Does club form come into account when deciding an all star or player of the year? I don't believe it does… yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12294 - 02/10/2026 19:30:20 2695965 Link 0 |

This is thing if we are only on about the last three games Darragh Beirne has it.

Cillian O Connor officially retires. What a servant to Mayo football. 7 Connacht titles, 2 NFLs, 2 all stars and 2 young player of the year awards and finally a Celtic cross this year. Okay he didn't win it on the field but I'm sure his guidance for the younger lads was al part of it. He also leaves as the highest scorer in championship football until Clifford likely overtakes him. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12294 - 08/10/2026 13:43:20 2696604 Link 1 |

Cillian was some player at his peak. Very much underrated I feel nationally throughout his career. MayoDan (Mayo) - Posts: 582 - 08/10/2026 15:41:22 2696619 Link 1 |

People often forget he missed most of the 2013 season with a dislocated shoulder and 2021. He was top scorer while playing almost his entire career in the era of blanket defense (2011- 2024). Drove standards, annoyed goalkeepers and defenders and in his prime averaged 85% from frees. Never let his county down tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 2056 - 08/10/2026 15:55:36 2696620 Link 1 |

Elbows O Connor scored mainly from placed balls and although good he was nt nearly as good as other top forwards.A man hard to like from a Dublin point of view.

In an era where Mayo were Dublin's biggest rivals COC would have been doing something wrong if he was liked by Dublin fans.

His record from play in quarters, semis and finals means he wasn't just a placed ball player. The analysis of his career is so petty from outsiders. And came back from 3 serious injuries.

He was scoreless from.play in a good few of them games. He never scored from play in 12 or 13 finals . Most of his scores came from placed balls and he scored alot against likes of New York,London ,Leitrim and Tipp.Would nt come near Con,Dermo,Rock, or Cliffords or even Andy Moran. brayballer (Wicklow) - Posts: 793 - 15/10/2026 15:33:13 2697437 Link 0 |

His best scoring rate was against Dublin,Kerry and Galway in that order, in 11 games Dublin rated best team ever his total score was better than both Clifford and Cooper combined in 12 games against the Dubs, these are the facts.

brayballer - you might want to go back and look at. the games and the stats. Cillian O'C is top scorer of all time with most of his scores coming vs Dublin, Kerry and Galway. Plenty from play and plenty from placed balls. Similar to the other forwards you referenced, except he scored a lot more vs the top teams
