Manager Ratification - 1 Like(s)
I have made this point on this forum a few times and I will say it again. The problem with football in Wicklow lies at the top table and how the County is run (or not run as the case may be). In order to have a competitive County team we need a slick, well oiled machine that is driving the game within the County. While I applaud those who take their own personal time to help out with the running of the County, unfortunately, their skill set to be able to do the job required falls well short of what is needed. The County needs to be run like a proper business with neutral persons at the top table that will make the hard decisions required !! I will give you an example of what is totally wrong with our County. I spoke with an ex County colleague on Sunday who advised me that his club had a Div 3 league game fixed for 6.30 Saturday evening v Newcastle. His players showed up for the game only to be advised that the opposition were playing a "friendly" 2 miles out the road against their Junior team. He said that Newcastle had requested the match to be moved as they could not field a team on the Saturday yet they witnessed 7 subs on the sideline for the game ??? So I am presuming Newcastle did the following incorrectly - Failed to field for a league game, failed to seek permission to play a friendly from the County Board and failed to appoint an official referee (therefore putting 30 lads at risk of getting injured and not being covered by insurance). And what will happen here ? Absolutely nothing !!!!! The other team may be awarded the points but sure so what ? Newcastle will laugh about it and move on and the other team struggle to promote the game to young fellas who are already disillusioned with GAA and how it is run in the County and they may turn further towards Rugby, soccer and any other sport that they see fit. Now in my opinion the above highlights exactly why we struggle with Gaelic games in our County !!!!

Sorry LastGael I am not sure why you are asking me that question ? I have not mentioned any issue with the current Manager. If you want to take your clubs issues out on the current manager then that's your business not mine !!!!

Eire Og Greystones situation - 1 Like(s)

Replying To Freethinker:  "What situation ?? I haven't heard of anything on the grapevine. Surely it's now a case of shutting the stable door when the horse has bolted. Best course of action in my opinion is to try to ensure the same situation doesn't arise again for any club. As regards comments attacking the County Board, the best way to do that is at the County Convention. These guys go forward for election every year. Who votes them in if they are so unpopular??"
Have to agree with the post. The damage is done now. I agree with Dr Cuddihy and he's right to make a stance. These incredibly inept people are voted in ea h term by club reps and it's about time people stood up to them. We need new blood and we need it so badly !!!
