So Nakba was committed by the Palestinians on the Israelis? Not the other way around. I'd get a refund on that history book if I was you.

I don't think Peter is a lefty. I think he is speaking from lived experience of being terrorised by an imperial power in his own land and seeing similarities of that in Gaza.

Those arab countries attacked the Israelis in the 1940s, not the other way around. Or at least thats how the story is told in any history book Ive read on the subject over the last 40 years. And who thinks the current Israeli government is justified in their recent actions in Gaza? I can't say I know anybody that thinks thats the case. And as regards empires it was a Jewish and Christian population that was living there long before Islam was even invented. So which Empire are you talking about there? The Romans? Saladins Empire? That area has been conquered by Empires since before Jesus was born. And by many Empires since, the Ottomans and then the Brits being the last 2. Anyway, interesting though the history of that area is, we have gone way off topic. So Ill ask you a simple brass tacks question- Do you think if we get rid of Allianz as a sponsor that it will make any difference at all to the lives of the people suffering in Gaza currently? I don't think mankind will ever learn to live in peace, all the wee protests here and boycotting this or that won't make a blind bit of difference, better we concentrate on things on our own green island and be thankful the killing and maiming has stopped in the 6 counties. People getting their knickers in a twist here over Greenland and the middle east are laughable imo. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3726 - 02/03/2026 14:45:24 2659520 Link 0 |

Of course I should blindly agree with the opinions of some 2000 year old poster who moved to Donegal sometime recently from the middle east? Thats obviously what you must be, seeing as you are able to tell me categorically what did and didnt happen there over all that time? I stated before that Im not sure, because, well, I wasn't there and am therefore unsure what happened there in the past. Im certainly not pro Israeli, but equally I dont think any pro Israelis ever stormed our Convention. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 18600 - 02/03/2026 14:55:18 2659522 Link 1 |

Was this the same history books that taught the English population that the people of Ireland were all savages threatening their beloved crown as they stole land and placed settlers all over? Remind you of a place in the middle east in the 1940s? You are kinda justifying the current regime by bringing up historical placement, just like they do and their media do to justify killing innocent civilians en mass. I'm sure you'd have an issue if someone landed at your own doorstep and told you his ancestors lived their so they are here to take it from or you and your family will face the consequences. No I didnt say that. Nakba was the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Muslim Palestinians in 1948 at the start of the invasion of the newly formed Israeli State by a huge combined Arab army from 5 countries. The Palestinian narrative is that these lads were forced out of their homes, while the Western version is that the leaders of the Arab armies told them to evacuate and told them that they would be able to return once the State of Israel was no more. The problem then being that the 5 country army lost the war they assumed they would win. As I said to you before, I wasn't there, I wasn't even born, so I dont know which version is the correct one, or even if either version is correct. But thats all the knowledge I have about the subject. What I therefore dont have is an opinion on who was right or wrong. And I won't ever have, as previously stated its none of my business. And I certainly dont see it as being any of our Associations business either. Our business is preserving and promoting the games we are responsible for. Two things Richard, Peter didn't storm into Croke Park, the other, he simply marched to Croke Park in support of something he believes is wrong. Not for the first time Cantwell tried to ambush Peter live on the Sunday Game and not for the first time he had an answer for her.

Two things for you: 1 - It wasn't The Sunday Game. That's not on at this time of year. Won't actually start until the Championship does. 2 - This is not the first time a Tyrone person has disregarded how the actual name of the programme is "Allianz League Sunday" Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 3372 - 02/03/2026 17:00:11 2659565 Link 2 |

I'd imagine they talked about the questions off air, Cantwell made it sound like she had her own concerns that she raised with management and she's aware of accusations of hypocrisy. I know people have issues with her presenting generally but I don't think she was unfair to Canavan on this at all and it gave him an opportunity to answer everything, and he did so brilliantly in my view, if ever there was a doubt about him being the GOAT it's laid to rest in my mind CCFabu (Donegal) - Posts: 300 - 02/03/2026 17:08:16 2659574 Link 0 |

jeez yeah thank god that all stopped in the 6 counties just completely on it's own, without anyone doing anything or "getting their knickers in a twist" at any stage, thankfully everything just stopped isn't that lucky, anyway let's carry on

Probably most people on Sunday Game have Allianz insurance or an Israeli made or company owned computer or component. Israeli financial companies have mortgages on quite a lot of places here including asylum accommodation. Which is why the protest is virtue signalling. Someone or some group picks one thing for someone else to do at their expense - soccer players to sacrifice their chance to play in international competitions is another - while doing absolutely nothing that will cost themselves. No issue with the protest and I have yet to hear convincing argument put forward by the GAA other than a financial one for keeping the sponsor. totalrecall (Leitrim) - Posts: 1186 - 02/03/2026 19:57:12 2659608 Link 0 |

Peter disregarded nothing. That was addressed on the broadcast on Saturday evening. Maybe watch it back?

I must just check Allianz for a quote, my insurance is due for renewal soon, if they are cheaper I'll be going with them, makes no difference to me, I know no more about them than any other insurer, I know they have sponsored our GAA for years though, that counts for something with me.
