It amazes me as to why they just couldn't announce fixtures and venues for all matches now. For the final round, they should all be at the same time on the same day and GAA+ showing clips/scores from every match as they go in - bit like sky sports. Delaying the announcement means people cant plan in advance and book accommodation if they wanted to (which gets very expensive the closer you get to it). The GAA delay announcing neutral venues until they see the lie of the land, hope to use Croker if they can, and try to get the most wedge out of every match. Saturday 14 June Group 1 Tyrone v Cavan - Brewster Park Ulster Winner (Armagh / Donegal) v Mayo - Breffni Park Group 2 Monaghan v Down - Armagh - Athletic Grounds Leinster Winner (Meath / Louth) v Clare - Mullingar Group 3 Roscommon v Cork - Ennis Kerry v Leinster Runner Up (Meath / Louth) - Tullamore Group 4 Dublin v Derry - Clones Galway v Ulster Runner-Up (Armagh / Donegal) - Carrick On Shannon I'll do the draw for the rest of the championship easily enough Saturday 21 June 1. 2nd Placed Team Group 1 v 3rd Placed Team Group 3 2. 2nd Placed Team Group 2 v 3rd Placed Team Group 4 3. 2nd Placed Team Group 3 v 3rd Placed Team Group 1 4. 2nd Placed Team Group 4 v 3rd Placed Team Group 2 All Ireland q finals Saturday 28 June A. Group 3 Winner v 4 B. Group 4 Winner v 2 Sunday 29th June C. Group 1 Winner v 3 D. Group 2 Winner v 1 Semis 12 July A v B 13 July C v D Not a lot to it really except that the draw is delayed because it is manipulated to ensure that teams can't meet each other again within a month of playing each other in a provincial final or round robin match. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1382 - 08/05/2025 16:11:29 2607642 Link 0 |
Cork have more of a football tradition and more all Irelands in football than Roscommon but maybe Roscommon is a hurling county in your eyes… Bottom line for the deluded is… Hurling is hugely entertaining, enjoyable and well attended while football doesn't tick any of those 3 boxes… It's simple really but maybe to hard for you and your like to grasp… but you will

I'm surprised 55000 people are heading to croke park on Sunday to watch a game that's not enjoyable as they wouldn't be going if it wasn't. We'll attended aswell I'd say 55000 for a provincial game is well attended. As for entertaining yes football hasn't been too entertaining for the last few years but with the new rules I think most would agree it's becoming a lot more entertaining.

I would imagine 10,000 of that would be neutral such to the hype and uniqueness behind it which is fantastic to see, it will have an All-Ireland feel to it.

That 1 Football county has an AI in hurling, and still competes reasonably well in the second tier. If Hurling was organised like Football Kerry would be competing in the top championship tier, top 16 teams. And 3 of the 5 hurling counties have won at least 2 Football AIs. Even Clare and Waterford have both reached Football AI Finals. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15673 - 09/05/2025 06:24:29 2607728 Link 0 |
Lots on at weekend. Will definitely try to see the Louth/Meath game, might even go in if our hurlers win tomorrow and in good form. Brennan family are locals in one of my pre and post match spots so be big day for them and hence sympathies be with the Wee County for that reason rather than antipathy to our north county neighbours! Leinster football final will be the biggest attendance ytd. At present the only attendance over 40k is 42k at cork v tipp hurling , Leinster football will definitely break that and more to take no 1 spot ytd , limerick v cork the following week looks like 42k sell out as well . It's the novelty factor that will have the attendance bigger on Sunday… if either team were facing Dublin there would be a very small attendance as shown in the last few years..even Louth or Meath wouldn't travel… Some of the new rules have definitely improved the games a spectacle ( in fairness it wouldn't be difficult ) but others are pure silly and are making a laugh out of the game..! Hopefully a good game on Sunday and a great opportunity for Louth to right the wrongs of the last Final both were in..

For the 50th time structures and fixtures are the problem. You are actually the one that's delusional here. The group stages have 3 teams that qualify from each group and people with families cannot afford to go to all these games. Hurling teams keep playing each other . The same 5 or 6 good teams playing each other over and over. There is literally one province that is competitive in Hurling. One. It's hardly great is it? No Ulster, No Connaught and Galway keeping Leinster championship afloat . But yeah please tell me how great hurling is.

You obviously don't watch Leinster hurling championship if you don't think it is competitive. Cats strong favourite to win it but everything else up for grabs. All remaining 9 games will have something riding on them. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3508 - 09/05/2025 12:19:34 2607795 Link 2 |
You obviously missed my point again. They moved a Connacht team to Leinster. Take Galway out of it then tell me how good the Leinster championship is. Dublin with the odd good performance. Wexford the odd one also. Galway have saved it from being a cakewalk most years.

You are right Barney Leinster is competitive but guys like Flaker just can't bring themselves to admit that hurling is ten times more entertaining than football.. the small attendances going to the football championship is testimony to that although I would agree that there are far too many meaningless football matches being played… but that was those at the top trying to make up the short fall in attendance figures by hoodwinking the fools to pay into glorified friendly matches before the real thing gets under way at knockout stage…. Those at the top in the dear seats know that fools and their money are easy parted…!!!

Galway did not even get a third place last year, and not for the first time. Dublin have beaten them more often than not and Wexford beat them last year and I expect will give them their fill of it tomorrow in Salthill. Kilkenny would have waltzed through Munster most of the past 30 years and would still at the very least get a qualifying sport every year. Wexford have beaten Cats and we have run them close a few times in Parnell and ought to have beaten them really. They do remain the best team of course and among top four at least in country. I already mentioned the odd good performance from teams. Kilkenny are top dogs there. Galway if they get their act together have a chance most years to challenge them. Dublin and Wexford have the odd good performance but nowhere near competing consistently. Since Galway joined Leinster they have 4 titles I think? Kilkenny have the rest bar 2. Wexford one year and Dublin one way back under Daly. Kilkenny and Galway the only ones who will challenge to get to an All Ireland final in the next 5-10 years. You want to argue against that? I have said since day one there were too many games in football that don't have much at stake. Since DAY 1. You never made that point when you started arguing about this. You hijack every thread with the same stuff over and over and over. You used to say football is rubbish. Now you are admitting it might not be that simple. The new rules are great. One or two things will change to make it better again. I love hurling but it's not that competive and has one good provincial competition that hides the major flaws. It's great to watch. I never said it wasn't.

If Wexford make the Leinster Final there will be close to 60000 at it.
