2 monagahans form caherlistrane. joe and peter and brian o connell also from caherlistrane. and there is michael fleming who transfered and played with the neale last yr from corofin in galway so saying its jus local boys is rubbish!

Thats true jamesB. They are all fine footballers but its the older of the monahans that is playing the best football. I saw joe being sent off in kilmaine because he couldnt keep his head in a tight match. Mike Fleming is a strong full forward who had a good game against kilmaine. But he has been taken off on occasions. I think he is out of position perhaps. An intelligent footballer nonetheless.
I dont know much of o'connoll. Any feedback???

The Junior championship may contain a lot of teams.but only the Neale,Islandeady,Killala,Ardnaree and Lahardane can win it.The second teams of some of the senior clubs may have fanciful notions of a soft ``junior``but they are misreading the situation. The top junior clubs would easily hold there own in the overrated Intermediate championship.
At this stage of the season it is clear that many clubs are underachieving.North Mayo had many strong Junior clubs. What has happened to Ballycastle,Lacken,Moygownagh and Kilfian? Is it true that a ``big`` club like Swinford are out of the Intermediate and Junior championship? There was a lot of ``ballyhoo``on this site during the Spring concerning Ballyhaunis.Have they any chance of winning the Intermediate championship?

I said the only ones playing for the Neale are people born and reared there or people who live there!! I think that if you looked at any team you would find some people who were not born there. Maybe you feel all 'blow ins' should not be allowed play for their new local team. Whats your problem - Corofin causing you problems!

U strike me as a person that doesnt have a clue what they are talking about. you call it an overrated intermediate champ and that any of the teams named would compete in it but if look at the way these teams have performed this yr none of them would be considered contenders for an intermediate champ as they have all been well beaten by the stronger teams in this champ. even islandeady being in Div 2 would prob just hold their inter staus if they were there but thats as far as they would get. as far as B teams go dont rule any of the stronger ones out yet. Ballina were inter da last couple of years and charlestown are in great form as are aghamore to a lesser extent.

Is it just me or do galway fellas always come across petty and childish on this site?

I will tell you something ``Jim Jim`` I actually know what I am talking about. You are using this years dubious League competition to ``blow``about the so called Intermediate giants.Point is, that the last three County Junior champions are ``surviving`` comfortably in the ``heat``[ho ho ho] of the Intermediate championship.Just look for example at three great underachieving Intermediate ``giants``from well populated Mayo towns;Kiltimagh,Swinford and Ballyhaunis. These three have been regularly ``whupped``by Junior clubs in RECENT SEASONS.Cop yourself on ,Swinford are already out of the Junior and Intermediate championships.``Bally ha ha haunis``were hammered by Crossmolina ``B``who are not long up from Junior.
Mediocrity? Ballintubber last years Intermediate champions were buried in the Connacht club final Dillon and all.At Intermediate level in Mayo they are too many underachieving clubs who lack real ambition. Many are threading water and happy to maintain Intermediate status. They wont be voting for a system whereby League position is linked to Championship status ever again!!

Trixy,

In all fairness, Moygownagh were in the same group as The Neale (Who Hammer them) and killala who were lucky to get away with a win (poor shooting let them down) I don't think Kilfian were ever a big North Mayo Junior Club and yes Ballycastle and Lacken (more so) have gone down in standards due to lack of Playing numbers and I know it happens in alot of clubs but when these clubs were going well they had the bare 15 (extremely good Players)

Cant see your point yet. u mention 2 of the worst teams in the inter for your comparison. Ballyhaunis and Kiltimagh will struggle to stay in inter but everyone knew that. Ballyhaunis(prob smallest pick in the county) just dont have the players to challenge bar Keith Higgins and maybe paul prenty and Kiltimagh with all the retirements this yr and their injuries noone considered them to do what they did last yr. just look at the weekend where aghamore beat them by 8 points with only 11 plyers for the last 10 or 15 mins. swinford were a shock exit as they were tipped as dark horses by most people on HS. If you can make your point by highlighting how this champ is overrated by introducing some of the favourites into the equation eg. Westport, Aghamore, Belmullet, Tourmakeady i will listen then.

Also not sure what your point is about the last few junior champs competing is. Of course they should be able to compete as if they wernt there would be no point in having promotion but it will still take a few yrs for them to become real contenders

Sounds like Trixy has a bit of an inferiority complex.

Hav to add my voice to that of trixy's here... The better junior sides wouldnt be out of place in the intermediate, they are also running away with the junior. Sides like Kilcommon, or this year Achill, have gone up and looked comfortable... Islandeady and the likes could do the same... Yes they are not going to be as good as the best in the competition, i.e. Westport etc, but the arguement is that they could hold their own, not win it...

Thank you eternal optimist. I think his only reason for posting is to slag off clubs which im guessing his own club are still trying to catch. The Master i agree that some of the top junior clubs could hold there own on a given day against some inter clubs as i already said but i dont think that was what Trixy was trying to highlight esp when you read his follow up comment.

Yes Jim Jim your points are well made.I dont agree with ``eternal optimist``that I have an inferiority complex. My point is that the standard at Intermediate level has dropped a good bit since 2004 and 2005.The four finalists from those years are now well established senior clubs,Breaffy,``Ballagh``,Burrishrule and Castlebar. It doesnt read the same for 2006 and 2007.
Two of the four finalists Kiltimagh and Parke were regularly beaten by junior clubs around that time period.Tourmakeady are a ``yo yo``club.Ballintubber were hammered in a Connacht club final, and have still to`` cut the mustard`` in the Senior championship.
Jim Jim cites Aughamore,Belmullet,Westport and Tourmakeady as this seasons standard bearers in the Intermediate championship.Fair enough, lets examine the recent playing and winning achievements of those four.Westport and Tourmakeady werent good enough for senior based on results.Belmullet have underachieved for years.Aughamore look the business early doors.but it is early doors. My point is that the gap between Junior and Intermediate is not as great as heretofore. With regard to ``eternal optimists``quip concerning my alleged ``inferiority complex``.That``quip``is endemic in Mayo football circles. As such it lacks ``taste``and ``flavour``therefore it richly deserves a grain of salt!!. Maybe ``eternal optimist``can use the grain of salt to digest the facts

No inferiority here. Just commenting on the morass of mediocrity endemic to the Intermediate grade.

Trixy you make some interesting points but your argument is flawed in many ways. Firstly you say the four finalists from 2004/2005 are established at senior level now which they are. Using the same time-frame surely it would be 2010/11 before we can judge the merits of the four finalists of 2006/07. You say Ballintubber still have to 'cut the mustard' in senior level but correct me if Im wrong but did they not go only go up last year?? My point is it is unfair to judge them now especiallly considering you using strong examples of clubs 3/4 years after they have been promoted! Also your argument that they got hammered in a Connaught final?? what differance does that make, they had won their county title, were promoted to senior which Im sure was their priority at the start of the year. It is ridiculous to use that as an example if them being a poor team considering they bet everyone else in the county at the Intermediate grade last year.

Their are only a few junior clubs that might compete at Intermediate level. Even at that I would love to see a junior team playing away to an Intermediate club in the Championship, I would guaruntee they would more than likely get bet. Remember Intermediate is a stepping stone to Senior and it is not as easy as you seem to think. You name alot of clubs you deem to be at a poor standard (Tourmakeady, Ballintubber, Kiltimagh, Belmullet etc.) but I don't think any junior club would beat them in the Intermediate championship. Maybe when your own club are out of the junior grade you will see what I am talkin about!

Watched the neale v kilfian on sunday. Very poor performance from the neale if kilfian had taken their chances in the first half could have lead to an interesting finish. scoreline seriously flattered them at the end seeing as the kilfian keeper gifted them their goal. if they play like that in the knockout stages they will be saying goodbye... again!

Trixy,

I can't believe you're still trying to make this argument. In my opinion only two Junior clubs would have a chance of surviving at Intermediate level. The Neale and Islandeady and even then they'd probably struggle. I'm still convinced you've a bit of an inferiority complex.

The Intermediate Championship is a difficult championship to win. There are about 3 or 4 teams who could clam to be strong favourites and a number of teams who could easily spring a surprise and win it out also. The junior teams that you mention i.e The Neale, Ardnaree, Islandeady etc would not win this championship.. end of... they may be able to beat teams who will be struggling to stay intermediate this year but if they were good enough to challenge for the intermediate championship.. surely they would be at intermediate level already
