Just heard about the Battle of Ballinagh. What is it with some of their so called supporters. They have a really talented side and its such a disgrace that a few holigans are ruining their prospects at Senior level with these incidents. Some have clearly not learned from the Fingal Ravens incident. Kilnaleck Blue (Cavan) - Posts: 25 - 23/06/2008 19:04:52 36751 Link 0 |
Thats twice this year Ballinagh have made the national newspapers and brought the spot-light on Cavan football for all the wrong reasons. As the last poster says, a good team, but a dodgy support -a bit like Millwall. If young McDermott doesn't get to play for Cavan it will be an even sadder mess. I suppose, when football is at a low point in the county, cynical rubbish like this will prevail. Con Cavan (Cavan) - Posts: 894 - 24/06/2008 08:56:54 36928 Link 0 |
It is a sad day when these sort of things are happening in the first place but i have to say the quality of referreeing in Cavan is very poor indeed. I must say no supporter has the right to attack the referee no matter what decisions where made during the game but i reckon referee's need more coaching on the basic rules of the game. At the end of the day these players have been training since January so its a bit unfair to ban them from all competitions for six months I don't know the Full story but there has to b reasons for such behaviour at a club game maybe the ref was been fair??? who knows ???? Well thumper where u at the game no need for comments like that unless u witnessed the event, by the way there's always two sides to every story!!!!! D_Dude (Cavan) - Posts: 360 - 24/06/2008 10:54:12 37035 Link 0 |
Sorry D_Dude but I think thumper is dead right. I wasn't at the game but I didn't need to be. There are indeed two sides to every story...but no matter how many sides there are to any story, any supporter who walks up to a referee and strikes him, is an idiot and in my view should get a life ban from the sport. There is no excuse! What a thug! It's a very sad day when you see the likes of this happening. I hope that person is extremely embarrassed and remorseful for the position he's put "his" club in now. Have to agree that there is always two sides to every story but unfortunately one of those sides usually turns out to be Ballinagh.... I know that it is hard to have lads not playing football because of one hot head regardless of what kind of game the referee had but unfortunately I believe there is an underlying problem in Ballinagh club - with some of the players whose disciplinary records are well noted (one year I believe it was at 10 red cards for one player in particular) and with some of their fans... Several times over the last couple of years, I really felt disgusted by some of their behaviour, a ballinagh umpire lying to a referee about what a U-16 said to him to get him sent off... and before everyone starts, I know our own club aren't angels but this isn't the first time this year Ballinagh have had to answer for a case like this CeltMan (Cavan) - Posts: 101 - 24/06/2008 11:45:17 37094 Link 0 |
D Dude..Gerry Sheridan has played senior football in cavan for 20 years he played senior for Cavan for ten, he's captained us in the Ulster Championship..I don't think he needs any coaching in the basic rules of the game from you or anyone else..from what I've seen of him he refs it like he played it..Hard but Fair...what happened last week is unacceptable.. Its not that fair after all that Balinagh's antics are going to have an effect on the league. Why aren't they just deducted maybe 6 points for remaining 3 games. Belturbet and Castlerahan are going to get 2 handy points which is going to take them out of the relegation battle. Heard a balinagh uimpire give them a point which was about 1 yard wide the weekend. If thats how they play they deserve to go down. Cuchallains are going to get 2 points also which is nearly going to guarantee them top 2 spot - not right. jimjim (Cavan) - Posts: 31 - 24/06/2008 12:36:04 37160 Link 0 |
He may have but as i said there is always two sides to every story i've been to some club games in Cavan and the quality of referring is poor and there seems to b a lot if bitternees amongest clubs In Cavan, the agro associated with the game on wednesday didn't come round for no reason u know extra coaching would do no harm. But i agree no one should attack a ref during or after a game no matter wot happens i just feel bad for such a young and up and coming team ballinagh are a bit harsh banning them for 6 months most of their players are decent footballers just in it for the love of the game and have worked hard to win the Ulster and Intermediate championship over the last year to make it to senior and it seems due to some supporters loosing their cool thats all lost now wot a pity awe well!! Its a joke that these players who have been trainin since January miss out championship its not a bit wonder why were are loosing talented young players in the county through other temptatins this wouldnt happen in any other sport wasp (Cavan) - Posts: 7 - 24/06/2008 12:47:01 37167 Link 0 |
From a club footballer in Cavan and someone working in Dublin I have no sympathy for the Ballinagh club. They are the talk of the country and have make a joke of cavan gaa once again. This is not the 1st or even 2nd time the club has been involved in something like this. I really think they deserve everything they got and hope the suspension isnt lifted. jonjoe46 (Cavan) - Posts: 18 - 24/06/2008 14:13:35 37262 Link 0 |
almost sure mcdermott can play sunday. Club and county dont overlap anymore. not since 2002. Would be a shambles if wasnt allowed play, had no involvement in either tabacle Larry4ever (Clare) - Posts: 32 - 24/06/2008 14:22:13 37275 Link 0 |
Balllinagh up to there old tricks again! Will they ever learn? does anybody know if mc dermot an podge reilly can play for county team?? and does this suspension mean ballinagh will be relegated to intermediate championship next year?? miwadi (Cavan) - Posts: 51 - 24/06/2008 14:24:17 37278 Link 0 |
I think the county board really need to sit down and acess the situation with ballinagh and the current state of cavan football. Ballinagh will no doubt make an appeal but in my opinion there better walking away and taking their punishment for their small minority of supporters but i still think there is a lot of bitterness in football in Cavan and this is something we need to fizz out it was probably a factor last week unfortunately. Can anybody justify how it is appropriate to punish a bunch of lads, training and busting a gut since January last year (no break due to involvement in Intermediate club competiton) for something a hooligan has done. Disgrunted Goat (Cavan) - Posts: 22 - 24/06/2008 15:10:25 37332 Link 0 |
It is totally appropriate. If attitudes like this are allowed contnue in the GAA it will be a sport not worth attending or allowing kids particiapte in. breifneblue (Cavan) - Posts: 58 - 24/06/2008 15:29:44 37353 Link 0 |
