He was a disaster with us in 2004/2005, things where bad in Louth at the time but he brought it to a new low - How did he get the Job ?

1999 2001 he was doing a good job for Cavan so may your county were not willing to put in the work, To get results your players have to put in 110% for 9 Months

In 1999 we where hammered by Derry, in 2000 we where hammered by Derry, in 2001 we made a bit of progress by getting to the ulster final but we where on the easy side of the draw as both down and monaghan where way down below is in the pecking order then. Also progress was made with Andrews bringing in the likes of tommy prior to fb, james doonan to wing back and edward jackson to cb. but in general Andrews intercounty record is not very good

We will see. I suppose a better opinion will be had once we see who is involved and then what players are brought in. I can tell you now if its the same as we were well then you will be right but please god this will change come next December /January.

Andrews has no intercounty record apart from getting us to an Ulster Final. The Louth poster is correct . He did nothing for them.Just as the Roscommon posters were correct 2 years ago. But we like to learn the hard way in Cavan..

Do you know richiej I think you need to change your name to richie the forever knocker. Val Andrews if he does it his way will produce but not sure if he has not got control what way we will go but his way the only way is up. We are in division3 for Christ sake when he left we were comfortable mid table division1 what do you people want from him Val Andrews.
Will you be happy if we were relegated to division 4 so that you can say I told you so.
Can you in all fairness say that any of the people that were mentioned in this forum would have taken the job can you really say they would. I will say it as loud as I can and am allowed on this forum. NO MAN IN HIS RIGHT MIND WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE JOB ITS THAT SIMPLE.
Val Andrews has some unfinished business and I expect when we get promotion next year and a run in Ulster I will read your posts praising Val Andrews so come on stop being negative and give him a chance.
Once we see the full management and backroom personnel I am sure I for one will know what direction we are going.
If he Val Andrews gets rid of the what I call the hangers on's it will be the first positive step but again if he keeps them well same old story.
I once again will say I am very happy with Val Andrews captaining the ship but I will reserve my opinion on who is beside him at this moment in time.
Still a few more positions to be filled and it would be nice to see Pat the trainer he had with him in 1999 maybe Paul McCorry along side him and if he could get these people Paul could train the U21 and the junior team as well, it will be intresting to see who he has with him?????

Is mise Sean O'Rinn

"NO MAN IN HIS RIGHT MIND WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE JOB"

Who else was asked Sean ? Was Pete McGrath asked ? Was any new prospective manager with an All Ireland medal in his pocket asked (look how McGeeney is doing). I would love to know !! Richiej in all fairness is an avid Cavan supporter and wants only the best we can get and is very concerned about Val Andrews appointment as are many more. We are not knocking Val but we feel that the C.B. should have gone for a man with a proven pedigree and plenty of success under his belt !! Val has no success at county level but hopefully he will have before he leaves Cavan. The problem is that many believe that we did not get as good as we could have and the lack of information coming from the C.B. is not helping to allay fears that the same old story is not happening over and over again i.e. anyone will do Cavan !!
I personally believe that many would have taken the job and there were plenty available !!

Have to agree with Sean. Andrews did a good job last time and with the right local men involved (here's hoping) we won't have to wait two years for him to discover his best team. Progress can be made if we get all the best players in the county playing - we haven't seen that since the Coleman era in my opinion.

When we had a man with All Ireland medals in his back pocket from Ulster what did cavan do to him. YES YOU GOT IT IN ONE HE WAS SHAFTED BIG TIME.
Accept what we have now and give him a chance thats all that is asked from us all.
I cannot answer who our chairman spoke but I am sure he spoke with many??????

SEAMNNORINN..........Take the blinkers off and leave your obsession with Val Andrews aside just for ONE minute.
I answered and agreed with a Louth Posters assesment of Val Andrews term as Louth Manager in 2004 and 2005..He was correct.
As i said previously i have no problem with Andrews but i felt we could have aimed higher and got better. Is it not coincidence that McGrath expressed an intrest in management the same week TC quit?

You talk of unfinished business that Andrews has since 2001..You fail to see its going to be a totally different panel from 2001 so how could it be unfinished business?,.New players are in a new era.
You also fail to see that other than an Ulster final appearence in 2001 Andrews term in charge was quite ordinary. In those years National league divisions were restructured and even so we still only managed 6/14 wins against the likes of sligo, carlow, longford waterford ect. In one particular year even Carlow finished higher than us in the division.
As other posters have pointed out we got some serious drubbings in the Ulster Championship against Derry in two consective years.
So why should second time around be any different??
This time last year SEAN you were shouting about giving TC another year.....He will deliver you kept saying..When he left you were saying he wasnt your choice..Double standards id say..Well TC was never my choice and he proved me right...Lets hope Andrews proves me wrong.

On another thread you gave your opinions for the quater finals of the Senior Championship.
The two obvious ones Gaels and Mullahorn you got right..Despite Ramor drawing with the Gaels in the group stages you picked Lacken.....strange.
Kingscourt /Gowna you decided if McCabe played Gowna would win by 1/2 if not Kingscourt by 3.....Talk about sitting on the fence?..Its as McCabe could win it on his own.
Despite all the football you are privilaged to watch in Breffni park your knoweledge could be written on the back of a postage stamp..
Maybe because of your position you have to agree with all things said by the big wigs around Breffni park.Thats understandable. Me after watching 40 odd years of Cavan football wit a net return of 2 ulster Champoinships wins and 5 final defeats like to call it the way i see it regardless of who it upsets.

Andrews in my opinion is not good enough to manage any senior inter county team. His track record at inter county level shows that..
Just as TCs track record showed he wasnt good enough either..I dont blame the managers.. They are trying their best..........I BLAME THE PPL WHO PUT THEM THERE.

Were you at the matches this week end gone buy.
I said an easy match for the Gaels I got that wrong for they were very lucky??

The kingscourt/Gowna match I did say if D.McCabe started they would beat Kingscourt but if not I would go with Kingscourt did I not.
D.McCabe if fit would have been a hard man to mark.

The lacken match the width of a post deprived lacken of at least a draw, an open goal missed these little things decide matches. If I like you could pick the winners every week I would be a very rich man.

seanorinn..Living in the UK i dont see that many Club Games but hope to see the Semis in Sept. But i have seen Cavan Gaels , Kingscourt play recently.
In my opinion the biggest threat to the Gaels is themselves..I dont feel they are as good as in previous years and feel overconfidence or complacency their big problem. They remind me of Cork in so far as they dont seem to know their best 15.
All that said if they hit the ground running from the start of a match they will be hard to peg back.

Kingscourt have been impressive in the two games i saw them in earlier in the year. They knocked up some big scores and i see them as the Gaels nearest challangers. I have seen Mullahoran or Ramor this year yet but Mullahoran v Gaels are always closely contested and the form book goes out the window. Its who wants it most.

A New Champion would prob benifit Cavan football in the long run. I know thats no consolation to Cavan Gaels supporters but they have set the bench mark over the last 10 years both at underage and Senior level and its up to other clubs to strive for that level.
I still feel Cavan Gaels are a slight notch above the rest even though they might not be as good as in previous years..
I Will go for a Gaels win against Mullahoran maybe even after a replay...... Kingscourt by 2 or more against Ramor..
So there you go seann never say i didnt give you a tip!!

758085 Seanoroinn,

Do you know if the new management team will be given a free role. Will they choose their own selectors or will the C.B. appoint some selectors for them ? It will be interesting to see if some of "the lost players" return !!
Cavan_Slasher , 27/08/2010 at 16:42

Well like you I don't know the answer to that. Two managers well I would say just one more selector no more required. Lost players can you name them please and it will be intresting to see who they will bring back.
How do you determine a good selector may I ask. Would you say a person who can see beyond the club you play for the parents you come from your education standing or the person that sees you for the ability you have.
I have watched managers over the last two months and it baffles me at times the decisions they make when it is Blatantly obvious where the problem are but they just don't seem to see them so I hope that Val Andrews does not bring in any of these people to stand along side them???

ME I am in favour of getting rid of at least 20 of the current panel shock but the truth.

I expect James Reilly will be back for one so that is the start of the spine or backbone??

sean o rinn check the date of your post. proves andrews was in the hot seat last August .. AND HE HAS DONE NOTHING SINCE
