Now that Big Joe Kernan is available it should be a no brainer. Give the man the job now.

Folks

At this point in time there are a number of high profile managers available who over time would do a good job for the county, men who have won as managers at the highest level. If the county board are going to pick someone outside the county then they have the following to select from:

Kiernan
O'Mahoney
O'Dwyer and
McGrath

All of the above have won sam, some more than once, all would be doing Cavan football a service if they came on board. It's up to the county board to convince one of the above to come and take on the challenge. The above do not need to go through an interview process, they should be interviewing the county board to ascertain what they are prepared to do to put Cavan back on the football map. If the new manager is come from outside the county then lets make sure we get a top class man!

KildareBlue,

I don't think Joe Kernan will take it as he would be in opposition to his sons who are still playing with Armagh. He has said previously that he would not be in opposition to them in Ulster. Unless he has changed his mind. He was too expensive for Galway as he had his own men with him too and Galway could not afford him any longer.
Mick O'Dwyer i feel is out too. He lives in Waterford and can't see him taking on all that travelling at his age.

That leaves Pete Mc Grath and John O'Mahony from your list and i would say that McGrath would be favourite and cheapest for Cavan as well as being the most knowledgeable regarding Ulster football. BUT there might be dark horses as well !!

Now i see the name Paul "Pillar" Caffrey being linked with Cavan !! Had the Dubs super fit when in charge and highly motivated but didn't always get the rewards he deserved. His mother is from Cavan i believe and thats probably his connection. He would have learned a lot from his time with the Dubs !!

We seem to be obsessed with ex Dublin managers! Would we not be better with someone from Ulster that knows Ulster Football and who might help us to start beating the likes of Fermanagh and Antrim again??..Just have the feeling the Pillar is limited .. He proved that with Dubs..Would he comand the respect of every player?? club??.I dont think he is a strong enough person.

Just seen it myself slasher. You're right he does have family connections to Cavan. Wouldnt be a bad choice I suppose, he did very well with Dublin in Leinster.

Richiej,

again i agree. he would try his best but would be given the run around by C.B. and senior players. We need a no-nonsense man who is his own boss. Its Canavan or Mc Grath for me so far !!

I saw on the main board where county chairman, Tom Reilly, said that the committee to select the next Cavan manager will not be put in place until September and they expect to have the new man installed by October. I cannot understand the delay as many of the available prospective managers will surely be snapped up before that. The new man will not get the benefit of looking at players during the championship either. Whats your thoughts on this lads, is it a good or bad thing ?

I think it's a very good idea for its better to make sure that the man that is picked is what the county wants. I am led to believe that there are people out there covering all the matches and will have noted what they presume to be potential players for the future.
I hope that this is true and that they do their own thing looking at players and not listen to others to make a decision.
When the new man arrives he will be able to draw his conclusion as to what he has available to him from the reports laid out in front of him.
Fingers crossed the man we get will be what most people want and we can move forward in harmony.
Good man Tom Reilly and I hope you get a committee that are strong to do the business.??

sorry sean but I have to go with the auld slasher on this one

yes we have to be sure but when there is the available talent out there can we afford the delay? Hopefully we get the right man but we are risking letting him slip away!

All the names mentioned failed to complete their mission so should we Cavan Supporters and club members be satisfied with failures in one way or another.
You can say they have done this or that but they are free because they failed its that simple, I hope that our chairman is strong and does it right for having being put through what we have the Cavan Supports have been through its time to see the job being done right from the off, No point in reading on here next September get rid of the manager same old story so lets stop the games and do it right,

BRING BACK Val Andrews best man for the job. Sean

i've great time for Val andrews and would be happy to see him back but he's, in your words, a failure like the rest.

what people are afraid of is thet when good canditates are available we should be considering them rather than be in a situation where we are ready to interview with no suitable canditates on offer

New Cavan Manager

Who wants the job besides JK?

One man definetly not available as he manages 3 counties and a number of clubs (mostly by phone) is PG

Dublin set to offer PG 3 year deal from 2011 irrespective if they win Sam or not this year?

PG is presently No2 with you know who.

Cavan could not entice PG away Cavan could not do it but the Dubs might do it
