Borris-Ileigh finished with a flourish last night to edge Mullinahone after extra time and advance into the semi-finals of the Tipperary senior hurling championship.

It finished 1-24 to 2-19 at Semple Stadium, where the late scores of Eddie Ryan and Thomas Fahey worked the oracle for the 2019 Munster champions.

Borris had an 0-8 to 0-4 advantage by the first water break of this cracking quarter-final prior to former Tipp star Eoin Kelly pulling Mullinahone back into contention.

The 39-year-old would go on to hit five points unanswered that saw his side lead by one at the break before Martin Kehoe's goal had it at 1-15 to 0-14 after the turnaround.

Borris-Ileigh lost Kevin Maher to a red card with eight minutes to go but they managed to hit 1-5 without reply to turn things and it took a Jack Shelly goal and a late free from Kelly for Mullinahone to force extra time.

The added periods were tit for tat, with Borris edging a one-point lead at the half, and the scores of the reliable Ryan (2) and Fahey were what would see them through.
