is lyng and mackey not on the squad?? Judging from the cavan team that lined out against Derry you can see that the management is trying to focus on the young players and breed them into better players than the likes of johnston and lyng. If you look at the team it is quite young apart from fintan reilly who is around 30 or so. We werent going anywhere with the likes of lyng and johnston cause their individuals in my opinion. Look at Mickey Harte and what he did in the late nineties with Tyrone underage, a lot of his players from minor and u21 went on to win an ulster in 2001 and then an all-ireland in 2003. We have to stick with the young players and hopefully 3 or 4 years down the line, it will reap rewards. The sooner Cavan fans understand this the better.

I am confused by your post may I ask what you are trying to employ when you say my argument is the same as everyone else please explain.?? I am confused by one or two decisions regarding people gone from the panel but I fully support Val Andrews in what he is doing.

Seanorinn, why are u coming on here and running players down like mackey, johnston and lyng, after the service they have gave to there county the last ten years, especially johnston.thats the problem with cavan football all YES men like you.the way the above three boys have being treated by the county team management is a disgrace in my opinion.to ring a fella and tell him he is in the panel for 2012 and then ring him the next day and deny the call was made and to then tell him he is dropped...a joke...i hope all the players cop onto hyland and andrews..do you think any other county in ireland would drop there best player ??..cavan football are a laughing stock of the country and the GAA.

the derry game is nothing to go off and you cant use that saying cavan played well..look what they done last year in the mckenna cup !! done ok and then got slaughtered in leauge and championship..face the facts and wake up !!!

Sean o Rinn of course you support Val Andrews in everything he does and says but if you were in Celtic park last Sunday ud have seen where leaving Jonstone out has been a TOTAL mistake. Inadequate forwards taking the wrong option from play , kicking wide after wide from play and frees. If leaving Seanie Johnstone out was the answer to our problems well Val has got it wrong again. I don't care how commited this bunch are or what time they get ip in morning to train. If you can't put a simple ball over the bar from 20-30 metres you have no business being ther no matter how fit you think you might be. Now Val would need to come down of his high horse and get Johnstone back in the panel as he is one of the few that is consistently able to kick the ball over the bar with either foot. Last year Andrews made him Captain. This year he drops him. Now Seanie hasn't become a bad footballer over night. His recent scoring stats won't be matched by any1 I saw last Sunday. So Val don't let your ego get in the way of all good players playing for Cavan. Not just the roadrunners!
