Replying To CiarraiMick:  "The Tyrone team in the noughties were just super.I was nt around in the 60s but they were fab.Its a facy one cant judge eras as one has to factor in opposition etc.
The Dubs under Gavin were super but the opposition were nt that strong.

Tyrone imo played against better teams.Kerry were strong as were Cork and Armagh .
The Dublin team that went on to great things were destroyed by both Kerry and Tyrone in 08 and 09.Now Im aware that it was all their players but in Dubs era Kerry were weak and Mayo should have beatrn them twice at least but decisions went against them. This was a Mayo team that lost to Kerry Kildare Galway and Roscommon.

No doubt the Dubs were the best team in their era.No arguement but one cant say best ever.In fact If I had to bet then the Tyrone team of the noughties would beat them hands down.
The Dubs were super but only in their own ets.Tyrone had a much better ceiling imo but came up against much tougher teams."
Get out of town Mick.

The Tyrone and Kerry teams didn't hear the great Dublin teams of 10"s or 20's in 08 or 09.

Was 4 years before Gavin was appointed Dublin manager.

Those Dublin teams retired those Tyrone and Jerry teams then continued to pulverise what came next.

Dublin were the only team of any era to beat every team of vote over nearly decade, doing something that had never been done in the sport before.

Mayo, Kerry, Donegal, Galway , Tyrone, Monaghan, Armagh, Meath, Cork, Derry - who ever multiple times, multiple versions former all Ireland wowed it not.

Tire comment is unnecessary, comparatively the vast majority if Kerry's 39 titles came playing 3/4 games All Ireland seasons. Kerry have regressed since the playing field had been even. That fragile situation or huge historical question marks leaves you on very shaky ground, citing the greatest achievement ever achieved in the game, One your on County failed to do on flater road.

Say Kerry is sick and this defeat will drive them on. Can't see Mayo winning back to back. I think we are going through a phase in Gaelic football where nobody will win back to back for a long time."
They will be sick alright.

As for driving them on… if the opportunity that presented itself before throw in, and again after 16mins didn't drive them on to do back2back then nothing will.

They were out fought and out thought and Mayo were much the better team on the day.

I read that JOC was saying yesterday that Mayo got ALL the marginal calls….

That made me laugh tbh. Things came full circle.

He might want to stay on, but……

It was a brilliant decade of football. Tyrone won 3 in that decade, could have been less , could have been more. Same with Kerry, could definitely have won more and Armagh definitely didn't win enough. This year's championship to me was like the 00s. Brilliant.

A bit revisionist there Mick. That was a super Mayo team in the Dubs 6 in a row era, the current Mayo team have potential but are not as strong now.
You reference Tyrone beating Dublin in 08 and 09, like that's 6 years b4 2015, first of 6.
For example the 2017 Dubs had, Scully, BB, MDMA, KevinMac, Diarmo, Davey Byrne, Paul Flynn Darren Daly, Cormac Costello "All on the Bench"
.

The strength and depth of that squad around 2016-19 was frightening alright. It's a very tricky thing to compare teams of different eras but the 6 in a row squad is for me the greatest team and squad to have played the game. I'm biased of course but we've seen yet again how hard it is to even do back-to-back titles yet those boys did that x 3. And in terms of opposition being weaker or not than the opposition Tyrone faced in the 00s, again all subjective. That Mayo team we faced in 2016 & 17 was immense, the Kerry squad around 2015 had Donaghy, Gooch, JO'D, Geaney, O'Sullivan, Galvin, Marc O'Sé, Sheehan, Tommy Walsh, Moran, Anthony Maher, O'Mahony, Young and I could go on but they were hardly a handy crowd to beat!

Sure was Saynothing.
The noughties were so strong though.Cork were a super team that time too but like Armagh underachieved because of Tyrone and Kerry.

Kerry flopped full stop, so it might be time to let the star step up as what more has JOC to offer. It will be a one hit wonder for Mayo but they won't care. By the time they stop celebrating and the backshlapping it could be another 75 years. England in the soccer next to crown the misery

Replying To sligo joe:  "I don't subscribe that any particular achievement separates a great team from a good team. A bit of luck can get in the way of successive titles and of course a really good/great team might be unlucky that their era coincides with the presence of an even better team.
However that is not to take away from the unique challenges involved (especially at amateur level) of defending a title. Those GAA teams that have backed it up, whether they are great or good, certainly deserve special kudos."
Great post Joe.
