Every time a match is played in Thurles people complain and a tiny few Wexford people go to the effort of going. Excuses, excuses, excuses. They will complain about Saturday week at 5pm in Croke Park. "Too early, too late, wrong place, too much else on, and so on". Yet they expect a young player to give up his social life and drive to Wexford from college or work 3-4 times a week from October when they themselves won't even drive to Dublin to a match one evening? And then if Wexford get to a Leinster Final every tom dick and harry in the county will go "we are great supporters" and Liam Griffin will be on the radio talking about pikes and fighting tradition. This young team needs big support now more than ever, Saturday week is a big big game for this team. If Wexford people want players to commit they need to show them "we are 100% behind you". A big cheer for a goal would be a huge boost for this team because Dublin will have a big support and Wexford need to match it and be there for the team. A hurler in Munster is treated like a rock star, in Wexford they are treated like an after thought. This is part of the reason why players won't commit. Saturday week is likely going to be the difference between promotion to 1A and 3 of the top teams in the country coming to Wexford Park next year or an away trip to Antrim and a home game v Down. Make up your mind which you want and think what you can do to help."</div>Yes, this young Wexford team need the support but I don't believe they will get it. The old "5pm on a Saturday in Croke Park" line I've already heard this week twice in work. But what about the player driving back to Dublin at 10pm on a Tuesday night after sweating the balls off himself running around the COE. Is the journey for you harder than for him? You do it once, he does it 2-3-4 times a week. It can't be easy for players to commit so much time and the supporters have turned their back. I'm not saying I am innocent here as I don't do league matches but I do go to a lot of their championship matches to bring my children AND if there is a lot at stake I will try to get to them. I will do my bit by bringing a car full of them on Saturday week. Suits with visiting family and as always I won't begrudge you a victory if you get it, but I think we are a bit further down the road so I will be disappointed if we don't get the win. @Viking I meant to say, the dual players I was on about were Dublin dual players. We can't get them to commit to hurling because it just lacks the hype of the football. This was my point though, Wexford County Board need to make the game cool again. Social Media is the number 1 way to get to young people. Fun videos, crossbar challenges, player profiles, an inter county hurlers week, and so on. The game is crying out for publicity in Leinster and its just not there and look at the league games, we're all a mile off Munster. We need to give the game a massive push in the province as a whole, not just Wexford."
