Advice Needed - 9 Like(s)
Flying over from the UK to watch my first live games. Coming over the Kerry v Galway match in Tralee and the following day I'm off to watch Donegal at Meath. I am staying in Killarney on Thursday & Friday and having been therefore before I know how good the town is for pubs, bars & restaurants. I'm driving up to Tralee on Saturday and onto Navan on Sunday. So, can anybody recommend any decent pub, bars and restaurants in these towns. Live music is a must. Thanks in advance.

Replying To papa_pump:  "Bonner has to go. His closest idea to an attacking plan is to keep giving it to Bán and Mogan to carry up the field and over hit handpasses to the forwards for easy turnovers. We were found out 3 years ago, and we've been playing the same way for 5. Forget about the argument "who out there is any better". Id take Bert and Ernie over Rochford and Bonner"
Jesus, who pissed on your cornflakes. Yes, it wasn't brilliant and we still have some work to do but we won a close one and are through to another Ulster Final. Some people are never happy.

Replying To Furlong1949:  "Congratulations to Donegal. Best kickout in the country, Pattton. Murphy is one of the modern greats. Bonner/Rockford managment team, quality management, lots of quality young players, a team to look out for in the coming years and I wouldnt be surprised they are All Ireland champions in 2 to 3 years time. They will be an All Ireland final at least in the next 2 to 3 years. Well done Donegal , better team won. Meath we are not good enough. Its simple as. I was hoping we could improve on super 8s but its not happening. We are in trouble and Mayo is a must win game, lose that and its pretty much curtains. What we can hope for then is get more players back from injury. Get more div 1 experience and try and get a victory in div 2. If the league is over, its the championship, get players back from injury and aim for super 8s again. Playing the top teams will help. And if we go down, we should be young enough to go up again. Even though div 2 again this year is an unreal competitive division looking at the results in first two weeks. Its never easy getting out of div 2. Div 1 is a steep learning curve, best teams in the country , all the evidence is pointing to Meath are not good enough. But we just got keep at it. These games v best teams in the country , best players in the country, is invaluable experience for Meath. I suspose the question is will we learn from it. Are will we continue to be a kind of top div 2 team but not good enough for div 1 team. A team.that can reach super 8s but are losing badly at that level. Thats the level it seems we are at the moment. Still there is the championship. All GAA in every county when the championship comes the hope is a bit stronger. But at the moment Meath are getting a tough lesson by the best teams in the country. Thats what sport is at the elite level. Brutally tough. We just gotta keep at. Hopefully over a couple seasons can make headway. But it looks at the moment we are not good enough. Well done again Donegal. A modern superpower in the game. And great gaa supporters."
I was at the game and that is an excellent summary of how the afternoons events unfolded. Donegal were very good and as you rightly say Shaun Patton has the best kick out of the game. I do fear for Meath this year at this level. They looked a little lost out there today. Finally thanks to all the Meath fans for the information you all provided regarding places to drink and eat in the town on match day. Hade a couple in Ryan's before the game and I'm now heading down to PJ Clarke's then onto the bar at the hotel I'm staying as there's live music early this evening. Thanks again

Replying To Furlong1949:  "Meaths main strenght is the backs, thats why Meath were promoted and reached the super 8sand went toe to toe with kerry, Mayo ang Galway. Meath have some best defenders in fhe country eg Donal keoghan and Conor McGill. McGill.is one top 2 or 3 full backs in the country. He K kept Shane Walsh to 1 point from play. Lavin is turning into quality top class corner back. Harnan is also a natural defender who still only 24. And is a leader. Gallagher is an effective man marker and u dont many man markers anymore. J McEntee, Kane, McCoy and B Conlon are good attacking wing backs. And David Toher and Ronan Ryan great finds in last 2 years, especially Ryan who is turning into quality defender. Clarke has shown promise and wil get better. Andy McEntee was a good defender in his day. And he seems to be good at building a defence. After the Dubs, Meath have as good as defence as you will see in the country. Its young defence which is improving and had been without 5 key defenders for most of the league eg Lavin, Gallagher, McCoy, Kane and Harnan. When Meath get their key players back from injury there will be serious competition for the match day panel. Players that have played in the league might not even get on the match day panel in the summer..With 8 players returning at start of the year and new players getting allot of league game like Brennan, Clarke, Toner, B Conlon, Jones; O Brien that people didnt expect. Means Meath panel when everyone is fit is much stronger then last year. This Meath team is not static, its development is a live and ongoing process. This Meath team should peak next summer 2021 and continue improving up to thst . The first 15 Meath team we dont know how good they are as they have never played yogether Last year defence has never played with players who returned this year to the panel. So you take last years defence of Lavin McGill Gallagher Harnan Ryan Keoghan add a new midfield pairing of Menton and Jones and have lenihan, Walsh and Newman upfront, Meaths 3 best forwards. That team has never played together before. Jones was in the US in the last 2 years. He will back in March..He is the best midfielder in the county and Menton and Jones partnership looks the strongest we had in years. While lenihan , Walsh and Newman have never started a game for Meath. Even two of them together. Newman and lenihan have never started a game for Meath. Lenihan was travelling last year and both were injured this year. And Newman has had injury problems for years. Lenihan and Walsh have never started game for Meath. They did start in Byrne cup but lenihan went off injured after 4 mins. Newman and Walsh have never started game. Lenihan and Walsh are back and Newman is expected back for the championship. Im looking forward to seen those 3 play together. Yes Meath are lacking upfont but if Meath get the three forwards in the county playing together for the first time that will improve team..I just believe lenihan, Walsh Newman full forward lime can cause problems for div 1 teams. I even felt for 15 mins they were on togerher v Galway lenihan and Walsh improved the Meath forward play substantially It means also forward players who have done well in the league could end up on the bench by the summer eg James Conlon, Thomas O Reilly, Joey Wallace, Oisin O Brien. Meaning Meaths bench sud be much stronger then last year. I think Meath team.will be stronger then last year when everyone fit. We could have 5 or 6 changes to the first 15 Meath team this year. Meath will probaly have a new goalkeeper this year, a new corner back, a new centre back, a new midfieldr, a new full forward and new inside forward and 4 or 5 new players on the bench. Meath are inproving and that development is ongoing and upwards and should continue this summer and next summer."

Replying To DUALSUPPORT:  "The same all Ireland semi-finalists 100 years on from 1920 and the same teams play each other, you couldn't write it great day for gealic football is right. I'm proud to be a GAA supporter for unique weekends like theses."
It was a very special day. Two fantastic matches and both Tipp and Cavan deserved their wins over much fancied opponents. I though Cavan were excellent today. They were tigerish in the tackle and never gave Donegal a chance to get into their stride. Perhaps if Meath would have taken a lead out of Cavans book last night and played with that intensity they wouldn't have received the embarrassing thrashing they received from the Dubs. Would love to see a Tipp/Cavan final and a bit of romance to end what has been a wretched year all round.

Replying To Cockney_Cat:  "I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned The Sopranos, widely regarded as one of the greatest television series of all time."
It's good, but in my opinion The Wire was better. All 5 series are absolutely superb. Currently binge watching Treme. It's written by the sane guy who wrote the Wire and it's set in New Orleans 3 months after Hurricane Katrina. It's excellent. Also would recommend Ozark, Narcos, El Chapo and Narcos Mexico and for some comedy Veep.

Flying over from the UK for this one to give the boys some support in Croker. First visit there so I'm rather looking forward to it. Was at the Meath game so I'm hoping my winning record this season continues. Hoping for a good game, a Donegal win and a few pints after to celebrate.

Throughly enjoyed that. Thought Galway were unlucky to be fair and the black card in the final 10 minutes didn't help their cause either. One question, where was Sean O'Shea tonight? Also thanks to Hermit for providing a good list of pubs to visit in Tralee. Have done quite a few of his recommendations and am now in Kirby Brogans. Going to finish the night at the Blasket.

Replying To KingdomBoy1:  "Congratulations Donegal and hard luck to Tyrone, could have gone either way and with conditions as poor as they were it turned it into a lottery of which ever team made the fewest mistakes would win, unfortunately for Tyrone the 2 frees that were moved forward for dicent seemed to scupper them. Young Darragh Canavan and Oisín Gallen are class young footballers. Who have Donegal got next?"
Armagh

Not smugness but fact. I understand that Dublin, Antrim & Westmeath have small hurling fanbases but that's a great attendance in Cork don't you think? I noticed that Kilkenny who have a big hurling fan base only got just over 11,000 for the visit of Galway last week. Why do you think that was?
