Car crash claims life of Antrim footballer in Australia

A GAA club in west Belfast has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of one of its star players in Australia.

Antrim GAA has led the tributes to 27-year-old Ryan Straney, who died following a car crash on Sydney’s M1 Pacific Motorway in the early hours of Monday morning. 

“We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Lámh Dhearg CLG and the entire community on the shock passing of Ryan Straney," Antrim GAA said in a statement.

“Ryan was a member of their Senior Football team and has been in Australia. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends at this deeply sad time.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
