Don't remember anyone saying soft run to the great Galway 1998 team…? Derry and Kildare. Kerry beat Cavan and Mayo to win in 1997. History remembers winners and how you get there or who you beat means nothing in the end up. Best of luck to the Galway hurlers next Sunday. Connacht is the poor relation when it comes to All Irelands and it would be great to see both Liam and Sam in Connacht together for the first time ever. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12209 - 12/07/2026 09:54:57 2685359 Link 2 |

Well I've heard it levelled a fair bit at that team but your point is fair, the winners will always be remembered regardless of the route. Best of luck to ye whether it's Kerry or Dublin in two weeks time

Wouldnt call that kildare team soft. They were brilliant in 98 and im pretty sure were strong favourites going into the final. We also beat a mayo team who reached the previous 2 finals and roscommon werent bad around then either. Seniorleague (Galway) - Posts: 156 - 12/07/2026 13:49:16 2685388 Link 1 |

Yes Yew tree forgetting the win in Castlebar that year, straight knockout, against the All-Ireland finalists.. No team in History hashadthe easiest run that Mayo have had..and losing two games... Belclare98 (Galway) - Posts: 38 - 12/07/2026 14:15:21 2685394 Link 0 |

Congrats. to Mayo. They put up a big score which is always a good sign regardless of the quality of opposition. I think every true connaught supporter should now wish the "Kobe - for one year only!" brigade the best of luck in the final. Looks like Mayo are going to honour the 25th anniversary of the last Connacht Senior success. Drax_the_destroyer (UK) - Posts: 935 - 12/07/2026 18:42:42 2685438 Link 0 |

I think Belclares statement might be motivated by previous statements from outside sources, devaluing Galways previous successes. But despite Mayos apparent "easier" draw there is no devaluing the merits of whoever wins this year... its been the highest quality and most competitive championship ever and if mayo win they will have played ros, monaghan, tyrone, meath, cork, louth and kerry.. no soft touches. Lets embrace Mayos potential success , not attempt to tarnish it before it even happens. And by the way Mayo need commended for a high quality style of play, polar opposite from us unfortunately. anotheralias (Galway) - Posts: 1095 - 13/07/2026 10:39:40 2685545 Link 0 |

They have a great chance and will be firm outsiders. smallfrank (Galway) - Posts: 612 - 13/07/2026 10:42:13 2685547 Link 0 |

Dublin did everything needed to win the game yesterday apart from one thing on their side and one which was outside of their control. They were very wasteful with their chances and very unlucky with crucial decisions which went against them. From about halfway through the first half to the end, they got a huge amount of joy on Kerry's kickout. They picked up the majority of the breaking ball. They forced a lot of turnovers. They kept most of Kerry's key forwards very quiet. Dylan Geaney was almost a non-factor. The pressure they got on the Kerry forwards was very impressive. Dublin had far more scoring chances than Kerry. If Mayo can somehow do the same, they have an inside line who can score. It'll be very difficult though. I'm not sure they have the physicality Dublin had yesterday around the middle and in defence. Hoping for a double for the west. My God we're overdue.
