Kerry v Cork match analysis

Christ Kerry are poor, if they go out at this stage they might have bother reaching the q/fs as they usually get a wee handy number in the final taking them into the 1/4 finals or 4th round qualifiers. Cork look good.

Yes good spot by ref, clear penalty. Gooch not at the races at all in the first half. He looks a bit shaken, I'd imagine that's only temporary though as he is one of the greats. Galvin at his same old tricks again - definitely not one of the greats! Well not football anyway.

Some hand bag stuff every now and then which really is annoying and beginning to put a bit of stain on the game, will be interesting to see if that continues or if kerry can play open football and end the cynicism.

Some starnge decisions by the ref. the free outs for Kerry in the last 5 - 7 minutes just make no sense.

In the first half ball has been in play for 14 minutes and 13 seconds bad stats.

Great score by Kennelly just now - but Kerry overall seem out of ideas up front when the "twin towers" either arent on the pitch or arent playing well.

As for the cynicism Galvin et al are just as good/guilty of it as any team in the country - its just those with green tinted glasses dont seem to notice (watch the reply plenty of niggles and fouls - especially 26 mins in Galvin pressing his knee into Cork players neck while he was on the floor).

PS i think Kerry will sneak the win....

SHOCKING TOTAL SHOCKING!! The referee absolutely bottled it at the end. Gave Cork nothing most of the match, rewarded Kerry for diving & falling AND gave Kerry the softest of frees at the end. He also played 2 mins more than there was. Cork must feel very very aggrieved there.

Referee was very biased towards Kerry. Kerry shouldn't still be in it.

Cork finished very very badly. Also some extremely curious refereeing decisions that went Kerry's way. Ref needs to take a good look at what is charging and what is a two man tackling. I think he got a lot of it wrong today and in Kerry's favour.

Kerry nothing special at all but Cork have let them back into this championship. Had Kerry gone out today it would have been a severe blow to them. Qualifiers or not they were poor today and that would have been their last memory til the qualifiers. Cork let Kerry back into this champiosnhip and if that mental hurdle hasn't been climbed by Cork at this stage it may never be. Kerry very very lucky and have the ref and poor Cork mentality to thank.

Kerry to win replay and handsomely.

Paul Galvin SHOULD have been sent off today for 2 yellow card offences but the referee totally lost his nerve. Galvin pulled & dragged his man at the second offence which was an obvious yellow but the referee realised that he had already been booked so he kept his notebook in his pocket. Let's hear what the media say about that and Kerry's cynical dragging which they got away with most of the match. I have always said there are rules for MOST teams THEN there are rules for Kerry.

Ref played for a draw. Last free on 74mins when 2 mins overtime signaled. Disappointing for Cork but to be honest we have to be better then what we showed today if we are to win anything. We now have another chance in Pairc Ui Caoimh. It might prove a blessing providing we show the mental resolve and ability to beat them next time around. If we dont then we are simply not good enough. I don't agree with RLF's assessment that Kerry will win handsomely next time around I believe its still everything to play for.

Cork let Kerry back in to that game today though I thought Kerry were def given anything going by the ref. How Paul Galvin stayed on the pitch is beyond me! And I have to agree that there was a much pulling and dragging today as I have seen all year.

On another note, can anyone explain why there wasn't extra time after the 70 mins? My understanding was that there were only replays in the event of a draw after extra time. I know that would have been the case in ther Tyrone v Armagh match last week Surely if it stands in one match or province, it would be the same for all? Interested if any of you know what the story is.

The referees in the Kerry v Cork and the Cavan v Fermanagh matches were absolutely disgraceful and the G.A.A. are not acting on this !! This is destroying Gaelic football and nothing is being done about it. I have been saying this for years !! Many decisions in both games were questionable and some cannot be explained at all.
What is going on ?

Thought Cork blew it and not the referee to be honest. Cork had more than enough chances to win and didn't take them.

ClonoeExile, There was no extra time in the Kerry v Cork game as this was a semi-final. There is only extra time in 1st round games. This was a semi even though neither played a 1st round game !!

very bad form letting that one go. but then kerry let it go last year and won the replay. Role reversal this year? let's hope...

was it only 2 mins signalled. i hate that Cork deserved to win in fairness, but same as the hurlers have themselves to blame.

cork disappeared in second half especially their forward line. kerry looked a bit ropey but was their first game and are sure to improve. a record must have been broken today with the introduction of the mighty darragh him and quicrky boy must be the heaviest duo to ever play football, the two of them make rory woods look like posh spice. the only way those two boys could cover ground in the middle of the park is if they fell over, impressed with togh though!
