Cathal O’Neill struck 1-1 in injury-time as Limerick overcame Clare by 3-7 to 0-15 in the opening round of the Munster U20 hurling championship last night.
It finished 3-7 to 0-15 at the TUS Gaelic Grounds, where Clare had dominated large portions of the first-half to lead by 0-13 to 1-2 at the interval.
O’Neill’s early goal was about all that was keeping the hosts in it at that stage and they’d enjoy a decent restart that saw an Aidan O’Connor point being backed up by a Patrick Kirby goal.
Conner Hegarty and Cian Galvin hit points in response for the Banner lads prior to them losing free-taker Shane Punch to a second yellow card late on.
The resultant free was hammered to the net by O’Neill and he popped up with the winner moment later that saw the Shannonsiders snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.
In Tralee, Tipperary recorded a 3-15 to 0-13 victory over Kerry in their Munster U20HC opener.
Shane Gleeson’s two late frees were what saw Tipp leading by 1-7 to 0-9 at the half and a goal from Paddy Creedon 18 minutes proved a hammer blow to the home side after they had drawn level.
Kyle Shelly came off the bench to grab a third goal for Brendan Cummins’s side as they finished 11-point victors in the end.
