I don't know. Not being smart but Rossies wouldn't be a team you'd associate with hammering other teams and they did that today and will do that the next day against Kildare.

I can see lots of people looking at their phones!

Poor first half just about deserved our 2 point lead, Wasted some good goal scoring chances 1st half that didn't help matters and while both kicked a mountain of wides opening half far more of our attempts really should have been scores.

2nd half 1-13 to 1-5 in scoring and Sligo's goal came totally against the run and when we were caught up the field. Certainly will take a 10 point win and scoring 1-21 after playing last Sunday in Croke Park that took a lot out of us meanwhile Sligo had two weeks to prepare. Galway yesterday was getting pushed all the way by Westmeath and sending off allowed them to win pulling up and Louth got within one of Mayo today. In this weather it's not easy to win by double digits regardless of the opposition.

On the players performances Carroll very good on his kick outs again, Colin Walsh did well on his championship debut which included a point. David Murray and Brian Stack among our best defenders as they held Niall Murphy to one point from play and Paddy O'Connor scoreless. Ruane was one of the contenders for MOTM, Enda Smith,Cian McKeon very good also and as the Murtagh brothers had their good moments and good cameo from Donie Smith off the bench.

A much needed two week break now before facing Kildare and hopefully the sensible choice of O'Moore park or Tullamore is chosen for that match.

Excellent summary of today's match.
We should really go for it against Kildare and see what happens. It seems to be a straight shoot out between Dublin and ourselves to see who can improve their scoring difference the most for a direct quarter final spot.
Even if Dublin were to get that 1st spot I feel that we are in a great position to come second. Kildare would have to beat us by 10 points or more to get secon place as our scoring difference is + 10, while Kildares is -9. (I think I am correct?)

Not so, if Kildare beat us they move ahead of us on head to head so it's another must win game

Ben O Carroll deserves a mention, I thought he was outstanding and is such a handful for any defence. We will have a really top class forward in 2 years time when he develops physically and another year at this level.

No. If Dublin win and Kildare beat Roscommon, Dublin would be 1st in the group on 5 points and Kildare and Roscommon would have 3 points each and Kildare would get second place in the group on head to head over Roscommon. Nothing to do with scoring difference.

If Dublin win and Kildare beat us by a point. Kildare will get second place, even though we are both on three points and our scoring difference ( Roscommon) will be + 9 and theirs (Kildare) -8. A scoring difference of 17 points over just 3 games against the same opposition. Is that system fair? I don't think so.

If Kildare beat Roscommon - which they won't - then Kildare would take a higher position in group on head to head. Almost certain that is how it works. Points difference is only when three teams are tied,

That's very late for travelling supporters. Are we really been pushed back to the end of the queue. If Dublin v Sligo has to be played at same time at a nuteral venue that would be a terrible inconvenience to the Dubs. They can't do that??

The Dublin/Sligo match will be in a neutral venue. All games in all groups will be at the same time. That was made clear when the schedule was signed off on. Months ago.

Why do people feel the need to invent reasons to feel sorry for themselves?

Spot on. Great win considering the blistering heat. It was sweltering in the stand never mind what it must have been like for the players. They have well earned the two week break now. Great to see Roscommon are able to mix it up and play a much more offensive game, although their goal came from our high press plus maybe fatigue which shows the risks involved. E Smith was a real leader. Colin Walsh did brilliantly and has the potential to be a very good aggressive tackler. But everyone played their part again. It looked like Roscommon overplayed it a bit in the first half when in the final third, possibly they were targeting goals. Sligo had some bad wides but in fairness some of those were them just taking on quite difficult shots due to our defence. Sligo definitely have potential and they will improve if they can move up the divisions. They will learn a lot from the round Robin but on the other side of it they would probably be in with a shout of challenging for the Tailteann had they been in it.

I agree that Ben O Carroll had a good game and never stopped getting out in front of his man and giving options to the rest of the team. He will no doubt get much stronger with S&C over the next couple of years. While Enda Smith was undoubtedly the man of the match, Dylan Ruane and Cian McKeon also put in outstanding shifts. All four players ran themselves into the ground along with many others. TV for example would never give you an indication of the amount of unselfish running Dylan Ruane did off the ball, making space for other players and dragging his opposition number and others at pace, all over the place.
He reminded me of Liam Silk for Galway against Armagh last year in Croke Park. He must be a nightmare to play against as he has pace, power and outstanding stamina, draining energy continously from the opposition players. For a relative newcomer, I was really impressed, but I trust Davy Burke and his selectors to pick the team as they see fit.
Diarmuid Murtagh is the fittest I have seen him in years and has improved both his pace and stamina. I think that we are a very fit team and great credit is due to the S&C guys and to the players for putting in the really hard work over many months and years.
However we can't be waiting around for 2 years for Ben and some other recent good under 21's to get stronger. Niall and Conor Daly, Ciaran Murtagh, Niall Kilroy and some others will also be two years older and coming to the end of their careers. THIS YEAR AND NEXT YEAR IS WHEN WE SHOULD REALLY GO FOR IT. I personally think that we can really challenge this year as we can put it up to any team if our players click on the day. Getting over Kildare is the next step and hopefully topping the group. Why not!
The bookies have 7 teams ahead of us to win the All Ireland, four (Mayo, Galway, Tyrone Armagh) which we have already beaten in the league or championship this year, as well as drawing with the favourites Dublin in their home pitch.
Fantastic to see about 8,000 Rossies in the Hyde last Sunday on a bank holiday weekend. Yes folks, Roscommon people also have kids to look after as well. (About 12% of the total population or equivalent to about 26% of the working population). Let's see another great turnout for the Kildare game.
There is something sturring. Time to make hay!! NOW.
A special word of thanks is due to the Club Rossie team who put in some effort with the recent draw. With sky high electricity, fuel and food prices over the last few months, plus increases in mortgage intetest rates, it was a very difficult time to run a fund raiser. Their huge efforts should also be acknowledged.
I am very proud to be a Rossie.

Glad to see I was correct to say the Dubs wouldn't be inconvenience with a late night match down the country. Can't have them trying to find their way home as they are unfamiliar with games outside Croke Park.
Thank God we're in the same group or we probably would be in Tullamore at midnight.

I'm not sure about the football - might not make it seen as it will be same weekend - but I'll be in Carlow for the hurling, and hopefully Thurles after that, and have been in Tullamore three times already this year :-)

If there is such a thing as karma then our hurlers of all ages are certainly making up for any perceived bias towards Dessie's lads.

So Sun the 18th for the Kildare game. Two weeks is often quoted as the ideal between games so it'll be interesting to see how the team looks. Hopefully everyone will be flying fit and potentially D Cregg back in the mix.

Yes your hurlers are great to watch. Watched them against Galway and was surprised by how good they are. A Leinster title or getting to an All Ireland final would be a great boost to the game in general.
