Looks like the Allen gaels win over fenagh was only a fluke. I think their year is over now massive loss to manorhamilton this evening, I think another few years in intermediate won't do them any harm, you can't expect to come up to senior and play so terribly like that. Manor out worked them from number 2-15. Aughawillian vs allen gaels in relegation, who are we placing the bets on? Come on the Manor!!!!

As promised I crossed the bridge in Rooskey. Took in Leitrim G v Fenagh in what was a close contest. The champions are champions for a reason. Fenagh will be disappointed as they had them in a tight spot. And looking at the table now, they have a must win game next v Bmore. I see Glencar Manor won too but Allen Gaels have the Willies in last match. Unless injuries or a sting in the Willies, the form suggests Allen Gaels will win and be on 4 points . To be fair, Leitrim SFC is a much better format and more competitive than Roscommon

Exactly, just as I tell some of your fellow county folk and they are not listening, Roscommon senior football is a one horse race! Glad you enjoyed.

I think it's a two horse race in Roscommon. Brigid's or Pearses. Leitrim seem to have four or five contenders. Might try another Leitrim game this evening as nothing in Roscommon this weekend . I have some Aughawillan linkage so might go to see them. Bmore v St Mary's is probably the more interesting game but it is deep into enemy territory for me. I have heard reports of what happened in Bmore v Mohill game last week.

More competitive than Roscommon?

It's 2017 since a team in your county retained the senior county title. In the last ten years 6 different teams have reached the final the same as Leitrim and the title share out. Mohill 4 Brigids 5 winning the most in that 10 year period.

Yes I believe Leitrim is more competitive right now. I am not talking about going back to 2017. More teams of a similar level in Leitrim whereas Roscommon too predictable at the minute. Thats my view as a North Rossie

Brigids,Pearses are two teams that has won Connacht titles so are natural favourites. Is other contenders in Roscommon however probably wouldn't have that strength in depth of those two teams or go on to beat the best in Mayo,Galway.

It's lower the standard championship in Leitrim without any stand out teams. It's 1997 since a Leitrim club has reached a senior club Connacht final.

Thanks for your input and you're right, Leitrim is more competitive. Hmm

It's a stain on the format that Aughawillian can lose three out of four games potentially and still make Q/F.

Even if Aughawillian was to beat Allen Gaels in their last game, they would still somehow have to make up a 46-point scoring difference.
I'm afraid Aughawillian is heading for the relegation final.

Are there any reports from the Mohill v Aughawillian game? What happened?

The same holds true for Fenagh, Glencar Manor and St Mary's, who are only one game better off than the Willie's as it stands.

The format isn't too bad, all things considered.

As it stands,

3 teams are in the hunt for a semi final place.

4 teams are in the hunt for a quarter final place. (5 in theory if you count Aughawillan) but,

Of the 12 games so far in the SFC;

1 game was a draw

5 have been won by a margin of 1 point

3 have been won by a margin of 2-4 points

75% of games to date decided by 4 points or less - it's competitive if nothing else.

I think your issue has more to do with the fact that there are only 8 teams as opposed to the format.

If you had two groups of 4 you have the distinct likelihood that Round 3 games would be dead rubbers in the sense that by then, teams with 2 wins are qualified & have nothing to play for & teams who are winless haven nothing to gain either as they are already consigned to relegation.

The fact that 7/8 teams have something to gain in two weeks is commendable, no?

The nature of having an 8 team competitive championship is that places 5-7 are nearly always going to be tied on points or separated by scoring difference - which is looking very likely again this year. One of Fenagh, Mary's or Manor is likely to finish 7th, yet all 3 possibly have 2 points. You can't use the "mini league" tiebreaker as they haven't all played each other, so Round 4 turns into "who can lose by the least"

I'm not saying this current system is perfect, and there are changes I would make myself.

I see that you haven't mentioned what you would have as an alternative format, but I'd need to see a very very strong argument to be convinced that going to 2 seeded groups of 4 would make it any better.

Yeah but the standard is way off. Any wins in the Connacht club championship in the last few years? Love to all.

Yes agreed, one team winning all the time like St Brigids is very boring.

Went to Bmore v St Mary's. Decent game and the loss puts Mary's under a bit of pressure looking at the table. Mary's were excellent in first half and Bmore much better in second half with introduction of subs. Back to Roscommon games next weekend but Leitrim SFC is a very interesting championship compared to ours

Definitely thanks very much for agreeing. Standard in Leitrim is poor but any team there can win the cup. In Ros it's probably a pick of Brigid's /Pearses/Boyle and Oran. Brigids haven't as much depth though as people think but have quality. Love to all.

Yes it's tedious and draining thanks so much. They need to change the structures I think so millions and I hope they read this and take note. Thanks in advance.

There's really no pick at all, it will just be Brigids winning it again hmm. One day there will be competition for them.

No mention of a match either in the fixtures or results section on the C/B website.

Thanks and hugs and all that fluff….
