Westmeath Division 1 Cup Camogie Championship final
Lough Lene Gaels defeat Raharney thanks to second half goals
Lough Lene Gaels........5.06
Raharney.......................2.03
Lough Lene Gaels and Raharney, in front of a large attendance of spectators, produced a competitive contest of Camogie in the Division 1 Cup Camogie Championship final at Delvin last Sunday afternoon. A margin of two points, in favour of Lough Lene Gaels, separated these two form teams in this grade of Camogie at half time.
Lough Lene Gaels obtained all important scores in the second half to take control of the general play of this fixture, and moving clear of a very competitive Raharney team. Victory did go to Lough Lene Gaels, but Raharney never relented in their search for scores at any phase of this enthralling sporting contest, therefore ensuring that the Lough Lene Gaels defence continued to remain alert at all times.
Lough Lene Gaels opened positively, by scoring an early goal, Jennifer O'Neill the goalscorers, in turn followed up by a point, only for Raharney to draw level by then scoring a goal via Niamh Brady from a placed ball, and a point themselves.
Lough Lene Gaels then quickly pointed to regain the match lead. Thereafter, for the rest of the first half, defences generally dominated, with Lough Lene Gaels scoring two further points in the first half, while Raharney replied in turn by scoring a point.

Whichever team made the better start to the second half would in all likelihood, go on to achieve eventual success. Lough Lene Gaels struck for a second goal four minutes into the second half, Caoimhe Ginnell the goalscorer, driving the ball crisply to the left corner of the Raharney net with a angled drive. Shortly afterwards, the same player pointed a free for the Purple and Golds.
Lily O'Farrell then added a third goal for Lough Lene Gaels, leaving a margin of nine points separating the teams. Another Caoimhe Ginnell point then followed for Lough Lene Gaels. Raharney were striving to play their way back into contention, bringing pressure to bear on the Lough Lene Gaels defence. However it was Lough Lene Gaels that struck next, Emily Nolan firing in a goal. Lough Lene Gaels scored a fifth goal via Aimee O'Neill, before Raharney's Niamh Briody closed out match scoring with a goal and a point, from a free and a 45m award respectively.
