Cavan swept into the semi-final of the Ulster MFC after defeating Fermanagh 2-16 to 1-10 in Clones yesterday.

Cavan were only behind once in the contest when a first-half goal by Fermanagh's Shaun Quigley put his side ahead after the Breffni men had opened a two-point lead. A minute later, Cavan were back in front when full-forward Paul O'Connor touched in after a goalmouth scramble.

Cavan led at half-time by 2-5 to 1-6, their other goal coming from Jack Brady in the eighth minute.

The opening 10 minutes of the second half was even but Cavan still led by three points entering the final quarter. Fermanagh reduced the deficit to two with a point by Kane Connor in the 56th minute but from there to the finish Cavan took control and hit seven points without reply to run out easy winners.

Play a strong Armagh team now. Sould be a good game but Armagh to shade it.

Delighted with both the result and the display, very promising indeed. I'm assuming that the Tyrone influence in the background team is helping. Might be a lesson here in terms of deploying expertise. It would be nice to think that the senior board might ensure that the minor board have everything they need to support this group of players and mgnt team. While I will be at the game on the 12th June to support the seniors, my preference is for a winning minor campaign. Something that we can really build on for the future.

one Ulster win in three years and we have something, come on they played Fermanagh maybe if they go on and win something you can shout but come on don't get carried away.
The dogs on the street have been saying that Coyle is just standing in until June so that the minor manager can take over the Cavan Gaels when they are finished so much for his confidence in his minor team one would say?? don't get me wrong I am also delighted we are trough to the next round, congratulations to the boy's in Blue. respect

Good win. The first round with minors is always tricky to negotiate with nerves and its the biggest games of their sporting careers to date. But the lads played well. But!!, its fermanagh. Theres nothing won yet. If the lads are like what i think they are like, they will keep their heads down and improve for the next day. Armagh up next, reigning ulster and all-ire champions. They also beat cavan in the league, i think. They will be up against it, but wouldnt rule out a suprise.

Ok Dr Dolittle i suggest ya go back to your dogs and ask them to repeat what they said cause ya haven't a clue. A typical statement with no facts or anything to back it up. The year before last Cavan beat Antrim and Armagh before losing to Tyrone so get your facts right before ya come on here tying to take the good out of things. Apart from that, well done to Cavan and it's still early days but to belittle Fermanagh is very unfair as there where high expections in Fermanagh for that team after their best league campaign in years where they defeated Derry and Tyrone along the way. There is plenty of room for improvement which will be needed to overcome this Armagh team but they are there and we'll be there and lets hope there's a few more days out yet to come. Woof Woof!

Respect, no need to worry. Having supported Cavan through many years, I learned a long time ago not to get carried away with an isolated win. Three major disappointments stick out. The 83 Ulster final defeat to Donegal when Derek McDonnell gave a fantastic display at FF. Being narrowly beaten in the Ulster Semi by Derry in Eugene McGee's last year. A cracking Cavan team. And the 97 semi v Kerry which we left behind us. Anyway, I digress into the past like all Cavanmen. In terms of the future, I wouldn't be too disappointed to see that Manager head back to the club scene if your info is correct. He still has a lot to learn. A club junior title is a bit isolated on your coaching career, even if you were a fine player in your day.

Just back with some more FACTS for you's as you seem to lacking in that department. Mickey Graham has won a Minor club Championship with a Cavan Gaels team that had never won anything before that and he has won an Intermediate Championship as manager of Drumalee as well as his Junior Championship with Butlersbridge. Chatting to a couple of dogs i met out and the street there and they say Graham is primed to win the Junior with the Bridge again next year!

Thanks for that begby. His coaching cv is less isolated now and more impressive. Hopefully his next direction will be to the senior ranks rather than junior. It would be nice to see him succeed where others have failed at Ulster club level. That would certainly set him apart. Meanwhile, I'm sure he'll continue to max his input to the minors. He has good people around him so you'd never know.

1974 was the last time Cavan won a minor Ulster title that's 36 years to this year a long time. M. Graham is in his third year as manager of the minors and if he fails to win Ulster he will have failed no matter what he does at club level he will be judged at what he has done in County level. Tom Carr his head was on the block after less than 8 months or so why I wonder when you see the plaudits handed out to this man M.Graham should Tom Carr not get the same plaudits.
The championship does not start until after the qualifiers once that is over its then classed as the championship. If he fails to beat Armagh later on this month he will like the others before be a failure but will he be classed as one I don't think so by the way people talk about him. He had a quality team last year and left it behind him by bad decision making just like Brendan Nelligan, Tony Brady. Jody Clarke. I hope for the sake of Cavan football that they do go on and win Ulster that will do for starters.
I expect that this post will be up the Cavan Gaels blinkered supporters noses who think the Reilly's the Murray's the Grahams the Dunnes are the messiahs of Cavan Football, come down from your high horses and take a proper look at ground level. Respect

Well lets look forward and not backwards lets get behind this minor team and hope they go on and win Ulster. Cavan needs a bit of success so lets start at the minors for if the minors are doing well it seems to pick the seniors up a notch or two going forward. Sean

Yes indeed Sean. I'll agree to leave this subject for the moment on such a positive note.

We'll have a Double header in Clones( or maybe Croker?) this year as, i hope, Sean is correct and Our minors will inspire the Seniors!
