Replying To gaa.88:  "I think the league competitions are great and every division has its own drama. So far in division one Donegal look the stand out team and Meath in division two. Looking forward to the Kerry v Dublin clash the weekend. Both teams are lucky they not sitting bottom of table at the moment."
The football league is great. Hurling has an established tiered championship. The football league is the football version, with a day out in Croke Park for the top two. Understandable that lower league counties were eager to tie the football league more to championship qualification.

Div 3:
Westmeath v Fermanagh. Westmeath will be looking to bounce back from the Down defeat to keep their promotion push on track.
Sligo v Limerick. Limerick had an important win over Wexford. A win this weekend will give them some optimism of challenging Westmeath.
Wexford v Down. Defeat for Wexford away to Limerick after a good start. Down fresh off getting past Westmeath will be looking to keep their momentum going to secure promotion.
Clare v Laois. Clare beat Fermanagh but look likely to be heading for the Tailteann Cup this year unless they pull off a shock in Munster. Clare's All Ireland group stage record was 9 losses from 9.

Div 4:
Carlow v Waterford. It'll be a shock if Carlow don't maintain their 100% record.
Wicklow v London...
Leitrim v Antrim...
Longford v Tipperary...
... Wicklow, Leitrim and Longford seem to be in a 3 way battle for the second promotion spot. All will need to win this weekend as the league reaches the halfway point.
