I'd say the schools is your best shot. Maybe open up some Rugby Excellence Academies. It'll cost a few pound but I'd say it's the best way.

Leinster werent on par with many top international sides and Cullen hasnt been running the training week etc of Leinster for a while. hes more a director of rugby who oversees the whole Leinster professional programme not simply coaching the first team

What are you defining as zero impact? Its numbers are much bigger than 20/10 years ago and it will take time to improve at adult level. it isnt simply how to break into rural areas but how to address going from age grade to adult level everywhere. i get called pro rugby all the time and would never say there isnt anything wrong with irish rugby. the pipeline is very good. has its issues but 10 isnt an issue. we have 3 young enough options in harry byrne, prendergast and crowley. we had years of a clear first choice with sexton o gara before him and even before o gara you had humphries and elwood who were all very good options. that we have several young options isnt a bad thing.

radical overhaul is a bit OTT? Longer sentences in what areas as i dont think longer sentences across the board is needed. KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3935 - 20/02/2026 19:41:47 2657547 Link 0 |

I dont see a problem with Farrell going to Lions. theres always a hangover after a lions tour for team who dominates the tour and thats happened with ireland. nothing new there. i think he was still keeping on top of things. bit unfair to say he wasnt KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3935 - 20/02/2026 19:44:55 2657549 Link 0 |

no all provinces need to mix clubs and schools as way to develop plauyers set up rugby excellence academies? No they have regional talent squads for players to be assessed. the players in their clubs/schools get seen in their club or school and train with region or province and build from there KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3935 - 20/02/2026 19:46:24 2657550 Link 0 |

It's like pulling teeth getting Trump to release those files, what is he hiding? Out today to commiserate with Andrew, birds of a feather stick together.

He also selects the team and decided not to start their best centre, their New Zealand international star player in their semi-final last year and ended up getting dumped out, having been strong favourites. It was a bizarre call then, and still is. Leinster have had arguably the strongest squad in Europe on many occasions over the past 7 or 8 years, but couldn't finish the job. Cullen is a very decent man, but he knows as well as anyone that they've underachieved. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2728 - 20/02/2026 21:17:20 2657565 Link 0 |

It won't work. Rugby has been trying to make a dent rurally and is less popular now than 15 years ago.

None of them want those files to be released. Including one of our own who has another distraction 'caring' song out this weekend after his pal gets pinched!

The system doesn't work. There's less playing rugby not more.

There's no question about it that the GAA has the tradition out in the rural areas in its favour. Sorry to be a capitalist pig about it but maybe there may have to be money thrown at the problem. As in grants, incentives, sponsorships, etc. It's a tough one for sure as even the GAA is struggling in sparsely populated areas.
