Three rising stars of Clare hurling followed in their famous fathers’ footsteps by winning All-Ireland medals last Sunday.

Matthew O’Halloran, Fred Hegarty and Mark O’Connor helped the Banner County to a stunning 2-22 to 4-11 All-Ireland MHC final victory over favourites Galway at FBD Semple Stadium. Their fathers, Michael, Fergal and Jamesie were household names when Clare won All-Ireland SHC titles in 1995 and ’97.

Matthew lined out at wing back, Fred came off the bench at half-time, while Mark was an unused substitute as the Banner claimed only their second ever Irish Press Cup.
