Who will succeed Tommy Carr?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

i've great time for Val andrews and would be happy to see him back but he's, in your words, a failure like the rest.

When he was here in Cavan he was building the future and he was doing a good job things were going in the right direction you have to agree, when Val came here he was after winning the sigersons cup for the second time and was a success.
I would rather have the devil we know that the devil we don't know and Val Andrews fits the bill.
He would also be familar with what we have and who are involved in clubs.

what people are afraid of is thet when good canditates are available we should be considering them rather than be in a situation where we are ready to interview with no suitable canditates on offer

I would say that Tom Reilly is doing it right and I bet all potential managers are top of his agenda and I would not be surprised if in fact he is talking to them all to see what they have to offer Cavan

Cavan should leave the past behind.

As they can't get PG , they should hold off any appointment for a month or so
If Kildare win Sam PG behind them they have a chance.
Geezer will take Cavan job
That way you get PG as well (even if not officially).

It has taken 8 years for some to realise who PG is?

IF Geezer takes it, you can bet within 3 years Cavan will be Ulster champions.

For an outside person to take on with managing Cavan they would want to be completely bonkers.

Out of their tree.

Cavan are big time losers, down and outs in the GAA world.

They should in fact withdraw from all national competitions for teh foreseeable future.

It's a complete waste of everyone's time and effort allocating fixtures to them.

Do the decent thing Cavan and pack it in.

buford

good advice coming from a Monaghan man, who by the way is too ashamed of his county to declare it on his username instead trying to hide behind the USA

your own county didn't set the world on fire this year

i have an admiration for your players and your manager despite your patetic posting

have a nice stoney grey soil day sir

So we are waiting until October to pick our next Manager?? But we have ppl taking note of promising players from our County Championship games been played??
So in other words we have our Selectors but not our Manager yet? Or are we just compiling a list of players for the Manager to work with? In other words the New Manager will get a list of players in October and told to work with them...
So in October the new Manager is put in place just before the closed season.. Great.
A sub Committee hands him a list of potential players who did ok at the county championship... great.
Is this Committee made up of potential Selectors or just CB officials?
So the new Manager has to ring round players in Dec and Jan askin them to commit to the County panel because some Committee saw them playing well in the local Championship.. The Manager has to convince these players they are Cavans future even though he hasnt seen them play...Powerfull Stuff...........
Challange matches the length and breath of the County will then be arranged for January with unfit players and on wet and icy pitches and these players will be asked to commit to the cause.
50 different players will be used in the McKenna cup ..Half will be discarded before the league in Feb as the Manager tries to convince the Gaels players to commit.
So you can see that the CB are going to be calling the shots all the time with regards to who is on the panel.
They are going to pick the panel... The Manager cant because he has no competitive football to go on..
So i see now why we wont have Pete McGrath.... because he wouldnt put up with this kind of nonsense..He would want to pick his own players from watching them in the lacal Championship...Thats why he threw his hat in the ring early...
This is and always has been a CB show.. They will pick the players and the Manager works with them.....If it wasnt well we would have a Manager in place now picking his own players from the County Championship Games...

I've heard great things about Grimley, Mc Geeney has done a fantastic job with Kildare, but I believe its Grimley pulling the strings behind the scenes. If you were to go for Mc Geeney you would have to get Grimley alongside him.

And why would McGeeney leave Kildare who are doing very well under him for Cavan who are way behind Kildare ? The partnership with Grimley is broken up since Grimley went to Monaghan to assist Banty anyway !!

You're dead right. He wouldnt leave them for a second rate setup like Cavan.

Mc geeney would be a dream manager. But expensive

We have better forwards than Kildare bar John Doyle & the rest he s instilled in them tackling tackling tackling.Never letting the opposition get away.

I think he ll move there next game is there last & he ll say he s brought them as far as he can

Dennman is right to believe in our players but I couldn't see McGeeney leaving Kildare

DENNMAN.......You must kno about forwards we havnt seen if you think ours are better than Kildare forwards..Kildare will probaly win the AllIreland so McGeeney has no chance of coming to Cavan. He would go to Armagh next id say.
See we are in no rush appointing a Manager just like last time and look at the bundle of joy we ended up with.
We are going to wait til October just before the close season then we can pick whats left after all the other Counties have their manager in place..
Then if we have a bad league campagin we can say the manager hadnt time ...usual stuff
Any way the CB will have a list of players for the manager to manage .
He will probaly be the YES man type who will allow the CB to pick his selectors and give him the runaround like before.
But with our record of late if he wins the odd game he will be a hero because we not use to winning much.
10 odd weekd since TC quit and we no nearer a Manager...
We took our time when we appointed TC a few years ago and look at the mess he got us in..
Hopefully at Convention time the clubs will have a massive clearout for once and for all and then we might get Cavan County and Club football back on the right road

"We have better forwards than Kildare"......This made me laugh. Ronan Sweeney, James Kavanagh and Johnny Doyle, sure they're only second rate compared to our sharpshooters.

The county board don't go to the trouble ogf getting a manager so they can interfere in team selection, why would they do that??

the county board is made up of football men and women who love their county and have worked through their clubs and learned how to legislate and run the affairs of their county's GAA. This is done on a voluntary basis. Some people think these people, who are democratically elected are some sort of a sinister but incompetent group. They are NOT and they go to great lengths to improve our lot. Lack of success may be attributable to mistakes the (changing) county board have made down the years but is also attributable to mistakes we have all made as players as club members etc. It's right that you challenge the county board but they are our representatives we put them there and I believe they do their best.

Ohhh Such Anger!!!

Kidare are like robots they play to a system like Trapatonis crew.If you think they ll win the All Ireland i ll def take that bet.Meaths run was poisoned with the huge score differance again the dubs & then the Louth saga.Kevin Reilly was a horror.kildare wont sore 7 from play points the next day....

Seanie johston is best forward in Ulster, micky lyng class act.Raymond galligan is good enough from what i ve seen this year,Barry reilly Kingscourt very classy & strong,Mackey are you telling me hes useless.Paul & philip Gunner,Mark Mc keever a brilliant brilliant player, nesty not too bad.

If i was a manager its the calibre of forwards that would entice me to the cavan Post..

I don t think you realise how bad Tommy Carr was sure he lost control altogether, what do you suggest we shoot the current squad, wake up will ye.God such tunnel vision no wonder the Geals walk it every year. How about yee get off the site & just let me spread my knowledge cause some of you posters sound like fans who want their money back.Ha ha

DENNMAN.Yes johnstone is one of the best forwards in Ulster. Lyng not much good if he wont play whether he class or not. Galligan or Mackey wernt impressive this year. I think Mackey need to realise he playing a team game. pass the ball . McKeever always some sort of injury.. Yeah of course they are all better than Kildare forwards...THATS WHY THEY WATCHIN ON TELLY AND KILDARE ARE IN SEMI??.....Wise up Denn man we a one man band.take johnstone away and we have NOTHING IN THE FORWARD LINE ONLY HEADLESS CHICKENS
