watching a lot of club football on rte,clubber tg4 and being at some, there is nothing wrong with the rules, its mainly the top teams managers and coaches are the problem, if u go see most of div 2/3 /4 teams in league ull see great football, its the top teams that are chocking the game with style of play [fear of loosing?]

I agree and disagree. There have been some terrible club games as well. I think club games have been better since the inter provincial experiment. It's like teams have been positively influenced in taking a more "vertical football" approach.
Watching the Cuala game last night:
1. The new goalkeeper passing rules should be an improvement.
2. 3 up and 3 back should be positive.
3. The solo and go should be an improvement.
4. The reward for the longer score would have been interesting.
5. The improved attacking mark would have been interesting also.

There is selective umbrage being taken on this point at the moment.... lol

You are right though - Kilcoo can be a hard watch but they are very effective.
Needless sending off cost them in the Ulster final.

There's no rule stating 3 back… you can still have 11 strung across the backline not counting the goalkeeper… The 2pt score is absolutely ridiculous and will only lead to players having pot shots from everywhere with the majority going wide especially at club level where referees will be hung out to dry trying to monitor this…. I can see the club games especially turning into chaos with all these rules coming in….

The rule has been presented as 3 up / 3 back. The attacking team keep at least 3 players in their half own half. The defending team keeps at least 3 players in their opponents half.

has anyone seen any games under the new rules so far?
I was at the Wexford V TOTY game in castletown on the 29th. Thoughts it was a free flowing game. There wasn't a single attempt at the 2 pointer. the solo and go thing was great for speeding up the game. i dont know how the referee in a club game will manage the 3 men rule - you need linesmen to do this. the other rules seemed to be straight forward enough - there was one instance of a backpass to the keeper. Anyone at any more games or have any thoughts?

As of next week club championships are restarting. All counties have different structures but due to the structure of the Kerry championships (only 8 senior clubs) - they tend to dominate at intermediate and junior all ireland.

In 21 years of the intermediate championship - Kerry (9 finals) & Cork have been in 12 finals and won 9. Connacht teams (mayo and Galway in 5 finals) have been in 12 finals and won 4, Ulster have been in 12 winning 8 (Tyrone in 5 finals), Leinster have only been in 3 finals.

By the looks of the results - Clare, Waterford, Tipp and Limerick have too many senior clubs, Sligo and Leitrim also, all of Leinster and Down are doing themselves a disservice.

its worse at Junior - Kerry have been in 15 of 23 finals winning 11.

Going by the no of clubs - there should be a handicap structure for each type of county

Dual A Counties
Provincial Intermediate representative must be 17th ranked club (or lower)
Provincial Junior representative must be 33rd ranked club (or lower)
Cork 259, Dublin 134, Antrim 108, Galway 80

Dual B Counties (mostly hurling, reasonable football)
Provincial Intermediate representative must be 11th ranked club (or lower)
Provincial Junior representative must be 21st ranked club (or lower)
Clare 84, Tipperary 72, Limerick 101, Wexford 93,

Dual C Counties (mostly football, reasonable hurling)
Provincial Intermediate representative must be 13th ranked club (or lower)
Provincial Junior representative must be 25th ranked club (or lower)
Down 70, Offaly 61, Derry 60, Westmeath 47, Laois 46, Kildare 57

Hurling Counties (mostly hurling, little football)
Provincial Intermediate representative must be 7th ranked club (or lower)

Tom O'Sullivan, Conor Flannery, Mark O'Connor, Dylan Geaney and Paul Geaney all fully deserved their places in the Club Football Team of the Year. Tom O'Sullivan should get Club Footballer of the Year. He should have been Man of the Match in the final.

Mayo leagues start April 18/19th weekend. This weekend sees the start of the divisional cups. So here in south Mayo you'll have the O'Meara Cup starting between South Mayo clubs only. North, East and Weat have their own cup comps.

Agree with everything you say with one clarification. MOTM in club final was 100% Ruadhri Fallon. But the pundits have a fixation with winning teams getting MOTM. Similarly Shane Walsh in 2022 but that was more marginal call to be fair as DC was outstanding too. The Fallon situation was absolutely clear cut and everybody who i discussed this with is of the same opinion.

Ruaidhrí Fallon was the standout player in the All-Ireland club final. He was absolutely outstanding and by a distance the best player on the pitch in my opinion. He should have won the man of the match award.
