some of these posts are off the mark.val and terry are here now for 3 years.lets all get behind them otherwise its division 4 football and worst team in ulster.i dont always agree with sean o rinn but he is right when he says building the spine with mckiernan givney etc.can we forget this crap about qualified coaches;sean boylan was a junior hurler before he managed meath.ask boylan cody micko etc about coaching courses and listen to their reply.the hard work is done in schools and by commited volunteers in every club in country.we have a problem with underage teams in cavan, how many teams won a game in first 3 divisions at feilein cavan?none maybe its time we started u 14 academys like the galway co board have set up this year.sorry about rant but i feel that by starting now from scratch will we have a senior team to be proud of in years to come.finally i hope new management team get rid of some of the deadwood that has being lying around middle of field for past few seasons

Well I wish the new management every success. As ive said previously i think we could have done better. But they are there now so lets get behind them and not make judgement on them until we see how things are this time next year.
My greatest wish is that they restore some pride into wearing the blue jersey.Something that apart from the 2nd half of the Wicklow game hasnt been there for a few years..We in Cavan are well use to getting beat but its the lack of pride, passion this past few years that got up supporters noses, not the defeats.
I hope also that ALL CLUBS including Cavan Gaels will try and entice its players to commit to the Panel.
Yes there will be players from all clubs who cant commit through maybe studies or work commitments but i sincerely hope nobody drops out for footballing reasons.
Hopefully our main aim will be promotion from div3 and now that we have the management team in position we have a headstart especially with the quarter finals of the Championship on this weekend.
So there are no excuses now to have some sort of a panel formed by the time the championship is over.
When supporters see the likes of Down, Kildare, Roscommon ,teams that were at our level and below us 2 years ago playing in Croke Park its only natural that they want the same for Cavan.
It can be achieved through hard work and more importantly everybody working together.
The last 2 years have been a total disaster..Lets hope there improvement around the corner..Its time we started passing other Counties instead of them passing us out

Folks, a three year term with a review after two, hopefully, they will serve their full term and bring success back to the county. Best of luck to both Va and Terry.

Seanoroinn,

Do you know if the new management team will be given a free role. Will they choose their own selectors or will the C.B. appoint some selectors for them ? It will be interesting to see if some of "the lost players" return !!

Hurler40, where are you going making a statement like that. No one on this board is having a go at Val or Terry but its a disucssion board and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I wish the new management all the best and fully support them, that they would not have been my choice for the post is irrelevant.

Also, I pity your ignorance if you think that having qualified coaches are not needed

Well like you I don't know the answer to that. Two managers well I would say just one more selector no more required. Lost players can you name them please and it will be intresting to see who they will bring back.
How do you determine a good selector may I ask. Would you say a person who can see beyond the club you play for the parents you come from your education standing or the person that sees you for the ability you have.
I have watched managers over the last two months and it baffles me at times the decisions they make when it is Blatantly obvious where the problem are but they just don't seem to see them so I hope that Val Andrews does not bring in any of these people to stand along side them???

ME I am in favour of getting rid of at least 20 of the current panel shock but the truth.

I expect James Reilly will be back for one so that is the start of the spine or backbone??

alonso have we not had qualified coaches for years now?what is the result ? as far as i am concerned its a new regime from bottom to top and everything should be up for discussion.its time to look at structures at underage and adult leval and carry out a root and branch analysis as to why we are falling behind rest of ulster.all im saying is there are loads of hardworking people doing trojan work in cavan who dont have a coaching badge and are every bit as capable

As there are more than 25 players involved in the panel it really would be unfair for me to name five but here are a few I would keep.
Dermot Sheridan
Ronan Flannagan
David Givney.

There are fringe players about the panel as well and who knows maybe they might jump on board next term.

I think we are heading into good days for I think it's now time that youth were brought in and matured into senior players even at the expense of the U21 and Juniors.
There are some cracking players in the U21 panel so I am confident for our new management team to field a team of players that we the supporters can be proud off.

It would never happen but yes I would like many others for I feel as I have no affiliation to anyone so I would be able to pick players without being biased.

I will try again to reply differently.

If the Gaels had continued with the softly softly approach they would have lost but once they introduced the physicality into their game Cuchullains could not handle them.
This is why I suppose Cavan Gaels are the champions and they have the experience,

Nice to see Val Andrews and Terry Hyland sitting in the stand these last few evenings.
They will be watching the players with both potential and with none. The one thing I am not happy about is the drones that are starting to Congregate around them and I am hoping to god that Val Andrews will move these people on other wise we will have learned nothing from the last few years.
