Replying To Tadhg2020: "Galway... The most consistent at being inconsistent...." Just a cliche that really. Clare were superior to all the Leinster u20 sides this year. That's all we saw yesterday, nothing to do with Galway's 'inconsistency'. Why would a bunch of u20 young lads, from Galway specifically, suffer from 'inconsistency' in their performance? It's just a stupid daft cliché. How did they win Leinster, if they're 'inconsistent'? They won it because the standard was low enough for them to win it. Clare in contrast, were of a standard that Galway weren't capable of matching yesterday, and 3 years ago also at the minor final with subsets of yesterday's players on both sides. Seems like a fairly consistent formline there to me.

They clearly felt that they were a very good team. The wexford lads here seemed to be of a similar opinion on their thread. I dont know what the betting odds were but the media articles I read in the build up were tipping Galway too. Clare won 2 of their Munster round robin games by 1 point, another by 3 and were well beaten by Cork in their 4th. They reversed that in the semi final and won Munster on penalties. It definitely stood to them.

Would you rather that we said that they had us bet before throw-in then and that we should just forfeit to the great Munster Championship teams like how all Munster teams would like it.

Is there some sort of metrology institute or organisation out there that validates this 'hype' into something quantifiable and real, so that we can all have a look at verified metrics on the subject matter, as opposed to just notions wafting about in your head?

Replying To BarneyGrant: "Tadgh gets a dim view of hurling beyond Munster." Galway were favourites, in media eyes anyway( i dont bet so dont know bookies favourite) and got hockeyed by Clare who won munster on penalties after a hard slog of a round robin. There is nothing controversial in any of that. Did Galway flop/underperform or were they built up to something that wasn't justified? I believe that it is the former. I believe this because they didnt seem to be up for the fight when it was put up to them. Clare out worked and out performed them on the day. Does this Galway performance define this group. I dont think so. I think they underperformed on the day which makes them prone to inconsistency. Nothing more. I dont think you can win out leinster in the manner that they did without workrate and aggression and both were lacking on Saturday. Clare had both in spades. I believe that their battles in munster stood to them on the day. Maybe im wrong.

But it helped them that they picked fully fit lads to start that game. Very hard to battle hard when you have a grade 2 hamstring tear for example. Maybe their best lads being involved at Senior all year cost them mentally and/or physically also? Or made a difference to their link up play and teamwork? Or team bonding? No way of knowing from the outside tbh. Clare were very good either way, and it has to be remembered they were missing likely starters also.

They probably did fanxy chances of winning 20 AI more than senior. Be interesting to see if it impacts on team for Saturday.

Maybe the media expectations were wrong? What were those expectations based on? It's very obvious in the under 21 and under20 grades for the last FIFTEEN seasons to be precise, that the Munster winners have generally been vastly superior to the rest of Ireland teams. KK luckily enough in 2022?, and by small margins, squeezed one title from those 15 seasons. Munster won the other FOURTEEN of them, a few by cricket score margins. Yet you're on here talking absolute nonsense about Galway suddenly emerging as favourites to win the 2026 u20 championship against that 15 season long backdrop. Plus, Clare had beaten them handily enough in the Minor final of 2023.

Tipp and Cork always had the numbers, but since the late noughties Limerick and then Clare have put huge work in at underage. Waterford had the 1 great team like Offaly did. Thats why Munster are ahead over that time period. And well ahead. It all starts at the beginning.....

Tadhg, here is what you wrote. "Now they are all excuses not reasons. There is no justifiable excuse for an attendance of 4000 at a senior leinster championship match in Wexford Town. None whatsoever. The town has a population of 22k and the county has a population of 164k so geography has absolutely nothing to do with it. There should have been 10k wexford diehards there alone. Sure season ticket holders should cover the 4k or close to it. Maybe, just maybe, its because everyone in wexford knew that they were safe from the drop due to the insurance policy? I wonder if Wexford were in genuine jeopardy of dropping our of the Leinster Championship what kind of a crowd would have shown up? I would bet that it would be a lot more than 4k. Thats more embarrassing than the performances tbh. Tadhg2020 (Limerick) - Posts: 525 - 28/05/2026 15:39:24 2676307"
So that's not a lecture? It sounds like my old principal in school lecturing me.
There was a "justifiable excuse" - Wexford were out and the match did not matter. How was there a "justifiable excuse" for 15k from Limerick, Cork, Clare and Wexford in a match where the winners were in to an All-Ireland quarter final, if they are this great army of loyal supporters you seem to think you have? They didn't care too much 10 years ago when you were a bang average side, did they?

Its very clear that the media expectations were wrong. Thats not under debate at all. Clare were way better and put to bed any talk to the contrary. They were based on their performances on the way to leinster championship and, probably, the performances at senior by Rabbitte, Niland etc. I bought into it a bit if im honest. I think that one that KK won was the one that Cathal O Neill wasn't allowed play in.

Clearly very poorly researched media opinion/expectation, if the overwhelming evidence of the last 15 seasons in the u21 u20 grade wasn't given top billing consideration.
