Well then if they are "axed" who is actually on the panel?

I've a feeling some of those left off will be back come St Patrick's day.

In my opinion Val has made the right decision and I would be more surprised by the omission of James Reilly.

The County Board who have allowed this happen while in charge are answerable to the Cavan GAA public and to the clubs and the County Convention is around the corner. It is a really black day that we are seeing these top class players humiliated and scapegoated for the failures of a management/selection team that has done nothing to gain the approval or confidence of Cavan players, clubs and supporters. To scapegoat players in such a public and unfair way is surely a player welfare issue. We don't have bench loads of talent that we can afford to drop such players. A truly backward step.

I have read the link to the page in question I am not sure that the quotes are correct for they named six players now gone yet reading them I feel who ever wrote this post are grasping at bits and bobs.
I feel that the information on James is incorrect and judging by what is posted they don't know who is gone or not. They have named some players that most know about yet left out others so its hit and miss this information.
I am sure in time all will be explained and I am sure a few that have been mentioned once they solve their injuries they will be back. One has to back the decisions of Val Andrews here and respect it at the end of the day. He does after all need a full panel and cannot afford to carry injured players.

John,
so your saying James Reilly, johnson, lyng, nesty are all injured?
James Reilly all star nominated Goal-keeper dropped, Jamie Leehy, 4th choice goal-keeper for cavan's 2011 under 21 team included. please explain the rationale behind that?

If this is all rumour and spectulation, should the Manager just let us all know who is in and who is out?

I have said no one was injured in any post.

I also said I don't believe miller is gone.

what is the procedure year on year in naming the senior panel.

As most know a panel can be named for the McKenna cup and it then is changed a lot when the national league starts.

You know the answer to this question, the rationale is clear to anyone who knows anything about football in this county! It is glaringly obvious that the players currently on the senior panel [are not/b] the best players available in the county. The mystery is why on earth the current manager/selectors are allowing themselves be associated with such a farcical situation. Young Leahy is a grand goalkeeper, but on any given Sunday facing any other team in Ulster let alone the rest of the country who would you want keeping nets, James Reilly or Jamie Leahy....no contest. Myself and a few mates went through the 39 clubs in Cavan the other night and we concluded that there are in the region of 15-18 players out there who have not even been considered, but judging by today's announcement on Hoganstand they have not a hope of being considered in the light of the standard of player that is being dropped.

why don't you name the 15 to 18 players you say have not been asked or better again are good enough to be in with the county panel. This is a quiet month now so one expects a lot of idle talk will be doing its rounds.

johnson is class and easily the best player in cavan. to let him off panel is nothing short of a scandal.

Not really surprised Johnston got the axe he didn't feature much for the Gaels at all in the league campaign and he didn't start all the championship games for them either and if you factor the number of times he's been injured it really shouldn't surprise us much. With Lyng it is a bit of a shock, he has played well. Granted he's unfortunate to have lost some of his pace but he plays an intelligent game and has a very effective boot on him. He has also notched up a few points and goals and created a lot this season for the Gaels.

With James Reilly lets not jump to conclusions. Remember years ago he was absent from the team for the early part of the campaign because he was unable to give complete commitment for work reasons. He is an honest man wouldn't be surprised if its for similar reasons.

With Cian Mackey, Dermot Sheridan and Gareth Smith lets be honest there is better players and more prospect out there. Mackey was an extremely good footballer in his minor and a few short years after but since has failed to live up and build on his reputation. Sheridan didn't perform in the county jersey in the last championship, I am unable to comment though on his performances with Mullahorn never seen them perform this year, only a league game against the Gaels. Gareth Smith I think is perhaps too old especially with younger talent from the u21s last year who have more pace and who can also score.

Hopefully the new panel will be made up of younger talent that will develop like Niall Smith, Murray and McDermott, Packie Leddy, Jack Brady, Oisin Moynagh and Kevin Meehan and plenty more that wasn't just under 21 this year! From my own club perspective I hope that Niall Gurhy and Robert Maloney-Derham were called up. Talented footballers with a lot to offer.

Johnstone has been our best scoring forward for the last number of years..Yes he had a quiet year by his standards and has had a few niggley injuries. Lyng has been dogged with injuries but got himself injury free this year and was one of Cavan Gaels best players this year..I really hope Seanie doesnt play for ANDREWS again. I Think he and the others deserve a little more respect.
