Replying To ohwow:  "I was in Roscommon on business and caught the last 20 mins of the St Brigids game. Suffice to say they steamrolled the opposition and will win another county final comfortably. A fine performance but a poor standard of football throughout the game which I was surprised about. Thought the standard would be higher."
Thanks very much. We obviously need to improve massively in Roscommon to try and reach Leitrim's level.

Replying To REDANDBLACK30:  "It is vitally important that Ireland elects a Sinn Fein/ People Before Profit left wing government next time so that there is momentum to a United Ireland and 32 county Socialist Republic. Fianna Fáil has failed to live up to its "Republican Party "electoral slogan. Unity should be the number one priority of any Irish Government and that will never be the case under Fianna Fáil/ Fine Gael."
I hate to tell you this but almost nobody wants a "Socialist Republic".

Replying To Seniorleague:  "Yup,there'll be one or two teams who disappoint next year but it should by all rights be a very competitive championship which is great.

Also yes,the club stuff is fantastic and am looking forward to it over the next few months."
The current All Ireland Champions won't be fit to kick a ball till 2028 with all the occasions etc etc

Spot on.
Some seem to think gaelic games only has County matches!

Replying To legendzxix:  "When Jimmy McGuinness was complaining about playing Mayo in Roscommon, why did he overlook Kerry having to travel all the long way to Tullamore to take on Meath? Was Jimmy McGuinness writing off Kerry's chances of contesting for the All Ireland at the time?"
You're being silly now legend!!

Replying To endgame:  "Roscommon got a run on Mayo in that second half. There was huge hype in Louth last week and it got to their players. Best of luck to ye v Kerry. Maybe a young Mayo team with no baggage is your best bet of an All Ireland. As for Roscommon, we were capable of a good run in the All Ireland series but flunked it. Too much about winning a Connacht title. That Nestor cup looks less shiny by the day."
We'd have bitten your hand off for a Nestor at the start of the season.

Can we please stop talking about the crowd next door and their manager.
Plenty of our own business to discuss- knock out phases starting in the Club Championships, new manager, possible back room personnel....etc etc

What Now For Merger Of GAA Camogie And LGFA - 3 Like(s)

Replying To giveitlong:  "The volunteer element in all games remains strong when it comes to coaching club teams, and club work in general. Where it is dwindling at a high rate is on match days, big club games and all intercounty games. While there may have been a saving in terms of cash coming into the account, by going card only instead of the unregulated cash at the turnstile this saving is being eroded by the cost of providing security firms to do the work that Maor's did, and did much better. Another question that needs to be asked, is, what would need to happen in the woman's games in order for the public to be as keen to pay to see them as they are the men's? I think, and I may be miles out, but I think the rules need to exactly the same in LGFA and GAA football."
Apart from Katy Taylor bandwagon hysteria girls sports are poorly attended all round.
60,000 in total at the 6 All Ireland Finals.
Was there even 10k in total at the 12 semi finals?

Replying To Commodore:  "Ireland badly needs a Center-Right party as an alternative, as all of the established parties in Dail Eireann are leftist or have moved in that center left direction in recent years to gain popularity and now afraid to rock the boat.

Irish National Debt is on course to be €30 billion higher at the end of this decade than at the start of it.
As said before, there needs to be massive overhaul of the public sector, as its dragging the state under with the levels of inefficiencies tolerated, which in turn is causing mayhem in Health, Justice, education etc."
Have you done an in depth study of the " public sector"?
Have you identified all those " inefficiencies"?
Have you listed them and given the solutions?
Or are you just repeating oul propoganda from Ibec/Isme?
Or from populist politicians?
Or are you just doing the late night grumpy oul lad at the end of the bar?
Fine Gael are in the main Centre right and are in power ( with others) for over 15 years .

Replying To legendzxix:  "I keep saying it. The qualifiers should come back. It only takes two knockout rounds for 23 or 24 teams to playoff for the 7 or 8 league qualifiers spots, depending on how far the Tailteann goes in their province.
If the qualifiers make a return, the Tailteann just needs to go straight knockout as all teams will have played at least two games already between provincial championship and qualifying rounds."
90%+ voted for the current system.
You seem to be the only one going back to the old Qualifier system!

Is Lee being a bit harsh on Galway here.???"
Galway were the media's choice as most likely to beat Kerry.
Wasn't much evidence to back it up.

Keegan just can't contain himself and the Mayo crowd going to Croker won't be flying Connacht flags or representing the rest of us.
Best of luck to them.

Football Format Changes Discussion - 2 Like(s)

Replying To tirawleybaron:  "Just because you inherit a way of doing things, doesn't mean its the way things always should be done.

The Limerick view is not exactly un biased on this. If Limerick get a lucky draw they can get into the Sam Maguire competition by only beating div3 and 4 teams. That's the inherent problem.

Kerry used to have a July Munster final v Cork, then an Ireland semi final in August and All Ireland in September - 3 games, 3 months -All Ireland - could plan for it every year.

Now, Cork & Kerry - particularly if the Munster championship is seeded - will have a munster final tune up, then are seeded in last 16 of All Ireland, with a home draw. This year, Cork had to play relegated Limerick (now Div 4) and Tipp (div 4) to get seeded into last 16 of All Ireland.
Tyrone, are now facing an away trip (potentially all the way down in Tralee or Cork).

What part of the above can you not see as being unbalanced and inherently unfair?

Hurling used to give Galway and Antrim byes into the All Ireland semi finals - they finally admitted it was unfair and changed - its time football copped on also."
Short-term - 4 Provincial Champions and 4 highest NFL teams in Pot 1, home venue.
