What point putting in players and then contradicting yourself. If you reckon Sheridan too loose for full back then do not put him there.

1. Fintan Reilly
2. Martin Cahill Full back I don't think so, half back line only
3. Dermot Sheridan
4. Paul Brady Corner back I don't think so halfback line only no other place.
5. Ronan Flanagan A bit small but plays a clever game so maybe yes here
6. Eoin Mc Guigan Well he has been playing well and is strong when I mentioned last year that he was a player to wacth I was laughed yet he is in your 15
7. John McCrutcheon/ Dane O'Dowd
8. Ray Cullivan " As much as I like Ray I feel that he needs to keep focused and keep control of is emotions
9. David Givney ( If we go out any game with Galligan or Walsh we'll be bet) In fairness to Galigan he does put in the mileage in training in his own time, All he needs really is to stop listening to others and concentrate on getting his game together, for remember if you blow them up enough they think they are there??10. Cian Mackey Well on his performances one has to say a deffo started here.
11. Gareth Smith My jury is out on this fellow reminds me of Gallagher a few years back, How will he manage once S. Johnston is back conflicts here regarding frees and playmakers.
12. Mark McKeever
13. Bud Fitz - Brilliant with U21's I pencilled in this fellow last year and a few laughed at me but here we are he is being mentioned in the starting line up
14. Declan McKiernan - Playing well with K'dra and Cavan U21's . Deserves a go?
I mentioned this lad last year and I still stand by what I said then this felow if he keeps focused will be a star of the future

This is a fairly good team , best yet!

I think you have done well here with your team in general and I have added a few comments.
I think the team that starts again Mayo in the challenge will be the team that will start in June

Sean, thats why there is a manager - to give each player their roll in the team. T Carr will decide who has the play-maker roll and who takes the frees/45's and penaltys. Smith and Johnston both have to start, we cant afford to drop one or the other over a conflict of who will take the frees, their both too valuable from open play.

Sean Johnston is not a playmaker in any guise, he is a point-scorer and a damn fine one at that! Dont get them confused, NO conflict

I for one am not confused but it takes more than one to win a match "facts"
So are you saying then there is no point in putting the number 11 shirt on him? for to wear that shirt you have to be a playmaker, have I got it wrong????
He did say that he would like to wear this shirt did he not????

Agreed Fallout.. We should be relishing having these two high quality free takers. As for saying their styles are the same I don't see how this applies, Nesty is surely the perfect playmaker to give Johnston good enough ball to work with. Good combination no?

sorry sean I didn't realise that Johnston was Player/Manager....
I'd like to wear the number 11 jersey too - doesn't mean the manager will pick me there. think we've had too much of that over the years with players dictating how they want to play, where they want to play and who they want to play for.
I'm sure there are players in every county that would rather play in a different position but they do as they are asked by the manager.

Nesty plays on the forty for his club with the 3 Brogans and J Sherlock also in their attack - i think that says enough about his best position and his ability as a play maker

I Think Smith is the type of player johnstone needs and they can easily play together..It would only happen in Cavan where two good forwards couldnt play together on the same team! Johnstone is a corner forward .......... end of story.. A Mickey Linden type who can take on his man... turn... score.. with both feet at speed..What he has been lacking in recent years is someone of Smiths type who can supply acurate passes to him and switch play in both directions..I actually think it will work a treat with Smith on the 40 and johnstone in the corner or even in fullforward close to goal...Free taking duties dont matter.. look at galway hurlers.. Joe Canning now doesnt take as many as he did.. Isnt it great to have 2 free takers in case one has an off day... We in Cavan need to remember its a team game... Its not about glory hunters ...Im only sorry Lyng not there.. Id love to seen him play as and attacking half back..He a tough tackling player who could be used in the half back line to carry the ball at speed out of defence while on the attack and speedy to get back to defend...A great link player between defence and attack would have been his best position..

I agree with richiej, Johnston is a bigger threat the closer he is to the goal, pity about Lyng been out - not a bad idea to have him playing from deep but we have to make do with what we have...

Sean, I was just making the point that you seem to think that just because Johnston says he wants to play in that position that he should be played there (eventhough he hasn't played that position at all). de facto making him player/manager or maybe to be more acurate player/selector.

Sean, by writing 'He Johnston said he would like to play in the number 11 jersey ""Facts"" it comes across that you are implying that johnston should play CF just cause he wants too.

Well he was well marshalled last year in Ulster and the qualifiers maybe if he was in the 40 it would give him more space, He has tons of ability of that
there is no doubt so its an option don't you think, what's the point in having quality stifled when you can open the field of play to him.
I personally think he would be better out from the full forward line for his talent is a lot of the time taken out to the corner, just my opinion remember,
it might be well noting that there are many who can play in the 40 if asked.
