Good news this morning Wexford weekly reporting Jippo has rejoined the squad. Fingers crossed he can stay injury free would be a massive boost for us to have him on the edge of the square

Replying To Viking66:  "Why didnt DCU make a pitch to Cian Byrne when he went to Mary I? Or Cillian Byrne when he went to UCD? Or Simon Roche? Cian Kenny is Kilkennys best hurler under 25 why did DCU let him go to hurl Ryan Cup with TUD? Richie Lawlor was on that TUD team that won the Ryan Cup final last week too, he left DCU to go there. He was starting for DCU in Fitzgibbon when they beat Mary I in 2023.
You are right, Im not sure I understand. Up or down there are plenty of good hurlers who are better than some of the lads on DCUs team who chose to go hurl Ryan Cup. I don't understand how this could be if what you have said about scholarships, and all the best young players wanting to hurl for the top colleges, is correct."
Could be that the courses or the specifics within a course is in the college they attended?

Really? Virtually more than half a new team. Id be surprised if they won more than 1 game, 2 max

Yep great news. Hopefully he can stay injury free. Fair play to him for coming back.

Will probably take him a while to get match fit.

For sure. Thats what I was arguing last week. Top hurlers don't just choose top hurling colleges as alleged by other posters.

Fantastic news, use him sparingly until we really need him. Hopefully a few others will follow him back to the panel, all hands on deck.

Liam must surely have unfinished business with Wexford, with the injuries he's had theres no way he feels fulfilled with his career

If everyone is fully fit, which was the prerequisite for that prediction, Id probably go-
Fanning
Donohue Ryan Conor Foley
Patsy Reck Lawlor
Hearne Wickham
Jacko Chin Redmond
Kevin Foley Roche Cian Byrne

And on the bench we will have lads who might have actually had a reasonable bit of Senior experience by that stage, lads who can score if they are forwards, work hard with and without the ball, and can actually hurl-
Tucker, James Byrne, Niall Murphy, David Codd, Rory Higgins, Ross Banville, Darren Codd, Philip Dempsey, Darragh Carley.
Or maybe some of these younger/newer lads might step up in the meantime-
Cillian Byrne, Sean Rowley, Dara Kehoe, Eoin Whelan, Ciaran O'Regan, CBD?, Diarmuid O' Leary, Eoin O'Leary, David Clarke.
Cian Byrne or Derry Mahon sub keeper.
If we get the best version of Jacko that would probably be as strong a starting team as we have had out in the last couple of years if they all stay fully fit.
And the cherry on top would be if Rory O'Connor came back.......

How do you know they didn't make a pitch to them Viking? How do you know they hadn't identified better hurlers for scholarships?
Richie Lawlor was in DCU because he qualified as a teacher. You would need to ask him that question.
Simon Roche is on a scholarship in UCD AFAIK and last I heard DCU didn't offer Ag Science.
Its not all about the top hurlers wanting to hurl Fitzgibbon but they need to get the points as well AND the colleges need to offer the course they want. I never said anything about it being all about scholarships, my point is and still is the colleges try to get the top hurlers they have access to to go to their college and do everything they can to get them in the door. If you don't think that is true then tell me how life in cuckoo land is.
But you can confirm all these with the players themselves. I don't know them myself.
I don't comment on Dublin underage because I'm too detached from it at this point AND no matter what I don't see us breaking the glass ceiling because football is the only show in town. I can't even keep up with the club scene except my own club and I get to 1-2 games a year there. As for putting my views on Dublin GAA page, well I could set up a WhatsApp group with Fionn and Barney.
Re refereeing decisions, come off it you know I was using it emphasise a point about the fine margins. I have long held you have 60-70 minutes to win every game. I don't know what decision you are on about 2-3 years ago costing you a Leinster Final but as with every other post its ifs, buts, maybes when the reality is somebody else went home with the cup on their bus.
Schools "competing" in competitions is one thing, COMPETING is another thing altogether.
Anyway I hope I've covered everything. I'll leave ye to it for a while now I think, its best to occupy an echo chamber where all is rosy and there is nothing to worry about wha. Time will tell how true that is.
Best of luck Saturday. Over and out.

Yeah but there doesn't seem to be an A1 for either Senior or Second Year, find it weird that there's one for Junior

These are all big ifs and buts, but I think that 15 could be very competitive

"How do you know they didn't make a pitch to them Viking? How do you know they hadn't identified better hurlers for scholarships?"

You said in a previous post that our underage set up was so bad that no top colleges would be making pitches at our hurlers?

"Re refereeing decisions, come off it you know I was using it emphasise a point about the fine margins"

I do know that, but you still didnt answer the question as to why you only use them to emphasise points about fine margins when we are in trouble, when you don't use them the same way when those fine margins involve us missing out on Finals. And as regards ifs, buts and maybes, wasn't it someone else who was getting on their bus heading to Joe Mcdonagh games the following year to 2023, while Liam Gordon was awarding Kilkenny a penalty for a foul that was actually yards outside the large rectangle.

"Schools "competing" in competitions is one thing, COMPETING is another thing altogether."

Absolutely. Good Counsels 2022 Senior A winning team actually went unbeaten in Leinster all the way up from 1st year. And if thats not recent enough for you, this year Counsel reached the Junior A final, and both Counsel and St Mary's Enniscorthy beat St Kierans at Junior A, knocking them out in the process. Counsel also beat Kilkenny CBS at Senior this school year. And Peters 2nd years are better than Counsels 2nd years this year, not sure how Enniscorthy are getting on this year in 2nd year A. So while they didnt win any trophies, they most certainly were COMPETING, not just competing.

This last bit isnt point scoring now Exiled, it is a serious point. As you know Im not from Wexford. I went to my 1st ever game of hurling in Belfast. Ive been to underage and adult games in all 4 provinces, in around 20 counties.
Hurling needs a strong Dublin, its not just Leinster hurling that needs a strong Dublin. Dublin is our capital city, its the centre, the largest population concentration.
Since you last appeared in a Leinster minor final, Kilkenny have appeared in 6, Galway 3, Wexford 2, Offaly 2 and Laois 1. Kilkenny won 3, Galway, Wexford and Offaly won 1 each.
Last year at u14, u15 and u16 you didnt reach any of the top knockout cups. Your minors even lost to ours, and both of us agree we had a poorly set up minor team last year.
You had no schools even participating in Junior A or 2nd year A. I get that Football is king in Dublin but surely at schools level all the top players would be playing both?
Obviously there would be plenty of lads around Wexford that would think the above is good news, but Im not one of them.

Anyway safe trip Saturday and maybe see up there, although its unlikely as no doubt the crowd will be totally lost up there! Looking forward to a great game, hopefully!!!

Absolutely. Come championship Id be happy to win any or all 5 of the games by just a point!
The League game in the Park will be very interesting. Not sure what to expect tbh.

Could be a lot of shadow boxing going on that day

Although don't think they'll rotate too much and they won't be changing their style either, they might want to lay down a marker for April

Id like to see us put down a marker in that game put doubts in there before we play them in April
