Tomorrow marks the 10th anniversary of the sudden passing of the legendary Kerry footballer and manager Páidí Ó Sé at the age of just 57.
The news came as a great shock to the football world and in particular to those who played alongside and under the Ventry man. A unique character, Páidí was an icon of the GAA who won eight All-Ireland SFC medals and also led the Kingdom to the Sam Maguire in 1997 and 2000 as manager.
The teak-tough defender's other playing honours included 11 Munster SFC medals, four National League titles, four Railway Cups, five All-Star and two county SFC medals won with West Kerry. His managerial CV also made for impressive reading. In addition to winning two All-Ireland SFC titles with Kerry, he won six Munster SFC titles, a National League and an All-Ireland U21 title in 1996.
The well-known publican also had spells in charge of Westmeath and Clare, and famously led the former to their one and only Leinster SFC title in 2004.
