Since the championships were restructured the club game in Mayo has become weaker not stronger. Has it made any difference in the players representing the county? Has it improved club football in any way? I can't quite recall what the official reasoning was for chnging the c'ships a few years back but I for one cannot see many if any positives coming from these changes.I'm not so naive to think that these changes have brought no positives but footballing positives?I agree that is particluarly hard now to win the junior c'ship but usually if a squad prepares well and applies itself correctly anyone of the stronger junior teams has a chance of winning it. I was at the Ardnaree v Islandeady game in Crossmolina and was impressed with the general level of fitness of the two junior teams. Standard was average but no worse or better than most club games. For two teams that are seperated by a couple of divisions it would be difficult for an outsider to choose who was playing out of the top division.Islandeady won by a point in a strange game that was dictated by the weather. If teams are to climb the tables / grades it takes alot of hard work at Bord na nOg which usually but not always guarantees some success. the neale or islandeady.. who'll win..? new comer (Mayo) - Posts: 121 - 03/10/2008 04:30:16 113056 Link 0 |
its going to be a great game between the neale and islandeady, its a very hard one to predict, while isleadeady will probaly be relegated from Division One this year they did give genuine tests to the senior clubs winning 2 games in the league and coming close to beating others, while The neale have also shown serious improvement this year and have been very impressive. Its too close to call paddyogall (Mayo) - Posts: 5110 - 03/10/2008 10:29:22 113136 Link 0 |
the neale to win with a bit to spare.. islandeady lost 3 lads to oz since last year.. south boys have too much up front for a pretty average islandeady goalie and full back line... new comer (Mayo) - Posts: 121 - 03/10/2008 20:06:51 113555 Link 0 |

Some one on this thread claims that Islandeady lost three players to ``Oz``.For the record who are they? Another poster sarcastically refers to ``Caherlistrane``because of the two Monahans playing. Interesting to note that neither did anything sensational yesterday against Islandeady. It is fair to point out also that Caherlistrane seem to have done o.k without them. The Neale have a really excellent full forward line. However both Killala and Lahardane are strong defensively and both are very big and mobile through the middle of the field. How will the other semi go this weekend? Killala or Lahardane? YA!OK! (Mayo) - Posts: 83 - 07/10/2008 22:13:50 115185 Link 0 |
killala or lahardane should be fairly tight. killala by 2 maybe.hard to call.killala have been there. lahardane are new to this stage of championship.killala have some top class players where as lahardane do not have the same high profile players. Even though lahardane seemed to have a good win over ballina at da weekend. i would think killala should start as favourites. ironman (Mayo) - Posts: 131 - 08/10/2008 00:11:02 115215 Link 0 |

Killala will rightly start as favourites this weekend, but Lahardane are on top form and will provide tough opposition. This Lahardane team has a good miuxture of youth and experience, and have produced some surprises this year already. essexile (Mayo) - Posts: 429 - 08/10/2008 10:39:52 115305 Link 0 |
