Who will succeed Tommy Carr?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Val Andrews may have won a HATRICK OF SIGERSONS in Kerry but in fairness my mother could have managed Joyce.. Donnellan.. Moynihan.. Mike Frank.. McGuinness.. No great achievement there. He's a very very average manager and he'll be looking after a very very average bunch of players

I have seen Val Andrews goe about his business here in Cavan GAA and he is the only man for the job. Work unfinished after the shambles of an AGM where an executive spoke for his club against him after voting in block for him to stay, and anyone with the Character and principles of Val Andrews did the right thing for there was no point in going forward not knowing who was sticking a knife in your back.
Tom O'Reilly our chairman has done a good job for me and I am well pleased about what has gone down.
Roll on a bit of pride and passion once again.

no excuses now. its down to players now to committ to cavan.while andrews may not have been my choice ;hyland was and lets give them a chance to bring cavan forward.word of warning though.andrews felt he had unfinished business before he left last time and some players may find it hard to adjust to his scientific approach.ie dietery and fittness is very much on his agenda.best of luck val and terry.

Glad you said a very average bunch of players and I feel if he does it like he did when he came here a lot of these very average players will be history, This is where I hope that he has at least 75% control for if its a fifty fifty situation with T Hyland I am not sure who would be moved on. If it was me but its not at least 18 of the current panel if not more would be moved on and build up around the likes of Garoid McKiernan, David Givney Midfield. Jamers Relly back in goal and lets build up our spine and then we can work on the branches/ribs.

I don't know what to think now as it looks certain that Val Andrews and Terry Hyland have been offered the Cavan job !! I know Val Andrews as a very decent, hard-working and conscientious man and i think Terry is the same. As we all know Val was here before and may have got the wrong end of the stick as indeed he did elsewhere, Louth got rid of him through "Player Power" just when he was on the verge of getting them playing good football.

My main concern is that he has not had any success anywhere and i feel that it is again more of the same for Cavan. I think we needed a winner and its back to where we were prior to Tommy Carr's appointment i.e. a lot of promise but nobody with actual success for the players to look up to !

Silly, silly Cavan County Board. The effects of the fleadh has obviously warped some peoples judgement. Please, lets not do anything hasty until we have had a week to sober up and gather our collective senses.

Wise up fella we have got a quality person in Val Andrews and Tom O'Reilly has got it right, don't panic for the goods will be delivered. Division 2 I expect we will be in after next years national league,

Sean, your optimisim is to admired, hopefully the new team will turn the tide over the coming years. Rome was not built in a day and it will take time to turn this around. Val Andrews was treated very badly in 2001, If Jason's quick free in the second half of the Ulster final hit the back of the net rather than going just wide we would have been Ulster Champions back then.

great decision i think. 2 very well respected men in cavan. Ye are foolin yourselfs to think ye could have any other manager with the history required. the reality is that we have a very average group of players but a lot of them are young and with time can be developed to compete with ulsters best. Remember ulster football is not at the standard it was a few years ago and there is oppurtunity there for new teams to come through as down have shown this year.
TH will have a good knowledge of club football and young players and with the standards VA will bring I think it will work out in the end.
Most important thing - we need to give these 2 at least 3-4 years.

I really really hope you are right but I have yet to be convinced by the aforementioned duo.

I am concentrating on the one that stands out Val Andrews and he will deliver. I have 110% confidence in him to bring them players and supporters back to enjoy some good football once again.
I am looking forward to watching the training once again and to try and learn more about how the players and the game ticks.
Happy Day's
. Sean.

Agree fully with JonSmith who says Andrews had very little success with a better panel in 1998. His record up to an Ulster Final appearance in 2001 was quite shocking in both league and championship if any1 cares to check it out.His record also with Louth in 2004 AND 2005 was just as bad..Whether the chairman thinks he is the right man does not count for anything if the clubs dont ratify the appointment..If the clubs ratify the appointment well let Andrews at it and good luck to him..Clubs now have a big part to play in getting all their best players to comitt.I See SeanORinn never mentioned Seanie Johnstone in his few players to build a team around.Maybe he thinks he is not good enough???..
Anyone know if this double act will have selectors?? Or are the chairman and Secetary going to have a say?
If Andrews is appointed are any of the CB officials who were in office when Andrews was sacked going to resign??

Thank you kildare blue happy day's are on there way back I have a very good feeling about this for sure.
Val Andrews is strong the only mistake I felt he made was the Saturday prior to the Down match when he dropped Charlie Clarke from the panel, this fellow had worked very hard and was then a good player with ton's of ability but times have moved on and I am sure he will have learnt from that.

Folks

Give the new team a chance and by a chance I mean a year or two to start improving the situation. They inherit a team who were beaten out the gate by Cork in the qualifiers. I like so many would have preferred Pete McGrath, but it was not to be

SEANNORINN...............U really are getting carried away with V Andrews....He is average. His record over the last 12 years proves that. Results dont lie and at the end of the day thats how every manager in the country is judged.RESULTS. He has done nothing special at Senior level in ANY County yet. IF Cavan clubs ratify his appointment well he will get his chance.IF they dont well the search goes on..Surely every club has still yet to hold its own club meeting to discuss the appointment?? Or do CB club delegates vote according to their personel feelings or that of their clubs??

We were heading in the right direction before he left over a certain person who shall remain nameless. I have no doubt we would have won an Ulster title by now had he stayed.
I am very excited by the return of this man for I saw what was happening while he was there, he is quality and the average will be removed I am saying with confidence, roll on the good day's.
I am also predicting that he will get an unanimous response to having him back from most of the clubs I say most for I know one club will vote against him but that is fine.

There is a Full County Board meeting for THIS Thursday when the CB expect to ratify Val Andrews appointment.. THIS DOESNT LEAVE CLUBS MUCH TIME TO HAVE THEIR CLUB MEETINGS TO INFORM THEIR CB DELAGATES WHICH WAY TO VOTE..........ANY VIEWS??

Richie we called for quick appointment of a manager and we're getting it, the CB I'm sure are keen to get the clubs to decide before the quarter finals so fair play to them. It shouldn't be hard for the clubs to contact members to get the general consensus anyways.

Richiej,

Yes there is very little time given to clubs to react to the proposed appointments and i wonder if this is deliberate !!

Seanoroinn,

What makes you so sure that Val will succeed as he has failed elsewhere ? How are you so confident he is the man for the job ? Maybe there is a few skeletons in the cupboard from his previous stint that could lead to trouble in the near future and set us back even further. There is an old saying "success breeds success" and Val has had very little if any at county level !! The more i think of it the more i feel that this is another big mistake !!

Sure look, we may as well be happy. Andrews at least has a bit of personality about him, Carr had about as much enthausiasm as a fireman in the artic circle.

like you with Terry Hyland so at least you got your man.

I hav eni input what so ever but I saw where we going when he was here so if its the same set up I expect we will go places. One step at a time this is how its done so there are two men in place so will that not do you posters. I am very pleased as I said that Val is our new manager and now if we can get the other half Pat Flannagan I think his name was we will be doing well, also if we could get Paul McCorry on board we would have it nailed.
As you can see at least I for one am happy.
