Why Are RTÉ Not Showing The Div 1&2 League Final Live? - 24 Like(s)
Is it still April Fool's? TG4 give fantastic coverage throughout the league, bit unfair to then give final to RTE who don't bother with GAA coverage except for championship

Replying To RoyalBadger: "About 2k from Louth turn up A Leinster final against Meath and 35k are suddenly huge fans" Meath fans must think games are sixty mins like in the early 70s. Left Tullamore in droves last Sunday week after 60 mins.

Clare V Cork - All Ireland Hurling Final 2024 - 9 Like(s)
Replying To ForeverBlue2: "He missed a lot more than that…. Cork had a clear penalty which would have resulted in a black card only for Murphy to bottle it…He missed a blatant free in to Cork which led to Clare going 3 up near the end of et… should have been down to a 1pt game..And before someone brings up the line ball that went to Cork .. that was the linesman's call and nothing to do with Murphy… To hear the woeful RTE panel heaping praise on the referee and at the same time showing his errors was laughable…. Murphy in the end ruined what was a brilliant game of hurling that deserved to go to a second day… Well done to Clare on their victory" I feel sorry for you. It must be shocking being so bitter about everything in our wonderful association

Westmeath Hurling thread - 7 Like(s)
Hurlers face Meath on Sunday in Cusack Park, it's their first competitive home game of the year and with the footballers on a deserved break from action it would be nice to see a decent crowd in Cusack. This is a new Westmeath team, lots of young players from every club in the county with a Westmeath dominated management team. They are putting in an huge effort as the players and management learn the ropes at this level. Our footballers were thrilled at the large crowd for their home game versus Sligo and our hurlers would benefit from a vocal support on Sunday. We only have three home games in the league.

Replying To eoghan6688: "That's a huge shame that Meath lost as I think they are the only Leinster team that has the conviction (based on tradition) to go from competing with Dublin to actually beating them in Leinster" An embarrassing post, a rare victory for Westmeath over Meath in a fantastic match in front of a huge crowd.

Munster Hurling Championship 2025 - 6 Like(s)
Replying To SixtiesKid: "Why is it that so many people are opposed to the proper implementation of the rules in Hurling? As usual we see great attention to refereeing standards during the league and then all is abandoned come Championship. What other sport allows referees to blatantly ignore the rules in order to "let the game flow"? Over recent years we have allowed blatant throwing of the sliotar to the extent that it is now standard practice. Charging with the ball is now rampant. Over-carrying, shoulders into the back etc, too many indiscretions constantly allowed.
In rugby the laws are implemented with vigour. Soccer is the same, even using VAR to check if there was a foul in the build up to a score. In golf you penalize yourself in you transgress. But in the game of hurling we turn a blind eye to the constant fouls, all in the name of letting it flow. Why? The game has deteriorated in terms of skill in recent years and is now based as much, if not more, on physicality than skill.
Its now all about creating and winning rucks, bursting past opponents taking 6-7 steps, high tackles and one handed hurling or throwing the sliotar. Nobody even bothers to take a side line cut anymore. Referees don't implement the 13 metre rule at all on line balls.
Bad refereeing has been a problem now for a decade or more and dare anyone say so. If the game continues in the current direction it will loose its standing as the great sport it once was." How anyone can say there's been a deterioration in skill over the past decade is bordering on embarrassing. The skill levels went through the roof in the 2000s and in the past 10-12 years they've increased again. The game may be more physical but the skill levels are outrageously good

Replying To shaggykev: "You just knew they never would have Dublin game and Kerry v Armagh on Saturday for the fairer 7 day turnaround so it was going to be Donegal or Galway that got screwed over.
I guess it was us. Use this as rocket fuel. I don't care if we win by a single point in a drab game, by hook or by crook, we just have to manage the legs and get through it.
Donegal have played 8 games to reach this stage and get a 6 day turnaround. Monaghan have played four matches and a two week break.
Would be a travesty if Monaghan made a semi final." Some crowd to whinge. Non stop moaning

Where do you propose to get these hundreds of refs from? 32 league matches would require 224 referees. What are clubs supposed to do? There were many hundreds of club league games on yesterday.

Alan Dillon Comparing GAA Referees With Soccer - 5 Like(s)
Rugby referees have made complete cock ups of crucial matches at the highest level. In 2017 Lions series the ref awarded a late penalty correctly to NZ but then decided as match was a draw to award a scrum. Beyond farcical. In 2015 WC Scotland were robbed against Australia by a ref who blew the final whistle as he ran for the tunnel. Laughable if it wasn't so serious. Rugby officials not nearly as respected as we're led to believe. The numbers playing each week are far fewer than GAA or soccer, hence fewer controversial incidents

We put together fifty mins of decent football, that's more than 35!! The behaviour of the Down supporters as John Heslin took a potentially levelling late free was shocking, has no place in Gaelic games. Northern supporters travel in great numbers and are passionate but their behaviour was disgraceful

Football Championship 2026 - 5 Like(s)
Replying To 32_4_1: "As I said I'm not actually bigging them up like some people seem to think, was their biggest critic also, but something clicked last year with Meath. Released from psychological shackles holding them back for years.
It's why they've improved tenfold, they were never close to being as bad as results suggested for the last 15 years, and what held them back has now lifted.
It goes in cycles. A blind man could see the dept of quality in the Meath forwards, and nearly all under 23, with a conveyor belt coming behind them in the youth teams. Meath will struggle to pick 6 forwards when everyone is fit, have about ten that can come in and kick two pointers from anywhere.
As laughable as it sounds, Kerry simply don't have that talent in the same dept, they can't always to be fair. Point is Donegal, Kerry etc are playing with seasoned professionals, at their ceiling potential wise with age of players etc.
Meath are already operating at the level of the other top teams, but not close to their ceiling in terms of potential, infact wont hit their peak for another few years, which is scary. This is the point everyone is either choosing to ignore or not accept!" Not much point having depth in your forward line with a defence like a sieve!! Longford defence last week was less porous.

Utter nonsense. Umpires have never received payment. Referees get a paltry mileage allowance. Players not out of pocket for their efforts. No one forcing them to play, it's a choice.

Suggesting Matthew Whittaker starts instead of Ronan O' Toole is insulting to the Loman's man, he's not in the stellar form of previous years but he's still one of our top forwards and obviously opposing sides realise he's the one who makes our forwards tick, I've criticised the management team in the past but performances in the All Ireland series the last two years have been excellent, competitive in every game against highly rated top five or six opposition

Replying To Joeynyc: "Damage?? He was poor apart from frees he scored." There's no possible way you could make that comment if you were in attendance last night. Kicking two point frees is not taken for granted but he also was our only player catching kickouts, he was our main attacking threat despite being targeted by Kildare defence. He made the crucial goal chance before half time, without him we were looking at a 15 point defeat. To describe him as poor last night is a total lack of understanding of the game.
