A lot of the young lads need 4 years s&c to get to where they should be. They'll be eaten alive come championship. Also, as for Conor Whelan coming back into the 15. 9 pts in 7 championship games last year, needs to seriously improve his form to warrant a selection. Anthony burns has opted out, and he's right."
Ah only one team ever going to win after time. Clear gulf in class. I told you in advance that Loughrea lacked an elite forward and that's exactly what came to pass. They've a lot of really good club forwards but no one who will make it at senior intercounty.

He's like a cheerleader Bally gunner had them at arms length

Burns opting out but wouldn't be in best 26

Hoping tiernan Killeen steps up this year had high hopes for him but he's not pushed on in last 2 years

It's strange they are best club at moment but don't think a loughrea player makes best 15 in Galway.

It's probably what stopping them getting over line in all Ireland they have a lot of v good players but as someone said lacking a Conor Cooney Pauric Mahony type inter county forward

Definitely agree with that I can't pick one Loughrea hurler who you could honestly say is good enough to make a impact at Senior intercounty

History shows there's not too many from any club that are good enough to make an impact at the business end of the championship. 4 All Irelands and straight through to an All Ireland semi final every year until 97. Antrim every 3rd year in semi final. Hype every year around the hurling team. Can u blame Loughrea players opting out. Just finished with the club and straight into county. Great to see them living their lives.

It makes it all the more an amazing achievement that they won the County twice in a row and got to an All Ireland Final without some County Level hurlers.

Just had elite club players with ex top inter county player in coen.

Funnily enough corofin footballers were similar in the 10s great club players like farraghers steede O'Donovan with solid ex IC players like Fitzgerald but lacked the elite IC forward

They weren't ever getting Antrim in a semifinal, let alone getting the fixture every third year, as you've waffled here.

Three point win for Pres Athenry over Raphaels in schools final. Late goal from Ciaran Leen put the game away for the Pres having been behind for three quarters of the match. Leen finished with 1-13 and he probably could have scored 1-20 by himself if not for a lot of wides that he would usually score with his eyes closed. He's very strong at schools level as you would expect but Athenry are a bit too reliant on him this year. Ronan Cahalan and Michael Lewis very good for the Pres. Raphael's were probably the better balanced team around the field and they have some nice forwards with Jack Shaughnessy, Ethan Coleman and Tadgh MacCarthaigh but they were physically second best which doesn't bode well for them with a game against St Kierans next.

They definitely won't be missed from the Galway set up, only one decent Loughrea player to play for Galway Senior hurlers in the last 60yrs J Coen....and his family stock are Mullagh/Glenamaddy!
