Westmeath Hurlers 2021 - 3 Like(s)

Replying To Claretandblue:  "None of the above are dual clubs. Ask someone from Killucan and you'll get your answer, dual players and dual clubs are entirely different entities. The desirability of more hurling clubs is not being questioned, the reality is an entirely different matter. Areas like Moate and Kilbeggan are footballing areas, that's tradition, all well lads making suggestions but they must be grounded in reality, otherwise it's pie in the sky nonsense. How many new clubs outside the large population centres have been established in the last fifty years? Let alone a new club trying to promote a different code."
Kilbeggan contested junior hurling finals in the past. There were more hurling clubs in the county 50 years ago than today. Its also amazing to think the only actual dual club in the county is Delvin. People look at hurling as being a threat to a club, but in fact it shouldn't be. It will bring in new families, new personnel and more games being played. Ignoring hurling in the line of towns with a large population from Athlone to Kinnegad is silly in a county like Westmeath.

Allow 17-year-olds play Adult - 3 Like(s)

Replying To jimbo66:  "Great to see this get some coverage From an UK perspective it would be great to have the wider GAA community being being Pro choice with this. Players who are being overused actually have a choice of playing less (for less teams) at Under 17 Players who feel they can handle an adult grade should have that choice at Under 17. Players who feel they can't handle it do not have to play adult. Players who teams fold because they don't have enough players have no choice but to play something else. Teams who's young players leave because they are not getting enough games don't have a choice if they can't play them and risk folding. A typical UK club minor team would have 3-4 U18s, 5-6 U17s and the rest U16. We only have 3-4 U18 teams in London providing 4-6 games a year for the players. Of these U18s can also play adult, U16s get more games and U17s get shafted. For us playing additional U17 competitions would not increase the number of games significantly du eto the number of available teams. The 4-6 U17s coming through every year make a big difference to Junior/Senior reserve teams down the line and we risk losing them to the game completely now. They have no schools, colleges or hurling to burn them out. We will not be able to bottom fill our adult teams with local players within a couple years if this rule is not changed. We have a London born lads as our County captain for the first time this year. It would be a shame if he was the last. Pro choice Abu!"
The majority of 17 year olds don't get to play enough games of club hurling or football. I'd say 9/10 official club games at minor hurling in Westmeath. The few outstanding players are on every team, but rules should be made for the 95%, not the elite 5%. The same players can play adult rugby, adult soccer, adult golf. Why the need to stop them playing GAA. I hope this rule is passed and allow young lads make the decision themselves if they want to play.

Galway vs Roscommon - 2 Like(s)

Replying To Yondu:  "Its not a 50/50 game lads it 70/30 in favour of Galway. Reasons why i think Galway will win. 1. Structure and system of play to their defence while Roscommon are all over the place in defence. 2. A better stronger more midfield that will likely dominate that area 3. players playing in key positions on the Galway team are suited to those positions the opposite with Roscommon 4. A better spread of scorers and better free takers especially long range ones. 5. A better bench and more strength in depth which is hugely important in modern day football. Roscommon haven't helped themselves there with a huge turnover of players from last year. Reasons for Roscommon to cause a big upset. 1. Galway to have a pure stinker of a performance 2. Roscommon to have their best performance this year. Conclusion Galway by 4 to 6 points."
Roscommon have had 2 years in division 1 Galway haven't. All of Roscommon's preparations this year seem to be for the two games in Connacht Last year they seemed to be stumbling from the end of the league Galway showed how flaky they are when Tipp got at them last year
