The provincials have been de- valued but the Connacht championship will be some craic next year.

Had a quick look on PP for 2027 - not really sure how we are rated as second favourites.

Kerry 15/8
Donegal 5/1
Mayo 7/1
Armagh 8/1
Dublin 10/1
Galway 10/1
Tyrone 10/1

Mayo went out as far as 33/1 for All Ireland after losing to Roscommon in Connacht. Would Mayo be champions now if they actually won that Connacht S.F ? I suspect probably not.

All 4 provincial finals were big match days this year. The Leinster final crowd was probably lower than what it could have been, it has to be said.

Mayo went out as far as 33/1 for All Ireland after losing to Roscommon in Connacht. Would Mayo be champions now if they actually won that Connacht S.F ? I suspect probably not.

Not so sure the Rossies, Armagh and Westmeath would agree with that.

Everyone wanted competitive provinces in football - we now have 3.

And it is a very tough one to pick the winners of each of those 3 for next year tbh.

Mayo celebrations will last long into the Winter and might affect their League campaign but they will want to be Connacht kingpins again next season.

Leinster - Meath, Westmeath, Louth & Dublin.
Perhaps a dark horse to emerge.
About time Kildare stood up to the plate tbh.

Ulster - I think Donegal will be very determined to put a few things right.

The Hurling province looks to be predictable again next season.

There were 5 or 6 of the usual clueless trolls having a pop at me when I suggested Mayo could make a semi final. I said earlier in the year I saw Kerry and Donegal as the top 2 but there were 3 or 4 teams below that with an outside chance.

I've had a great week. Back to reality now. I'm assuming some of the trolls have been on here congratulating Mayo and claiming they were having a bit of craic. Absolute doses.

Munster is some province for one province. During the qualifier era:
2 All Munster All Ireland finals.
Tipperary made the All Ireland semi finals
Clare and Limerick made the All Ireland quarter finals.

None of the counties had home league ground in their favour at the business end of the championship.

Thats not really that amazing. 4 different Ulster counties have reached AI finals in that period. Donegal, Armagh, Tyrone and Down. Monaghan, Derry, Fermanagh and Cavan have all reached AI semifinals in that period.

You'll have to copyright your 'home league ground' catchphrase, you use it so often.
Clare and Limerick are well off it at the moment. Tipp have been for most of their existence too, bar a few incredible years by their standard. Cork haven't made an All-Ireland semi-final in almost 20 years at this stage, which is very poor. They're on the road back it seems, but still miles away from the level they were at for most of the 00s.

The toughest thing to predict is how competitive the provincial championships will be next year.

Armagh,Roscommon,Westmeath could well have done the last provincial championships that all teams have taken serious with first choice team selections and big crowds turning up to Hyde park, Clones and Croke Park.

Those competitions have decades of tradition and local rivals faring off it would be a real shame if they become like pre season competitions with 2nd string or development teams lining out and small crowds in attendance.

Not sure about the hurling now. All 5 counties in Munster will fancy their chances again, and no doubt 5 of the Leinster counties will set out at the beginning of the year hoping to win a Leinster title.

I think they might be just that, going forward tbh.
But at least it would give the other less successful counties a chance of some silverware.

Timing your run is all the more important these days, with the new rules..!

I think Meath are a good example of it this year.
They were more than capable of winning Leinster but couldn't maintain their good form into the Championship, after their very good league campaign.

Priorities will change for many counties and there could be a knock on affect in the League and Provincials as a result.

Cork took the semi final to extra time last year. They can blow hot and cold. They'll probably take some inspiration from Roscommon and Westmeath.
Clare and Limerick were in Division 2 in 2023. Dublin visited Limerick's home league ground. Clare visited Dublin's home league ground. Clare and Limerick have fallen away a bit since then. Clare and Limerick give their football championships a fair run, alternating both codes.

Cork have blown mostly cold for the last 15 years. No semi-final in that time. For a county of that size, it's a bad statistic.
It reminds me of Galway from 2002 to 2017. A very poor period in general for us. Even home league ground © wouldn't have made helped us in that period.
Cork have had a few big performances in the last 15 time and they look to be on the up. John Cleary is improving them for sure. Football needs a strong Cork.
Clare and Limerick have pockets of football, but hurling is light years ahead in both counties and the ultimate priority. Tipp have more footballers, but again hurling is number 1 by far and they've fallen quite a bit from their golden era of 2016 to 2020. They had a few star players back then.
Without Cork coming to the fore, Munster only has Kerry making any impression on the championship at the moment. The signs are positive for Cork though and I hope it continues.

The Kerry hurling final is being played this weekend out of the way. At least the Clare and Limerick football championships are played out properly.

Like Wexford they play proper club football championships, in Clare and Limerick. Some good clubs have come out at times too. But when it comes to county level, hurling is the priority for the vast majority of the dual players in those counties.

On your last sentence that will be pity as if done right there is no reason to have the league,provincials taken seriously with healthy crowds in attendance but what happens will be up to HQ and how important they make each on competition, they appear only focused on the All-Ireland series which is two months out of 7 months of inter county action.

On Meath they are so inconsistent. Last year couldn't get promoted and ended up in All-Ireland semi-final. This year got promoted and couldn't reach the last 8. Over the last year championship wins against Dublin,Kerry and defeats to Louth,Westmeath another example of how inconsistent they are.
